  1. I would have shaved a little but more of the sides looking at the first 2 pics but looks fine in the third. Are those stubs cut to growing points? I hate reducing a previus reduction. Lots of cuts to make, normally pretty rubbish anchor point not my favourite way to work on a tree atal.
  2. Frustrating when that happens. I no a good way to get rid of, start taking pictures of them i guarantee they`ll do a runner!!
  3. Its a good job the lady didant catch you round there with your box of matches ten minutes before or theres no way you would have got the job :-)
  4. I have the none strechy tool strop and have carabiner on either end of it. one clips to your harness the other on the metal bit on saw. Then when you want the saw close just lift it up and clip the carabiners together. Job done. Doing this not only looks after your saw but can make you feel more steady and confident wen branch walking as the saw isnt swinging round like a pendulum underneath you making you feel off balance.
  5. As a few people have said sit down with a pen and paper and write all your costs, then include putting aside money for maintenance and future maintenance, bars chains new clutch etc. Then add what you want to earn each day and you have your day rate. Remeber theres tax to think about on top of that. Then think of all the unpaid work such as quoting, sending emails, filling in application forms, going and collecting the money then hit the harsh realisation that your financially better of climbing for someone else!!!!
  6. Evening all, Im sure everyones had this problem before, my 200t wont swith of. I have to choke it all the time which is a pain and im sure my pull cord is also getting bored of it Is there a specific part that breaks or could it be a number of things. If its possible im trying to order the part and fix it myself, havent got a backup saw so trying to avoid having to take it to a shop. Cheers
  7. I no what u mean. I like huskys. Just dont think they are as reliable as stihls and for the money the bigger saws cost i want it to last me till im seventy and theres no trees left! Thats just my experiences though and im sure other peoples are diffrent. How do you rate the reliablitly of the husky?
  8. What made you switch?
  9. im liking the idea of the 460, and husky with 28 inch bar and now another saw has cropped up! lol. its like a nice torture! Heard quite good things about makita. . would be difficult to choose other something thats orange though. but how cheap is cheap?!
  10. I need to get myself a nice new shiny chainsaw with a 25 inch guide bar. First thoughts was stihl 441. Have used them before great saws and from my experiences as reliable as something reliable. However when conducting my research on price i found the stihl at £650, then saw the husky 390 xp for £671!! Seems like alot of saw for the extra 20 odd quid!! So finding the husky at that price has made me abit indecisive. TBH its reliability that im after which kind of tells me stihl but i love the torque you get from a good old husky. . Just wondered what peoples opinions and experiences are with both saws!
  11. Yeah that`s what it is errr obviously!!
  12. I think its a nice way for someone to earn a few quid if there chipper has been well looked after and used properly for an hour or so of chipping. But thats IF it has been looked after and thats a HUGE risk when you compare 100 quid to the cost of buying a new chipper or the hassle of getting someone to pay repair costs.
  13. its 90 bhp, 02 and low ratio gears. i dont drive mine past 55 as anything above that and it sounds uncomfortable. My aim would be to only tow the chipper when empty/ish even if it means finishing later. I no it wont be possible all the time thats what ill try to do.
  14. Thanks for that reply its shed a diffrent light on things. To get my truck from 90 to 120 bhp will it be a case of a single remap or abit more involving?
  15. Im getting abit confused about this opertators license and tacho business. Peter if driving a transit 3.5 tonne in what case do you need an operators license and/or tachograph?
  16. Fair enough! If the wills there then you`ll make it work whatever your circumstances
  17. That chipper is much to small and I want the chippings in th back of the truck. I can see where it would be usefull but its not what i need. So you think that somebody who approches a van and chipper combination would definitly approach somebody loading the boot of their astra aswell? Im not sure I agree. "but you must have to do a lot of snedding or extra cutting in the tree or have pices sitting on the deck until you get down if your groundie hasnt got a saw ticket" Not atal. I cut and hold for a good percentage of my climbing. Anything that does need to be cut up can be done by the groundie with a silky saw or put to one side until i come down. If its a big job I bring in somebody who is qualified to use a saw but for 90% of my work I only need a labourer and get on fine. By your comments you would think that the chipper is an absolute monster. Well its not. Its just abit heavier then whats ideal.
  18. So what are you saying. That if you drive a vehicle 3.5 tonne, that whenever you tow anything it must be recarded by tachograph if not you should be keeping records of hours etc yourself?
  19. Thats exactly my understanding.
  20. Is that the tw 150 (750 kg)? How much did you pay for the work out of interest?
  21. Ive done abit of work with a trailer cutting it down etc. It gets the job done im just not mad on the look. I`d rather pay to have a chipper with me as IMO your more likely to get approached for a quote. Also I dont have anyone working for me that uses a saw so climbing and minsing the trailer is v. time consuming. It is a way though and cheaper then chipper hire!
  22. I dont understand?
  23. Your right its not a good idea its just a matter of options at the moment for me. Having a 2 tonne chipper restricts everything. Im sure gross GTW is 5000 kgs. So if im right that allows me roughly 800 kg of weight tools and everything. Not great atall. Its sometimes going to be the case of that or no chipper though thats the problem
  24. Thats usefull, thanks for that SWB. Im not planning on replacing my truck for a while yet. It only has 49000 miles on it. Im only thinking of a towing it for a few months. Suppose its just a matter of opinion really. Going on the basis that if it would be that bad to tow it you wouldnt be allowed to I think a few months isnt going to cause major problems. Definitly not ideal though. Cheers for your input
  25. To be honest around these parts is mostly hills etc. I no thats its not ideal really, especially as transits arent the best for towing anyway. Its just a matter of options though as I dont own a chipper at the momoent im hiring and this one is always available whereas the smaller ones are out working alot and Its difficult to plan jobs on that basis. Am saving up to buy my own just dont want to knacker my transit towing the big one in the in between time
