  1. They do/did a fair bit of that in NZ with the Kauri The results were some spectacularly well preserved timber You are going to struggle to get it clean enough not to muller a chain or two
  2. Could have been taken at this years GDSF:laugh1:
  3. Nothing better:thumbup:
  4. Nothing, there isn't much to pick between the worst and the best, and its all just personal preference but it wouldn't have been my first choice is all Marking out of 10 by elements Truck 10/10 Chipper 7/10 Cleavage 0/10 :laugh1::laugh1:
  5. Not that bothered about the colour, something conspicuous would be my choice. I was impressed by the effort though because the only paint that likes to stick to NATO drab green is more NATO drab green. I have seen the odd RB44 unissued and come out in bronze green which would be an easier job
  6. 20 inch is the max bar for that saw and its a bit more than you need for a bit of snedding If you are going to be felling you could do with more power. My choice would be a Husky 550.
  7. Ha ha My eye scanned the picture thus, nice truck, impressed that the cab isn't in NATO drab, chipper could be better,,,,,,,,,,, OMG
  8. Suitable for what? Its not so much matching the saw to the man as the saw to the task at hand
  9. Nice setup, but the plumbers cleavage
  10. I think you have answered your own question there, address that problem first, if that don't cure it change the harness. Best way to do that is to try a few.
  11. Well, like any vehicle they do break down but a lot of the people shouting loudest about it are the ones that have taken a ten year old vehicle and expect it to work like a new one. They tend also not to posses a grease gun or any mechanical sympathy
  12. That ogre wasn't happy at work, the entire ogre metaphor is unhappy, see the unhappiness melt of him as the holiday relaxes him, watch the next instalment as the ogre returns when he is back at his unhappy job and the credit card bill lands
  13. If you need a holiday to cure the ogre you need to change your job It is a good advert though
  14. The rudest armpit I have ever come across was a site safety officer. Site specific RAMS went in before he came on site. He refused to read it and insisted the trees (simple straight fells) were climbed, because that's how the men that did his trees at home did it. Newly qualified, pissed on power and full of the "I'm not going to prison for you" nonsense that the come out of MIOSH with.
  15. Disco will take a hydraulic pump as long as its not an aircon model. The pump fits where the compressor would be and is belt driven. A JCB power pack will run your little crane, the crane manufacturer will have a power pack matched or you can go to one of the big hydraulic suppliers and pick one up off the shelf
  16. The least I would do is put a deflector under it so the nice round trippyuppy parts are kept away from your feet
  17. A saw bench will have a guard over the cutter wheel, and you use a push stick to keep your hands out of mischief. When you fall on that thing your body will take the place of the log and the chain will run.
  18. Or you trip and fall on it:blushing:

    Oregon chain

I buy my chain by the reel and never use the boxes except on the odd occasion I make one for a mate. Even if you did box them all there would still be plenty left over.
  20. Well you did say land rover:001_rolleyes:
  21. Use a defender and put a hydraulic PTO on the gearbox
  22. treequip

    Oregon chain

Makes you wonder how many times he has "accidentally made one up from the wrong reel"
  23. Nope you are wrong. Moving to same make and model is a doddle (see what I did there:laugh1:) Moving from one make to another is probably going to need a new bumper or some serous bodging
  24. treequip

    Oregon chain

The goods aren't as described so he has to refund and pay for the postage
  25. Those fibre ropes are nicer than cable to handle, but they are easy to damage and Dyneema is pants at shock loading (yes I know you shouldn't but....) and its really good at melting if it even sees any friction. Steel cable for me thanks
