  1. I've just completed my Foundation Degree and want to start doing Tree Surveys and Reports as another part of my business. I wont be doing a huge amount each year but need to sort out my Professional Indemnity insurance but have no idea how much I should get. I've got the choice of the following levels of cover £250,000 £500,000 or £1million. Which one is the most common in the Arb world? Cheers in advance
  2. You still working for the Forestry Commission ? I can vouch for Mark being a decent instructor and assessor.
  3. I will keep you in mind if I need a hand with anything. Have you done any grounding for tree surgery?
  4. Are you practicing for a grade or just playing for fun?
  5. Here's mine L Parker Tree Services
  6. They guy I normally work for said last week that he had work for me on Tuesday then when I rang him yesterday afternoon he said that he didn't need me any more.....frustrating but I've been able to get on with lots of maintenance / paperwork so its not a completely wasted day!
  7. Interesting, I've been offered a fairly competitive price on the HT101 as its an ex-display one and was thinking of only using it on the smaller stuff anyway as anything too big it would be quicker to climb and use 200t. Theres only 0.2kg difference in the weight.
  8. Well said Andy - you always have to be proactive about finding work, even if it is just handing out business cards to people. They are cheap enough not too worry about giving them out to loads of people.
  9. Hi All... Looking at getting a Stihl HT101 pole pruner and want to know what your thoughts / reviews / any problems you've had with it are before I part with my hard earned cash! Cheers, Laurence
  10. Nice work Dave. Its good to see some really nice coronet cuts and the tree being saved as a monolith.
  11. Written quote everytime. As stated before I think it gives a more professional image and allows you to put all the work down so everyone knows where they stand.
  12. It's good to know I am thinking along the same lines as other people. I would much rather manage the risk and pollard the tree, retaining it for its ecological value then remove it altogether. Fungus - I think coppicing it would be a bit severe and the young shoots might be vulnerable from browsing or being broken by vandals. At least if you pollard it theres no risk of this.
  13. Two different points of view - the beauty of a forum Fungus - coppicing it would be a little bit severe, I was thinking maybe a hard pollard down to 10-15ft to reduce the sail area and just manage the tree a veteran pollard. Would the failure be in severe weather or could it happen at any time?
  14. I've recently looked at a large mature Willow with several brackets of Phellinus ignarius starting at 1m up the stem into the canopy which is overhanging an area at a local nature reserve that is used for teaching / children's birthday parties etc. Does any one know how aggressive Phellinus ignarius is?
  15. Good video, those horse's are working hard though......almost too hard in my opinion!
  16. Really interesting program, recommend this for anyone that has a passion for trees.
  17. That and the pressure washer afterwards to get all the salt off the machine!

  21. Don't particularly want a 12v compressor, would be easier to get a mains powered one and can't wait for Lidl/Aldi to have one......I could be waiting for months. Anyone got any other ideas on where to buy one and what sort of money I should be spending?
  22. Hi All, I'm looking at buying a small air compressor for the workshop for cleaning saws, pumping tyres up etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on make, model, size? Any help/advice is appreciated. Cheers Laurence

    Bit windy!!

Got called out to deal with a poplar that had fallen onto a barn roof. Dealt with that one and then felled another poplar into the field as that was severly rotten as well.
  24. Where abouts is the job? If you need a hand send me a message.
