  1. any one using a cone type PTO splitter, ie HYCRACK ? what they like to use, any problems with them?. thinking of going this way as there so simple, straight off the PTO, no hydraulics, no valves etc, comments please.
  2. Blown seals on the pump, fuel leak on tank, re coil start faulty, spool valve seals, spool valve assemble was faulty, ram seals were the latest and v poor chrome on the ram. It works ok now but it's going to be on on going thing, as each thing fails im going to replace with a pukka part. i have fixed this myself as titan pro are crap on sorting problems out, they just dont want to know when theres a problem . you get what ya pay for i guess
  3. I do what the punter wants, if there is no obvious reason to fell i will suggest a differant approach, a reduction or a thin/crown lift if its a light issue but at the end of the day if the cheque book is open and ready to go i aint really bothered, just warm the saw up and get it felled, food on my table not someone else. Always say no to toppin though, advise on a proper reduction but if they dont want that and its cheap top job i will walk. Priced a big Syc a few weeks back, been topped at about 25ft 5 years ago, now customer is miffed thats it's grown so fast and is blocking all the light out again! She wants me to re top it, i have explained why it grows so fast and the problem with topped trees and advised her to have it out and re plant with a better sizes tree but as ever it will come down to money!
  4. She's a looker all right Mick..........your a lucky man:scared1:
  5. does the wifey know you wear those frocks Mick or is it a "moden marrige"
  6. Oh so you are Mick, yep thats you, the fat one with the tash:001_tongue:
  7. well if your going to work in a male dominated industry you need to expext male banter.........It,s called having a bit of fun, you should try it sometime!
  8. bring it on i say, the more women we get in tight stihl hiflex trousers the better:001_tongue: make a good job even better! Oh and welcome Steph.
  9. Not sure really, am going to keep the titan pro i have now as its good for taking to customers houses and splitting on site, think im gonna get a pto cone type one for the back of the tractor, this way i get away from hydraulics and there dead simple (bit like me really)
  10. carl foggarty and troy bayliss (world superbikles) dave Jefferies and joey dunlop (IOM TT) Oh and the legeng himself......Fred Dibnah.......
  11. moral of the storey...................Get ya mum trained in first aid and be a ticketed groundie to do rescue then ya sorted!
  12. Im with Huck and Dean on this, yes i agree that employees should be protected agains being made to take silly risks but my life is in my hands and I am happy with that, i would rather me get hurt than some one working for me. An element of risk/danger keeps you sharp and thinking, once you stop thinking because your all snug in your cotton wool suit it's too late and thats when accidents happen, look at fred dibnah up 300ft chimneys, no harness walking along boards etc, no man at the bottom with one foot on the ladder to fly up 300ft to do a super rescue! im not saying this is right or i would do it but thats life A few years back i was talking to a HSE man and asked him what he thought, even agreed we live in a stupid world, he said all air bags should be banned and a large metal spike fitted to the stearing wheel instead, this would make people drive with more care, silly but true.
  13. There a good reliable machine John, a guy not far from me has a 625 and wont get rid of it, swears by it infact, just budget for a full service and mybe the odd bearing and you will be fine. At the end of the day if you win it and its knackered when you go pick it up or it aint as described just walk away....oh yes as Nige said, no bottom bar so that needs sortin, the later ones 625 had em as standard i think. I would look at 400quid to sort the bottom bar from what i have heard from dealers on other machines.
  14. Whats the big deal? more danger after a night on the lash
  15. I have a 26t version, there ok and do the job well but remember most are chineese machines and build quality can be iffy, mine was half the price of a german or UK machine but i wont buy another, next time it's the real mccoy as i can't be bothere fixing em all the time. The other thing is spares, half the time there waiting for deliverys and it gets really frustrating or you ring up and there "out of the office" IMO go for something pukka and save the hassle

    Which saw?

As it's not your main job and money is an issue go have a look at Makita(dolmar) and Jonsered (husky) there both good powerfull saws and a lot cheaper than the main two but will also last you years. Also think about the re sale value, if you buy something with a good badge you will sell it on when you have finished with it and get some money back, whith the cheap unbranded stuff its a bin job.

    Which saw?

Agree with both comments, big joe is right though.......MS280 is a good all rounder or go for a 341 if you want something with a bit more go.
  18. now doing 10yrs for impersonating a tree surgeon.
  19. One day Dean........one day:001_smile:
  20. I would go with the right rev penfold.........i know bugger all about it but he seems to know his religious stuff..........well done brother:laugh1:
  21. thats all well and good Jonny, but what about the rest of you...
  22. Don't be put off buying second hand stumpy's there like out else it's how there used and looked after, there not all knackered. If buying private budget in for a service, belt change and the odd bearing and you will be ok. Have a word with woodpicker about the preds there seems to be some issues with clutches on them!
  23. Jeeees Dave, you lot need to sharpen ya saws or stop using an Axe in the tree, some of those cuts are real rough, looks like lofty's ripped em off with his landie:001_tongue: Amasing fire damage, just shows what sort of punishment trees can take!
  24. Waking up to a healthy happy family and cuddles off my 5 year old girl does it for me. everything else is just a bonus.
