  3. I might be able to give you abit of work. Wont be a huge amount but the odd day here and there. If thats something your interested in PM me your details. cheers
  4. Just wonderd how to do it? Run a full tank of petrol through it today and it had only used a drop of oil. Just wonderd what the best way was to clean it? Cheers
  5. That is defintitely it. Cheers again
  6. That sounds like it fits the bill. Especially as there are a few dead trees near them that are not affected and from that whatever it is lives of feeding live sap. Im just trying to find some photos so i can confirm it for sure. Thanks for posting that up.
  7. I think with the whole using the saw when close to others situation that regardless of saw size and power you shouldnt be using a saw near anyone! Should be far enough away from someone to be able to cut a branch up using whatever saw you lke wether its a 12 or 16 inch bar or even more.
  8. Looking at a sycamore tree the other day and noticed at the base of the trunk and then further up lots of littl`ish white dots and some with little brown dots on them. Just curious as to what this could be. My gut feeling tells me its some tiny insects of some sort. can anyone give me abit more info on this? Dont have any pics of it im afraid. Cheers
  9. Art positioner with swivel eye is unbeatable on a normal rope side strop IMO.
  10. Just an update on this, started my saw the following day after a thorough cleaning and all seems ok! ..... I remain slightly skeptical but its been fine for a few tanks now. Thought it would be worth mentioning that someone i spoke to said due to the heat air can get forcd into the carburettor making the mix abit funny. Needs a abit of a working to blast it through back to normal. So if anyone has a similar problem it might be worth percerviering for a while just to make sure it isnt that. May save you a few quid for an unneccasary repair.
  11. Bit beyond me that. Unfortunately ill have to pay the saw shop to do it if i cant diagnose an easier problem
  12. Thanks for both your input. To be honest i didant haved the time to give it a proper checking other. I just whopped the silky out and got on with some exercise Will check it out tomorow. I`ll start with the basics then work my way back to the more expensive. I will check the carb out of interest. Cant i phone the local chainsaw shop about it does it have to be stihl technical? Yeah i like stihls atitude on that. " Yep theres a few problems with the old carbaretta but instead of replacing it with a decent one will just use it anyway and hope noone notices!!
  13. Evening! My climbing saws playing up at the moment. Only started today. Wont rev up properly, start it as normal then every time i pull the trigger it goes bur bur bur then cuts out. If persistant i can eventually get it to full revs, make the cut wwhich is ok then let the revs drop pull the trigger again and bur bur. You get the idea. Really hope its not a carb problem, i know of a few saws that have done this. Its just coming up to two years old. Anybody have some info on this? Cheers
  14. I think whoever was in charge of that advertising campaign was thinking outside the box a little. . . Did tiggle the dark side of my sense of humour a tad though . . . .
  15. M&S should stick to retail, when it comes to tree surgery they just havent got the finesse!!
  16. Well I turned up to the customer ready to blow his head off with my lengthy in depth knowledge and understanding of acute oak die back. Only to learn it got hit by a hurricane ten years ago! lol. Oak tree is a whopper tho. About 5 feet across at the base then twin stems at about 8 feet. The knuckle underneath the stems is a foot or so wider then the base. Tree is roughly 80 feet tall possibly more. Tree is in a bad way. In the center most stems are completely dead and falling to pieces. Wood at about 2 feet diameter has turned a lighter shade of brown and has lots of holes and dead branches aorund it. A few large stems at the bottom look healthy enough but man wants it removed. Lots and lots of decent wood to come away from this one. Yeah that important knowledgeable feeling is quite good so ive been told!! :-)
  17. Best to settle it with an actual reading every month. If not they make you believe everything is well on dd then sting you for a massive nasty £700 bill in january!!
  18. At first i thought u was insulting my ERUDITE complex well written diagnosis of a poor oak tree not having a blooming summer. But found your attachment very helpfull. Thanks for the info
  19. Art positioner with swivel is unbeatable on a lanyard IMO. Much more manouverable then a rope grab i used to have.
  20. Any more info on that charlie?
  21. No unfortunately no pics yet. It was just a brief description that i got " tree is dying from the top" and thats it. Theres a good chance i can piece it together once i go and see the tree but just wonderd if there was anything disease related that i didant no about. What is water table issue?
  22. evening arbtalkers! Have a query about an oak tree that is dying from the top. Just after a bit of information really, causes etc. Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers
  23. You want a north face waterproof shell mate. They`re the best. Lightweight waterproof and windproof. should pick one up for 50 odd quid if you look around. Just wear a hi-vis with it. Hope that helps
  24. Cutt it down then count the rings!!!
  25. Should have plenty of life left in it only being a 2000 model. weird that its ok bore cutting and not cross cutting. Does it start ok?? I think theres a possibility that the bar heating to much could cause it not to cross cut very well. If the chains getting tight then as soon as you apply the saw to wood it its going to be working against alot, then if it isnt that sharp even more stress for it. Its fairly unlikely that thats the problem but it could be . . . When you say let u down do u mean not wowrking atall now?
