  1. Does water running off it stain surfaces below out of interest?
  2. I’m guessing you burn at least 3 ‘faces’ of the boards to allow for shrinkage/movement, so there isn’t a disparity in colour?
  3. Any pics?
  4. Zero experience, never heard of it until now tbh, but saw the last half of an old Grand Designs recently with a chap converting an old bungalow and he was charring the larch cladding with a blowtorch before installing. It looked brilliant when finished!
  5. I had a quote off them last week - already have a tractor insured with them for forestry/tree work (insured as ‘special types, a lot more expensive than ag tractor which I also have with them). They would cover the diggers in the same way (but maybe because I already have a policy in place) - was expensive though so didn’t bother moving.
  6. Trust (who insure them as a bolt-on to my liability insurance). I just had confirmation from them that the diggers are covered onsite if secured in a heras compound overnight. It’s not something we do as a rule (and I wouldn’t do it with anything under 3 tonnes as feel it would be too risky, insured or not) but have a job coming up where it is necessary.
  7. Those infamous man-eating cows left to pray on the weak and infirm… Sad as it is I see this as nothing more than ‘One of those things’. (The dogs won’t have helped). Load of bollocks that the farmer has been convicted of anything at all - I’d imagine a couple of warning signs either end of the field access would have seen him considered innocent.
  8. Any anti-gypsy talk is always met with ‘They/we aren’t all bad but we all get tarred with the same brush/there’s good and bad in all elements of society’ blah blah blah. Why does any provision for this particular group get destroyed if not strictly overseen? Outsiders doing the robbing? (I personally doubt it). A small element of scumbags within the society ruining it for everyone else? (If so why don’t the non-criminal majority ostracise them and kick them out?).
  9. Those UFKES are the dog’s bollox, I’d probably be looking at those or MusMax before Bandit tbh (nothing wrong with Bandit drum chippers though, but I’d be interested to see a side-by-side throughput comparison with these 3 manufacturers equivalent machines). The UFKES infeed setup is very very good.
  10. This thread contains all of the evidence required to reinforce why you should never believe any ‘facts’ found on the internet! What an enormous pile of bullshit from a vociferous but ill-informed few!!!
  11. It’s a bad time to be buying a second hand truck/chipper/anything really - stuff that should be £2-3k is making £6-8k for some reason. I’d mirror the above, put your dosh down as a deposit against something newer if you can.
  12. South islander? Genetically mega at rugby!
  13. Cheshire. It is, yes!
  14. It’s a great idea - might be worth sending a few loops to relevant colleges possibly?
  15. I’ll pm you now.
  16. My mate is selling this @eggsarascal - he’s dead straight and it will have had plenty of servicing in his ownership (it’s been his work van, he’s a tractor and plant mechanic). Not sure if it’s up your street but you can stand up in the back etc.
  17. Shame - I’ve got this big old girl that I’m going to move on as don’t have a use for. Planer and table saw combo, you won’t wear it out!
  18. Have you got 3 phase?…
  19. Not really what you are looking for but this looks cheap (relative to what these tend to sell for!)
  20. Any thoughts/experiences of the newer MAN/Crafter vans?
  21. This is a Ford 3000 (ultimate firewood powerhouse!), you might be able to find a 4000 manual online which should shed some light on the subject. That tacho above would do exactly what you want - I’m pretty sure you can get cheaper ones that will meet your requirements equally well.
  22. Does the tractor’s rev counter not work? It’ll often be marked where 540rpm at the pto is, or a plate will tell the operator ‘540pto at 1800rpm’ for example. On a processor accurate pto speed is not too essential - just run it at a speed that feels and sounds right.
  23. Stoke has two ski slopes and a tropical waterslide paradise. It’s essentially got all of the best bits of France within easy commuting distance of pretty much everywhere in England. What’s not to like?!
  24. I’m not surprised you are run off your feet if you only charge £5 for two visits and a survey/report!
  25. £500 to take a few metres off the top of a massive beech tree in a busy public area sounds cheap, and doesn’t include the consultancy fees that will also be due. I can’t see there being much change from £1k, and the tree is still in decline and will probably still need removing at some point in the future. And ultimately removal is only likely to get more expensive. I’m not convinced that the contractor should be tarred with the ‘thieving, lying bastard’ brush solely from the limited evidence you’ve put forward here. We’ve been contracted to undertake a small, very straightforward site clearance over the last couple of weeks and the unnecessary barriers that have been put in place by the arboriculturalist and ecologist (who both work for the same consultancy) has been disgusting tbh - they have bullshitted the client to essentially feather their own nest, massively ramping the costs of the project up inventing reasons the works can’t proceed to justifying further (chargeable) site visits. They are an extreme case but it isn’t the only time I’ve witnessed ‘consultants’ behave like thieving lying bastards tbh. To the OP - for what my thoughts are worth I’d prepare yourself for losing the tree. Kretz is pretty much the worst fungus (alongside Meripilus giganteus) from a tree destabilisation perspective - once you see the fruiting bodies the root/basal decay tends to be rather advanced. The tree can appear to be in great health, but can fail ‘unexpectedly’. I’d be surprised if you can find a consultant willing to gamble their professional indemnity insurance on retention if there are any targets within falling distance (and your photos appear to show that there are). Exploratory work to discover the extant of the decay won’t be cheap - I’d save the money and put it towards removal and a nice replant personally.
