  1. Fixed it for you!
  2. Sorry to hear this Pete - very shocking story.
  3. Not yet, but I am going to buy something and that looks a good setup.
  4. Whatever you make, build two and I’ll buy one off you mate!
  5. Insane money - there was a second hand one advertised for over £200k! Mega tool with a much bigger engine and pump for mulching though, not just a different undercarriage.
  6. Might have been worth asking these questions before buying the house maybe?…
  7. I was in Morzine when you posted this - the untouched snow on the mountains was orange, pretty mad to see!
  8. These are good if you have a spare piece of matching timber to make your own matching countersunk plugs https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-plug-cutter-countersink-set-4-pieces/6418V?tc=MA8&ds_kid=92700055262507123&ds_rl=1244066&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3IqSBhCoARIsAMBkTb2foxpojCxgEjj0lwRowfNeQDSh00GtQqNHxNKqzYmNRZckchsH7BYaAhLtEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
  9. Mine is on RSJs too - I wanted it to be strong enough to not flex so I don’t have to worry too much about levelling it. A mate has a Norwood on their trailer kit and never bothers towing it anywhere as it needs a lot of levelling up each time you move it - I’m way too lazy for that so am trying to make my mill as rigid as possible!
  10. I’m building exactly this right now, but on a 16 foot Bateson trailer. The other benefit (as far as I’m concerned) is that I’ll be able to store the mill up on the top of some racking out of the way when not in use.
  11. I don’t understand why all new buildings aren’t stipulated to have solar arrays as roof structures. We clear sites for warehouse construction - these buildings cover acres of ground. Why can’t it be a planning condition that they must be built oriented to optimise rooftop solar? It’s the same with new farm buildings etc. There are plenty of little steps that could be taken/forced upon us that I feel could/should be implemented - I certainly don’t feel that ‘the green agenda’ as it stands is anything other than smoke-and-mirrors woke bullshit that does nothing to address any perceived issues (it simply moves the problems elsewhere).
  12. The entire thing is a scam - there are apparent online providers (which is more than enough adequate input for this ‘qualification’) but the reality is none of them actually offer the course online as they can rinse more money out of you face-to-face. In my opinion you’ll get better value ignoring the ROLO bollox and putting your lads through a plant operator etc course that might offer other value to the business (but ultimately generate the CSCS/NPORS number that you are in need of)….
  13. Reporting for duty sir! If someone trespassed across my land, dug it up and planted their infrastructure (from which I received no benefit) without my consent then I wouldn’t think twice about chopping it down. I’d also pursue them for criminal damage and loss of crop if possible.
  14. Very sad news J, really sorry to hear that.
  15. There are wayleaves and easements - one of these agreements essentially hands over all future rights of access etc to the utility company, the other keeps the majority of rights in the hands of the landowner. If one of those agreements is in place historically then they may be able to place their infrastructure on your land howsoever they see fit. If not then they won’t be able to do it without your written agreement, whatever they tell you. If they come on against your will and plant a pole whilst you are out then I’d fell it and keep it personally.
  16. A lot of tenders are won on loss-leader pricing, with the winning bidder anticipating making their money on unplanned additional work…
  17. No real interest in cricket, but Elizabeth Hurley hung off the end of him for a while so he was clearly a legend!!!
  18. A mate is scrapping an old ocean-going tug and I took the forestry winch to help him get it to a slipway today - it was a nice change from the norm! (I don’t know what the boat weighs and scale in the vid is hard to guage, but the crankshaft weighed 5.5 tonnes when he pulled the engine out to get the hull sitting higher in the water!…)
  19. Anyone got one? I’m looking for someone to chip some whole tree for me please - either to waste or you can have the chip (would need to go out in tractor trailers though, as nowhere to load a truck). Cheers, Dan
  20. I’m thinking more for daily/weekly operator records.
  21. Boring subject… Does anyone have a way of recording HAVS exposure they would recommend by any chance? Cheers, Dan
  22. Does water running off it stain surfaces below out of interest?
  23. I’m guessing you burn at least 3 ‘faces’ of the boards to allow for shrinkage/movement, so there isn’t a disparity in colour?
  24. Any pics?
  25. Zero experience, never heard of it until now tbh, but saw the last half of an old Grand Designs recently with a chap converting an old bungalow and he was charring the larch cladding with a blowtorch before installing. It looked brilliant when finished!
