  1. Hasn't he greased that spring yet?????
  2. There are many brands of filter and cross compatibility is almost universal, try and find a commercial vehicle factor, they tend to be cheaper than a car spares outlet.
  3. Not really a fair comparison there, I think you are maligning the industry and imposing a set of values industry wide that probably don't apply. Any legal obligation goes with the land and by extension the land owner so its a moot point to the contractor. As far as green goes, I don't think so. 2 stroke engines are among the most inefficient and polluting, diesel powered trucks and chippers and all this in the name of cutting (damaging) trees to make them comply with our needs???? I don't consider myself green at all, quite the opposite in fact. Its a service industry plain and simple. Tree work usually involves the client parting with a chunk of change and asking a tree surgeon to do the re plant can look like asking a barrister to do a house conveyance. You can buy a tree in a garden centre and dig your own hole and that's generally what happens, or not if the matter isn't policed. The amount of removals that are obligated with a re plant are minimal compared to those without a re plant obligation so as an industry we just don't get asked for re plants. And................lets face it, re plants just don't have the sex appeal so wont get reported.
  4. Surely if its a conservation area you just file a "211" for the works you want to do?
  5. That's more about what the insurers will pay for than who is liable Your household insurance policy covers you and your property, which is why they wont pay for third party damage or the clear up. Responsibility for that will come down to reasonable foreseeability. If the tree owner ought to have known the tree was a hazard and didn't act they are culpable. Establishing that it the difficult part.
  6. Back end of last year there was a fire at a recycling place in Stockport, it burned and stunk that end of town out for well over a week. Wouldn't want to be down wind of that
  7. Only the price:thumbdown:
  8. That's not a fuel problem its a bad saw problem
  9. Just daisy chain it and chuck it in the machine. You can use special rope soap, Beal do one but I have used the stuff we clean the clothes with for a couple of decades without problems.
  10. That is such a BS throw away comment that you cant use without qualification.
  11. Got to agree with Steve on this, I watched the thread develop and Steve only pointed out as above Some however were so outraged that they couldn't see that or much else
  12. I would leave the plug alone unless it gives trouble I suppose you could run a file over the edges of the guide bar every now and again
  13. The advice from the EA is spot on and should be taken to heart. The advice from the bloke down the tip, not so much so:laugh1:
  14. David is definitely in the "keep the fungus ridden tree" camp because he often has the option of intervention pruning and removing targets and has a mandate to protect amenity. That is a good and laudable course of action but for most that's not an option. Don't underestimate the population density on this small island, as tree surgeons, most of the trees we deal with influence at least one other property and since we became a litigious society people willing to retain compromised trees are becoming a minority. This tree has got a aggressive primary decay pathogen that will eventually compromise the structural integrity of the tree, something is going to have to be done sooner or later. Oh and woodpile? Its a willow...........
  15. Prune for dappled shade
  16. In civy street there are 2 levels of qualification. Appointed person is a short (usually one day) course with little time to cover anything in detail. Anyone can deliver the 1 day course The more meaningful course is the HSE approved FAW course, usually delivered over 4 days allowing sufficient time to cover most aspects of first aid. To deliver this course you will first have do draw up an appropriate course schedule and submit it to the HSE for ratification. You will also need to provide details of anyone delivering the course who will need to be suitably qualified (holding the FAW cert is the minimum). You will also need to hold a teaching qualification. Good luck with it.
  17. AFAIK The deduction is on labour so break your invoice down into labour, hired in plant and disposal of waste.
  18. That's the tree pooing itself cos it saw you breaking out the big saw:laugh1: Seriously though, I would call that a bit of bacterial wetwood.
  19. That needs felling Simon Phellinus ignarius - Willow bracket - David Humphries’s Fungi Directory - Arbtalk.co.uk | Discussion Forum for Arborists When do you want me to come over:thumbup1:
  20. Do you know it shows as well:laugh1:
  21. Are you asking for advice or seeking justification to continue what you are doing? Generally speaking a ladder is fine for access but leaves a lot to be desired as a working platform. To improve it you would need to stabilise the ladder (tie it in or have someone foot it) to prevent it sliding out from under you. Makes it all a bit cumbersome but it is doable. The risk is the ladder slipping your strop gripping and you doing a face plant onto whatever is in front of you, be it the tree or your saw in the tree. Those are the risks, use a ladder if you want, I have done in the past and would do it again but only if it were a better option than spikes
  22. If its a drop side flat the build detail will vary depending on who built the flat.
  23. The guide price is what they have told the owner that the item is expected to make. I think 25% may be a bit ambitious. A lot of auctions with big clients sell subject to approval and run the bid price by the vendor for approval.
  24. I will trust your word because you are a surgeon, will it be OK if I drink malt whiskey instead? I promise it will be in glass
  25. Its only entertainment, if it weren't sensational it wouldn't be worth the while As it stands its got you all talking about it so they must be doing something right Its just chewing gum for the mind
