  1. You (and many others) are too young to remember the horrors of three strand and the three knot system, be grateful for the improvements
  2. That's just you putting words in my mouth and its you that's decided it needs improvement I think its just fine as is, given the track record I say now its OK, leave it alone.
  3. Mk 1 was a disaster and Mk 2 had its problems, leave well alone IMO
  4. This thread, post 2 You could also make your own easy enough
  5. I don't understand this statement. Most of us don't rely on a "nice vice" for sharpening, indeed the time for sharpening is when the saw has lost its edge and that's seldom near a nice vice, the best available is often a log vice of something improvised both of which are perfectly adequate. If you have to take the saw home for sharpening the trick to attaching to the kitchen worktop is to use wing nuts and store the vice in the cutlery draw when not in use:laugh1:
  6. Another vote for the declaration branded ones, can't fault the price or quality, took 3 years for mine to wear at the neck and when then they are still serviceable

  8. Try google pics for that
  9. Assuming it has a setting for constant flow you will need to fit a quick release coupling to that and a similar one to some place the oil can get back into the gearbox That way you can plug any old splitter in and off you go It wont have a huge amount of flow but it hasn't got a huge amount of power so that's OK
  10. That's a nice building

  12. I think you have got the cart before the horse here, find a freelancer to help you, find the work and off you go, that way you call the shots.
  13. You are getting soft, about this tine last year you and I were doing battle with big trees in a 6+
  14. That sir, is a chunk of utilitarian beauty. The one that dies with the most toys wins and you are leading the game.

  16. Yup, never trust the media
  17. The only time(s) I have been hassled by the man, they have rattled their sabre about causing nuisance which comes down to smoke, the council bod needs a complaint and evidence. Plod can get on your case if you smoke the road out causing visibility issues. The secret to burning is simply air, a couple of leaf blowers will keep a fire hot and productive, air burners are a good option
  18. There was a sandwich pto gearbox that took its drive directly behind the flywheel, Carmichael, from memory, (the fire engine people) were the players . Direct pto shaft drive and full engine power
  19. In the UK vehicle weights are expressed in MAM (maximum authorised mass), this was once called gross vehicle weight This is for civvy trucks, UK military rates vehicles by payload
  20. No it isn't, an item can be submitted for inspection as often as the owner choses, the inspection is a service they are paying for, they can submit an item as often as they like.
  21. As others have said a rope grab minus the wire is a fail under LOLER and would also not be acceptable under PUWER When you describe the paperwork as a legal document, well not exactly. Its legal status would be as a written record of periodical thorough inspection, no more or less than that.
  22. Choke?????
  23. The problem with using farm land is that its farm land and would need change of use to be legit, and that could be hard to come by. If you wing it and planning gets on the land owners case, you could be out on your ear on short order
