  1. Evening all Does anyone have a contact for a hedge flail contractor in Colchester by any chance? I’ve got a day’s work for one next week and would prefer a recommendation rather than take my chances on Google! Cheers, Dan 07970188050
  2. That’s shite Les. Someone local who knows you/the location you of the bike I’d imagine - it’s only been nicked for a bit of a laugh/joyride. Get asking around, offer a reward and go and crack some skulls!…
  3. And you’ll get rats…
  4. £900 to do a job an arthritic lady can do in a day?! Wowsers!!!
  5. Some plans and good info on here mate https://www.barnowltrust.org.uk/barn-owl-nestbox/barn-owl-nestboxes/
  6. Noted - I didn’t realise that sort of feedback was wanted tbh (but it obviously makes sense!)
  7. I’ve used it a bit when working out of area and it is generally great! Had a difficult time with it on a job in Essex recently as all the sites were already full or could only take tiny amounts etc, but it indirectly found us somewhere to tip (someone on the directory’s friend had it). I guess it might be because there are plenty of sites around you maybe, and local tree surgeons already have their outlets organised? If biomass has a decent value in your area then it’s likely that lads will have their own storage and sell it in bulk.
  8. We had an old Vauxhall Combo (which was a terrible van, don’t get one but it proves jmac’s point) that had a home made sump guard and did well on rough forestry tracks. You don’t necessarily need a 4x4 and the additional running costs, and vans offer a bit more security for kit.
  9. I ordered a new Hilux in March - was told I’d have it before Xmas. Now they don’t know when it’s coming!
  10. Not having a 3.5 tonne tipper from day 1 definitely held my business back - get one before pretty much anything else if you are setting up in the tree game in the uk.
  11. He definitely means not, I think Pete is probably pissed as he’s just broken up for Xmas!…
  12. Either way I reckon it must have been the dog who took the coke!!!
  13. I’m just going to leave this here… (It won’t let me link the article - this pic tells everything you need to know. Google the rest if you really feel the need!)
  14. Weren’t you guys going to rebuild one of these for posterity a few years ago as it was the oldest GM chipper you could find? Did anything come of that project Pete?
  15. I wouldn’t bother with FRJones, they seem to have gone to shit tbh. We put a little order together as they offered me a discount voucher for cancelling a previous Facebook promotional order where they sold products they didn’t have… The small recent order ended up being made up of products it turned out they also didn’t have (but were still happy to sell - similar business model to Northern Arb Supplies I reckon!). A mate has just had a similar experience with Money Brothers - he bought something he needed in a hurry and it continued to not arrive (as they took his money for something they didn’t have…). Sorbus are the way to go - brilliant company, I’ve only ever had amazing service from them. They’ll tell you if something isn’t in stock and are realistic with lead times. And they are nice people too!
  16. Nooooooo!!! What a bugger! Surely there should be some sort of centralising spacer insert? No way is what you have correct. Send the dealer and/or the Grillo importer the link to this thread - it would be interesting to hear their take on it (and find out from the horse’s mouth how it is supposed to go together).
  17. I’d take it back and let them sort it, but ask them to test it before returning.
  18. How did the ground you were turning on look after you’d moved that pile? Nice yews by the way - some money’s worth there!
  19. Stinks of profit. £750 plus per day minimum for that setup surely?
  20. Only if it was brought here by Marty McFly…
  21. Try South Cave Tractors - I’m sure they sourced me some Holder parts a few years ago (but I can’t find any paperwork/emails to back it up so might be dreaming!).
  22. Accept the fact that the tree will always be there no matter how sick of it you get. It might also mean that you can’t get planning for any sort of extension depending on location/proximity to proposed build (speak to an arboricultural consultant before committing to buy if this is a deal-breaker for you). It is also possible that the tree could cause subsidence depending upon soil type (London clay is susceptible, but not all of London is built on shrinkable clay). If you are already not happy with the tree I’d suggest walking away personally, London is full of houses, you’ll soon find another one!
  23. Hope there’s no phone lines on his route! I’m all for getting as much on a load as possible but that last log suggests to me that he’s a total dickhead if he’s taking that down a public highway…
  24. Does the boss 196066 not have some sort of flange underneath to centralise/locate the blade? If the blade has been loose might it have been worn away?
