  1. U got a link? For a friend obviously.............
  2. About 100k, hopefully going up to 350k in the next month or so!! My aim in the next 3 years is to owe 1,000,000 but it will be in property so when it's paid off I'll have assets of that, or that's the plan...... Interesting how people seperate their works debt to their personal debt when they own the company. One thing my accountant told me was to look at the real cost of debt, if you own 20k of stuff outright (no finance) for your company but have a mortgage that 20k is actually costing you whatever percentage your paying on your mortgage! R
  3. I agree blue definitely looks better than the red.............
  4. I don't generally install a rescue line but we did a reduction of a huge hungarian oak the other day and we did. I normally look at a tree and think that I can be up there fairly quickly (with spikes if necessary) but this one was a long hard climb so we set up a single line and had jumars ready to rock if necessary. Its always worth thinking about IMO normally the rescue gear is in the van, on jobs where the van is a bit further away it's worth having the kit near the tree just in case. Also worth considering if the climber can cut themselves loose lowering them as you would a piece of timber being rigged down, having said that if they can do that they can probably lower themselves. Also if you don't do a full risk assesment at least make sure everyone on site knows where you are in case you do need to dial 999. R
  5. Sorry I'm useless finally got round to it, any good, or are you sorted? I'm working away next couple of days so won't get chance to check R
  6. If you've got a trailer and are prepared to unload it then go for a panel van it seems to tick more of the boxes at the moment for you. That is if you've done your trailer test. Tools in the back of the van, larger wood in the front of the van and brash in the trailer. Just don't let it get into the same state as my panel van. Stevey how much you thinking of for the van, mines tired now but I do like it!!
  7. The margins are tiny, but the quantities massive, is the only way I think it works
  8. They've been butchering a lot of trees in Brierley Hill in the past 10years, will have a look next time I'm passing through though. I've gota admire whoever did it, no matter how wrong it may be!!
  9. It's the nose weight of the chipper you need to add on. As this is the only thing that is adding weight to the max weight of 3.5t. The transit can tow just over 2 ton so should be ok with that!
  10. I've always struggled to get pre-app meetings, only done one in fact and that was only cos it was such a big site that we'd previously had problems on. R
  11. Sorry haven't had chance to do pics yet, will try and do it in next day or so. R
  12. Yep I'll dig it up and wack a picture on here tomorrow. R
  13. I've got one that will fit that the coils gone on, it's off an echo strimmer but is the same engine as the hedgecutter. If your coil works and you want to mix and match pay the postage and it's yours. R
  14. Ladders all the way on that one mate, just have someone footing them at the bottom so when your bouncing about pulling it they don't move...... Also I never chip ivy as it's got loads of debris in it, big bonfire or green waste recycling in halewood for me. Did a removal once with big thick stems at the bottom, severed it tied to towbar pulled it off, along with the guttering......... Still worked out the most cost/time effective way to do it!
  15. Fair points, but no matter how many tickets you get, unfortunately people will still achieve them and be useless so probably a pointless excercise IMO. I have several climbers that work for me. Some have all the tickets and are fantastic, other have turned up with all the tickets and are absolute rubbish, these don't get invited back for a second day! Others have the basic tickets but are also fantastic. Experience and attitude are what I'd prefer over everything else. R
  16. Ex Mod sales, they're brilliant, sides roll up, side roll down. If you can get a mess one they even have a little cutout for the chimney means you can put a woodburner in there to keep you warm!! Why did I sell it again..............
  17. If I was working with people I didn't feel were competent I'd like to think I'd be walking away from that particular job. Luckily I'm not not in that position, so don't know whether I would or not. If they can't lower a branch what are your chances of rescue, or even managing to get help if the worst did happen..... The fact that your lowering it yourself suggests that its on the smaller end of stuff being lowered. Sometimes it is easier to lower stuff yourself and the groundsman isn't required except to take it off. This is different to an incompetent groundsman. The other thing that can really help is a quick chat before you go up the tree. If everybody knows a rough plan beforehand it can be so much easier than shouting about which pulley, how much slack etc etc when you can't communicate properly. R
  18. We've all done it, but that experience is priceless. You'll never make the same mistake again:blushing: So much easier to be able to service/repair your own gear
  19. I think you need to have a chat to him before anything. Communication is always key. The smaller things you mention, Karabiners, felling bars etc do end up with the wrong person if your working with that person regularly it's often not seen as a problem as chances are you'll be using them with that person the next day. I think you may have 2 seperatate points to discuss. It's also worth talking about the bulk bag thing, did he assume a bulk bag was a cubic metre in which case a 10x5 tipper body with standard sides would only be just over a cubic metre. Could be a pushing his luck rather than criminal... I don't know the full facts and I suspect you don't (unless it was a high sided tipper big bed filled to the top?) so I'd have a chat with him and go from there. As others have said though if it is genuinely theft you need to get rid, you can't work with people you don't trust. R
  20. I actually think it's quite a good idea, maybe the hygiene station nonsense is over the top, but knowing where you'll find stuff is quite helpful, a bit like mechanics tools with marker pen outlines. I wish I could be that anal.............
  21. I can't find it on there, I can find the 3 point linkage weight. I was wondering if there will be a plate or anything that will tell me. And I know the rules can be different depending on how the trailer brakes work. I've got a feeling it's probably only going to be 3/4 ton or so so not worth doing, just wondering if anyone knew roughly off the top of their head. R
  22. Thinking of making my compact road legal once again, anyone know where I can find out how much I can tow behind it? Will it depend on how it's registered etc? Obviously only useful for local jobs or for jobs that I trailer it there. R
  23. I hope your right, but it may not end up being quite as simple as it appears. Tread carefully is all I'm saying and good luck. R
  24. I'd have thought clutch wouldn't be covered as it's a wear and tear item. Could you not tell it was slipping when you brought it? I'd be careful with what the bloke is doing as regard suing the garage, if he loses will you have to pay his bill anyway?? R
