  1. Superbat? Nice work, are the mechanisms expensive and where can I buy one
  2. Without sight of the job I wouldn't even hazard a guess.
  3. The reason that motor uses that amount of oil is because they have that amount available on the carrier, you can do it with less if you use a standard low speed high torque motor and gear/belt drive the sprocket to get a respectable chain speed. With that system you could run a mobile setup on a JCB beaver power pack, or similar It will be slower than the harvester motor option but you have less power available and less in means less out.
  4. The tree owner has (allegedly) been badly advised, he is liable for the removal of the material left and the removal of the remaining tree to the "make safe" level
  5. Some of it is but there was no talk of felling it, the remainder of the tree that was under discussion was left on someone else's land
  6. That would be the case if the neighbour had cut the overhang, however in this case the owner (or his agents) had abandoned, even fly tipped the material,
  7. The problem with strengthening the steering gear is that you are transferring forces to other components. HD track rods are just as easy to bend when you have a vehicle pushing it. Straightening a heavy duty track rod in the field is a lot harder than a standard.
  8. I think the CC are gilding the lily, if my trailer needed an MOT I would book it in when I took my vehicle, no drama. Anyone keeping the trailer in good order has nothing to fear, those with a shonky or nicked one might have a problem though. If all it did was stop the herberts scratching their heads, standing at the side of a caravan with a flat tyre clogging the roads up every Easter, it would be a good thing.
  9. It sounds like its running lean, give it a looking over particularly the carb boot
  10. Is that in case the king makes a mess of the wiping up?
  11. Clothes But if the king wants to wipe up who am I to care
  12. But the Germans are a different people with an entirely different mentality. They have had registration for trailers since Adam was a lad, and as a people they don't have the "sod it, that will do" attitude that sometimes prevails elsewhere. Making a comparison between the 2 peoples is absolute folley and I say this with some confidence having lived there for a few years.
  13. Don't forget the shipping and HMCE are going to want a slice when it gets to the docks
  14. I wish, last 90 I ran was a 300tdi towing 2.5 to 3.5 in the hilly Pennines on serous of road tyres and I recon that was into single figures at times. It was doing a lot of work though so I didn't begrudge it the fuel.
  15. I would go even further and introduce registration for trailers, it would give most chippers a little more security.
  16. Well if its under warranty send it back If not the carb can be tweaked but don't do it if you don't know what you are doing or have permission from the boss.
  17. I wouldn't bother, nor would I go to the main agent for the cable. I took mine to the lifting specialist I use and he made me 4 new ones for a fiver each. I have a spare one taped inside the cover. Greasing the cable wont make any difference, the problem is that the same short section of cable works around the pulley and fatigues.
  18. Just trying to steer you right, if the saw is in warranty tinkering will invalidate that. I have worked with quite a few 201's and I have only found one that didn't run well and I cured that in a couple of minutes.
  19. If its your saw do as you want, if it belongs to your employer make sure you have his permission before you "tinker" with it.
  20. Your client is mistaken, there is wood in it. GRP is the surface treatment over a board. Its what people like Cronospan are all about. (remember that huuuuge pile of chip in another thread?) Without the timber core the fibreglass alone would be unsuitable for that application. The fruiting body in the first pic is emerging through a gap where there is a cut edge to the board, and in Ed's picture, which I have seen in the flesh it is emerging through a crack in the surface treatment.
  21. I think this might be an explanation
  22. Taking the booze element out I would go with that depending on what's happening with the waste
  23. Reality check This thread was only ever going to go this way. The controversial element far "out interests" all else. It might as well read, I was pissed up in the pub and me and my drunk mate went on a call out, I am still a bit pissed but I am going to finish the job this morning, how much can I charge?
  24. At which point you will have a client that expects you to continue working on "keen" prices. Put in the going rate and impress them with the service, bit hard to do that when you and your mate roll up stinking of beer or badly hung over though:blushing:
  25. Neither, learn to sharpen with a naked file. It isn't difficult and should take you about an hour to learn how. Once you have the skill you will always be able to sharpen a saw. If you are dependant on aids, one day you might not have one and then you will HAVE to start learning how to sharpen without it. Better to learn now than later.
