  1. I'd ignore the commentary; I made this for a mate. When we moved here four years ago much of what you see was under laurel canopy; I removed it in the winter of 2023 so the ground has had light now for the second spring. The recovery of the wood anemones and bluebells is most heartening and a tribute to Gaia! VID-20250329-WA0005.mp4
  2. That's not hawthorn; the wood hasn't turned that beautiful golden brown colour. The bark pattern in the pics is too coarse; hawthorn's pattern is more linear and less in small square plates than that of pear.
  3. Got pulled into a Police/VOSA/East Sussex County Council operation a couple of months ago in a layby on the A22. Included was a lady from ESCC in hi viz vest with clipboard; uh-oh! 'Did you know that by bringing hedge clippings and rakings from Surrey (where most of my work is) to Sussex you're importing waste?' 'Nothing I produce is waste; it's all a resource. Those clippings and rakings I put in piles in my small woodland to create habitat'. 'Well I'll have to report it to the EA'. 'Of course you will'. I went on my way, she ticked her box. Everybody happy 😁
  4. Across the whole of southern France Mick? This is today just outside Chamonix (not a fair comparison I know!)

  6. The world needs more Toms 👍
  7. Walnuts don't take kindly to hard pruning - they bleed then die back - so if you do decide to prune go for many small cuts rather than a few large ones I agree with Mick on leaving the cavity. If you're determined not to have it water filled drill a drainage hole: I did this years ago with a Tulip in my own garden and the union didn't fail for another 15 years! (But that was because I didn't manage the regrowth from a low level pollard just above the union)
  8. Well I'm not an expert on such things but I wouldn't even consider heave/shrinkage in that location. Personally I'd say you're over thinking things but as said I'm not an expert in such matters If you do take it down try to preserve good lengths of the stem intact; it's a stunning timber that a professional woodturner would appreciate
  9. Yes, the plum genus is full of thorns
  10. I find SC gives very little heat. My missus actually asked me once 'are you burning some of that SC you have? There's no heat coming from the burner'. Standard fare for us to burn is 100% softwood; hardwood (mostly) = money as firewood.
  11. The last three years have been very poor. It's not just the rain, it's mainly the lack of wind. We just don't seem to have breezy days any more; most days are as good as still with the rare windy one. I'm speaking for processed firewood, not specifically cord
  12. Odd. Had my Navara + trailer recovered a few months ago. Recovery arranged through insurance (Hastings Direct)

Is that a front door in the pic or a back door? 😱
  16. Made me laugh 🤣 Happy New non-Insertion Year!
  17. I note that no-one's putting their hands up 🤮 to having things inserted up the front end. Been there a couple of times and would have taken the rearwards option at the drop of a hat or latex glove. Most unpleasant despite the numbing cream the nurse gently applied first 😨. Made me feel sick. So come on - who's enjoyed that one?
  18. Oh for goodness sake - there's just no pleasing some people Just book yourself onto a wrapper opening course and live crumb free
  19. You haven't had the course. You're supposed to pull the seam open, not rip off a corner. Du-uh! 🤣
  20. So it's an anti-litter move. If it works that's a good thing despite it being EU driven 👍 Thanks those who have enlightened me
  21. Why do they stay attached? 1) So that the recyclers only have one piece of plastic to deal with? I don't believe that or 2) So that we can crush the bottle, tighten the cap and the bottle stays crushed Hello-o - what does that hydraulic press thing in the back of the dustcart do?!
  22. That's why she's 'ex'
  23. Leave my ass out of it; it's starting to feel vulnerable
  24. Yeah Happy Birthday Doug Jon (today: tomorrow I'll be someone else 🤭)
  25. No they haven't
