  1. My mate went to pick up his nice new shiny ipohone today. Qued up for twenty minutes then got told they sold out! lol. Should do what i do, stick with the old sony ericcson, does what its meant to and wont ruin your day if found to have cracked screen due to log carrying.
  2. 3 way karabiners are used for being safer then the non locking ones. So in a situation where 1 accident has already happened you`d think the safest 3 way karabiner would be the only way IMO.
  3. Sorry not GAME i meant PROFESSION ! Someone will have my head on a pole for saying that!!!!!!!
  4. I dont mind abit of quoting. Its a good feeling when you have a real productive day pricing up and pulling in some work you look forward to. Only thing i dont like is turning up to a real nasty job, lots of ivy and crazy ideas of what soemone wants you to do to a tree. But they are generally outweighed by the better so it just part of the game really.
  5. Pleased for you chris, its a buzz when the phone starts ringing! Never never give a price over the phone. I refuse no matter what. Just explain that there are far too many variables to be accurate and one persons idea of a "big" tree can be alot diffrent to anothers and that quotes are free. good times:thumbup1:
  6. I cant belive that was ok`d by a tree officer? Cant get my head around it, surely thats his job gone?!!
  7. Ha ! lol. that is quality! does he know!!!
  8. 30 years climbing!!! That deserves some respect!!
  9. Just phone every tree firm in your area and ask for any work they have wether its a single day or more, mention that you can be flexible too so short notice shouldnt be a problem., someone will give you a call. All it takes is someones worker to pull a sickie at the last minute and hopefully the person they phone is you. Then you get in there prove yourself and youve sown your seed.
  10. my first truck was a flare side 1 ton pick up and i had to shovel the chippings out the back as it was a non tipper. At the back the board was shorter then me and shovelling half sort of bent down is no fun on your back atall i no were your coming from with that!! My theory on the work situation is. . If you sat down with a phone and the yellow pages and phoned it cover to cover asking for any work that was going even if it was one day i struggle to belive you d get to the other end without a single day in the bag!! Thats what id do if i had to.
  11. I have a transit and cant really fault it. Mine has a cage on the back (boarded up) and barn doors on the back and it holds loads. drives well with the weight aswell. Plenty of room in the cab too wich is ideal if your going to be taking the third person along. Cant go wrong with it IMO. Only thing i suppose wouldnt go amiss is abit more power as mines only 90 hp but i dont mind saving abit of diesel, and there are more powerfull ones if that was a problem. I no someone who has a dyna and i like it but theres a few down sides. Firstly the cab is tiny even for two people its cramped. Secondly you cant get a great deal of brush on the back, it holds nowhere near as much as a transit would. Oh and its thirsty aswell. Good points, looks great, sounds great and has plenty of power. Hope that helps in some way.
  12. They must have been similarish to the turkey sheds. The one thing you never forget is the smell!!
  13. Yeah you just have to do whatever you can do earn abit of cash. I`ve found that arb has a few diffrent things to offer.Climbing, ground work, basic labouring and abit of log cutting and splitting. I have and will do any of those to keep busy and I never let ego get in the way of anything. The key thing i think is to get your foot in the door way with as many people as you can. You only need to have 3 people who each give you abit of work to start getting fairly busy. Cant you get away with just doung the cs 38 which if im right you can climb on as long as your supervised? (Someone please correct me if im wrong)
  14. Ok had to think about this but here goes . . . . . . . . . . . . Turkey plucking!!!! Feel safe to post your jobs up now!!
  15. Now you see it . . . . . . Im sure you or someone is going to put that to good use!!
  16. If that was me id put 20 quid in my back pocket next. If everything went well and the money doubled id try it again. . . . With a fifty pound note. . . Then £100 Then £1000. and repeat. Then ib buy another pair of ballistics!! Theres entrepenurism for ya!! Or im taking this far too seriously!!
  17. Thats one way to get rid of the log wood! Nice to minus the crazy amount of sawdust associated with logging that beauty up!!
  18. Im finishing nice and early tomoro about 11ish. Im thinking about buying and england shirt but its alot of money for something ill only wear once!!. Nah I`ve got faith in the old boys but this one matters so they`ve got to get it sorted!! C`MON ENGLAND COME ON ENGLAND ROOOOOOOOOONEEEEEEEEEY!!!
  19. Id do anything to avoid becoming vat registered. I no a few people that seem to get by fine with it but if the bulk of your work is private then surely you`ll lose alot to people who arent vat registered and cheaper? that`s my thoughts.
  20. I would have shaved a little but more of the sides looking at the first 2 pics but looks fine in the third. Are those stubs cut to growing points? I hate reducing a previus reduction. Lots of cuts to make, normally pretty rubbish anchor point not my favourite way to work on a tree atal.
  21. Frustrating when that happens. I no a good way to get rid of, start taking pictures of them i guarantee they`ll do a runner!!
  22. Its a good job the lady didant catch you round there with your box of matches ten minutes before or theres no way you would have got the job :-)
  23. I have the none strechy tool strop and have carabiner on either end of it. one clips to your harness the other on the metal bit on saw. Then when you want the saw close just lift it up and clip the carabiners together. Job done. Doing this not only looks after your saw but can make you feel more steady and confident wen branch walking as the saw isnt swinging round like a pendulum underneath you making you feel off balance.
  24. As a few people have said sit down with a pen and paper and write all your costs, then include putting aside money for maintenance and future maintenance, bars chains new clutch etc. Then add what you want to earn each day and you have your day rate. Remeber theres tax to think about on top of that. Then think of all the unpaid work such as quoting, sending emails, filling in application forms, going and collecting the money then hit the harsh realisation that your financially better of climbing for someone else!!!!
