Look I was just trying to make the how and why clear to someone with a question, frankly I don't give a rats. If you want to bitch at someone I believe the HSE wood sector is still at Kennilworth.

I must have been doing this too long is this top handle thing has slipped from memory:001_huh: Well here is the difference, top handled saws can be used one handed which means more kick back, that was the problem the HSE had a bee in their bonnet about. They accept that, with proper work positioning one handed use is acceptable in the tree because its often the only option. The same can not be said of work on the ground. Paulo Bavveresco (spp) did a contract research report for the HSE when he worked for Treevolution. The HSE has a duty to intervene and that's what they did.

Well its not up to the retailer The manufacturers agreed to a deal with the HSE and the dealers are bound to do as the manufacturer says or its bye bye franchise.

Its about who signed up to the agreement with the HSE. The manufacturers signed up to it, no one else did (or were asked to). No one else can be bound by an agreement signed between 2 other parties.

No What happened is the HSE noticed avoidable accidents with top handled saws. The HSE likes industry to regulate itself because that's cheaper and less fuss than making legislation so they made a few noises about a potential ban on top handled saws, the industry got together and agreed to instruct their dealers to insist on seeing a competency cert before selling a top handled saw Private punters can sell them without such restrictions

Yes, it gets nothing but the finest selected bone dry hardwoods and a hand full of coal eggs to make sure it stays in over night. Its on low most of the day time when no one is in. consumption doubled over xmas when we were around more but that might have something to do with my pyromaniac tendencies. I was put off the under floor by "experts" specifying systems that would mean chopping the entire floor up laying insulation and special pipes. They issued threats of dire consequences if not done to their specification. Well I can tell you, no insulation and the hep20 plastic is laid directly into a screed. I will eat my words if it leaks but for now its fine. The under floor runs best when the pump runs but at night it shuts down on the stat and the system circulates thermally so it starves the under floor because its lower than the heat exchanger.

4 rads and under floor heating in the kitchen with a regular sized bath. It will do a lot more, it still simmers if you have full draft on.

My Dunsley Yorkshire eats about 1.2cube a month but it runs the rads and water as well 24/7

Mine took about an hour to make, I did it one morning before a job because I lent the last one I made out and it never came back. Cost wise, well it was some steel I had in the shop but not more than a teners worth and a couple of ratchet straps. -

For the insurers and the ambulance chasers certainly, but in the eyes of the HSE you will be breaking the law using home made kit. Just because you haven't been pulled doesn't mean others haven't. I have had my climbing kit checked against my LOLER records on a site, the HSE were there to look at other things and decided we needed looking at as well. In general terms, in tree work we don't see inspections because the work is relatively transient and we are hard to nail down on a surprise inspection. -

Mate, that's only a bonnet away from a front line tractor where I come from. Hard men would be proud to own that, look at those cab sides, most are rotted away to let the glass out and return it to full hypothermia specification. Nice tractor. What did you have to give for it?

Well the HSE are concerned with breaches of primary legislation so they are the main "they" but there are also plenty of ambulance chasers ready to join the "they" brigade if someone got hurt or suffers loss. The "they" camp gets bigger if your insurers have something in the T&C about only using proprietary kit. -

It is a handy thing for busting rings up without having to "Hoss" them onto a splitter table, just scoop up big rings and bust them into nice to handle bits. If you were gentle you could load the splitter with it.
