  1. I found this earlier and thought it might be useful to someone! https://secure.fera.defra.gov.uk/nonnativespecies/home/index.cfm Cheers Laurence P.s. Check out my facebook page for regular updates with useful websites / information (link below)
  2. Has anyone used a Wallenstein Log Splitter? They do several different log splitters on road towable trailers.
  3. Camping equipment | Camping gear | Survival kit - from kellykettle.com... Home - is that what you saw. I've used one and found them very effective!
  4. Are you telling me that you've passed your CS30, CS31 and CS39 without coming across a Piston Stop before / had to strip a saw down?!?
  5. I'm tempted to attend but not sure whether its worth the £160. Has any one on here attended / found it useful?

Welcome aboard! There is lots to learn in the world of Arbtalk!
  8. I know of two chip sites for clean tip in Newbury - pm for more details
  9. I would only work a Sunday if I was full up with work, and would spend part of it doing maintenance / sharpening saws so that you don't have breakages during the week! Sundays should be a day to relax and spend with friends and family!
  10. You will have real trouble getting Alder to stop regrowing!! Even if you treat the stump it will just re-sprout from another part of the stump. Best bet would be to stump grind them out!
  11. Is this contract work or a full time position?
  12. You might be causing the roots to starve from lack of oxygen. When spreading mulch (wood chip) around the bases of trees to prevent weeds I think the maximum depth should only be 10cm (I read it somewhere but cant remember).
  13. Ok, cheers for that mate. Slowly drying out the carpet with a heater and newspaper! Gunna go check some stuff now.
  14. Not meaning to sound stupid but where are the bulkhead vents and drains likely to be? is it easy to spot them from under the vehicle?
  15. Hello all, I run a Vauxall combo van and was cleaning it out this morning when I noticed the carpet in the drivers footwell was slightly damp, on further investigation the carpet + underlay is absolutley sodden (probably from melted snow! ) I've already had a look at the carpet and it wont come out easily / if at all. The underlay is too wet (you can squeeze water out of it) for a heater to do any good. Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to solve this..... Cheers Laurence
  16. which MEWP were you in at the time?
  17. Similar thing happened to me on Sunday, working in a area of woodland next to a road. Heard a massive bang/crunch so ran over to the road to find a car on its side in the ditch....with one person in. Cars were just driving past without even stopping to ask if everything was ok!! Ambulance turned up first followed by air ambulance and then police (30mins) and fire (even later!) Luckily the ambulance crew were able to get the women out safely and she got off lightly with a possibly broken leg and just shock. Stay safe over christmas guys!
  18. Where abouts was the job Matt? What kit did you have on site?
  19. Nice photo Matt. You can recognise Graham in the photo!
  20. Is there any differnce to the saws performance / life expectancy of the bar and chain from using bio oil compared to normal chain oil?
  21. In my opinion 1 or 2 accidents needing hospital treatment each winter is too much Something is going wrong, either with the training or the way the work is carried out! There are no real time/monetry constraits in a LA so jobs shouldn't be rushed or corners cut. Accidents should be far and few between.....and something that couldn't have been predicted / expected!
  22. I have just come to the bottom of my container of chain oil and am thinking about using the Stihl BioPlus chain oil but is it..... - Worth the extra cost (£63.20 compared with £39.63) ? - Does it last as long as normal chain oil? - Worth it if I'm just doing private work with occasional work on Nature Reserves (some are SSSI)? How many people use it ? What reasons do you use it for? Cheers for the help
  23. I go into the supermarket to get my food shopping......not look for a firewood merchant on the business card dispenser!
  24. I agree, I think that the UK is undergoing some sort of climate changes and that we need to move with nature rather than trying to prevent it. Its a shame to lose some native flora and fauna but theres no way we can fight nature.
