  1. Would you say they were outcompeting the natives though or just living alongside them?
  2. Do people think with a changing climate this will become an increasing issue or will we just accept it and live with different trees?
  3. Cheers for that backandpack! Will try and find it.
  4. Yeah thats what invasive means. Where abouts are you likeitorlumpit?
  5. Can you remember any more backandpack? Did they say why it was invasive?
  6. Hello I've heard mixed reports on whether Holm Oak is invasive and would like to see what you thought? Due to its native range in Southern Europe this could be a tree that is less susceptible to climate change.....or are the warmer temperatures causing it to become invasive? Cheers in advance
  7. Sorry to hear that mate - where abouts in Newbury (might be better to pm)? Did anything else get taken?
  8. There are a lot of useful books on Tree Hazard Assessment........... "The Body Langauage of Trees by Lonsdal and Strouts" and "Diagnosis of Ill Health in Trees by Strouts and Winter" come to mind!
  9. We had the Greenmech on demo a few weeks back and was very impressed with it! Definitley get the Greenmech, the stress feed works wonders!
  10. Ahh fair enough, that doesnt narrow it down very much!
  11. Nice photos Steve - Hungerford has changed a bit since you were there! Any idea where abouts in relation to the town those trees were?
  12. Yeah think its the water run off, the amount you are storing each year and the fact its a permenant "building", I'm not really involved with it at work otherwise I would be able to help more.
  13. Dunno if you had thought about it Dean but it might require planning permission / license's from the EA............depends how worried you are about legistlation etc! We are doing a similar thing at work at the moment and had to have planning permission, and a couple of EA licences (can't remember what for though )
  14. Having demoed both the Timberwolf 150 and the Greenmech Quadchip 160 I would buy a Greenmech any day. Slightly more expensive and a different design but definitley worth the extra money!
  15. Ahhh fair play! Good to hear that your keeping busy! Will try and catch you on msn at some point

  16. Glad to hear your busy - is that fencing or tree work?? Things are good, just managed to sort out internet (thus the long silence!!). Umm the new job is ok, it has its ups and downs but mostly ok - slightly different to what I expected it to be though! You still on msn much?

  17. Hello mate, long time no speak! Hows things?

  18. I'll help, I've got plenty of access to all sorts of wierd and wonderful trees as I currently work at the National Arboretum. Any particular genus/species you want ?
  19. Well said Hama! Good post Andy!
  20. Haha i think we have all done bad cuts or cuts that haven't gone according to plan in our careers! Nice one for posting
  21. Parker

    todays job,

Can you not get a quad bike and trailer in? may be a slow way of getting lots of timber out but it works
  22. It was a bad example but I was trying to explain how areas should be looked at on a wider scale and not just a tree in a back garden. Having localised populations of species is a bad thing so there is a push at the moment, esp. with wildlife trusts to "link" areas up and create genetic diversity within the species.
  23. The industry is under a lot of pressure at the moment from different areas (both climatic and economic) and as arborists we need to adapt to the changes. I think to satisfy the biodiversity issues that Hama was talking about we need to look at the bigger picture and not just single trees in customers back gardens. Yes taking down a mature tree is detremental but if there are several close by then the damage to the ecosystem is minimal. This does however mean planting a replacement tree or two so that in the future there are trees ready to replace the trees that have reached maturity. As for economic problems, the industry needs better regulation but more importantly the general public need to be educated in how important trees are. Although companies can become more efficient I think it would be interesting to see what companies spend the most on, e.g. fuel, labour, insurance, new machinery etc and as an industry we could reduce these for everyone. Cheaper insurance if you are an AA approved contractor for example. Thats my thoughts anyways.....
