  1. LOLER requires you to ensure anything used on your job is pukka so you should ask for a copy of the current LOLER inspection for any kit in use. That doesn't mean he wont have a broken leg if it goes wrong but you will have fulfilled your legal obligations
  2. What happened to the V8 chainsaw project?
  3. Bolton Timber Projects - ANTIQUE AND RECLAIMED TIMBER
  4. The church is a major land owner and despite pleading poverty they have got money. The parish is worse off than the diocese but they aren't skint. If you feel morally obliged do as your faith tells you otherwise they are a business like any other
  5. Some way that people can check that the hilarious new video they just found on youtube that's only had a million and three views hasn't been posted here several times already.:laugh1:
  6. You need to get away from the tight line idea. The line doesn't need to be tight, as soon as it has the weight of a couple of yards (old school units for ya:laugh1:) of rope below it, it will self tend through the ascender and can hang loose in the traditional way. The first couple of yards goes easier if someone manages the rope for you.
  7. He handled that well
  8. Yes we knew that but its such a pants question that's the kind of answer you are going to get:laugh1:
  9. Panasonic the old cathode ray job expired just before xmas after 14 years of service
  10. It will crack for sure, I have cut many for people wanting "interesting bits of wood" they all split.
  11. So the computer is getting told there is low pressure. It will probably be getting that information from a pressure transducer some where on the fuel pipe probably lo cated between the lift pump and Could be the transducer is faulty, could be a bad connection between the transducer and computer, could be low pressure which would mean the lift pump needs looking at. Could be a pick up filter (if it has one) in the tank is blocked and causing a vacuum. Whatever you do you will need a computer to re set the warning light
  12. But if the PTO is under load it wont disengage How do you get the log onto the cone without using your hands?
  13. Best comment yet:laugh1:
  14. It's got NO payload. Its useless, you will be breaking the law nearly all the time, and it will use nearly as much fuel as the range rover with a turning circle measured in hectares.
  15. Fixed that for you:laugh1:
  16. Ha ha ha ha:laugh1: Factory fitted oil leak:thumbup1:
  17. He is probably right but NOT legally. It can weigh 3500kg all up, with a tipping body and 2 axles you usually get about 1000kg of payload that axle springs and drive shaft will eat about half of that. The only way to use that extra capacity is to register it HGV which will give you about 1500kg of payload but will need an O licence.
  18. It counts against it, a lot, makes it nearly useless payload wise
  19. Nothing mate, its a good thing as is but if you turn it over to tree work that extra axle is just robbing payload down to an insignificant ammount
  20. The one I owned needed the operator to lift the log onto the plate and push it on to the cone until the cone bit in. It was pto driven and the only way to stop the cone was to stop the tractor or disengage the PTO, you cant do either from the operators position, particularly if it has your hand trapped and if its under load disengaging the PTO is going to be difficult How do you get the log onto the cone and what's your emergency stop?
  21. Convert to hydraulic? Well everything is possible but I recon the cost would be prohibitive
  22. Yes and no, much will depend on what you expect of it and if the machine is tracked. Not difficult if you know what you are doing
  23. The big give away is the name of the company that owns most of these combo units. Asplundh are Huuuuge in the line clearance market and in the US where Asplundh started is Huuuuge by comparison with the UK. Its a fairly specialised unit, a bit of a one trick pony but it does that trick well.
  24. On the electric winch front its a good idea to have an isolation switch on the feed. I was gifted one of the PRC made "electric clothes line" type winches which I fitted to my chipper. It was great for pulling trees over and allowed safety while being "adventurous" on slopes. It shorted out in use and without the isolator could have become a bonfire under the chipper. When I fit another it will be hydraulic.
  25. It matters not how stupid he was or wasn't, what's important is the fact that you have to have your hands in there and there is no emergency stop in the event it does go wrong.
