  1. Not easily, it's private properties on the other side and I doubt they would be too keen with that. Was thinking along the lines of rescue throw lines though. Good thinking about the water levels making it easier to winch stuff up the bank.
  2. Nope, site is on an island and any equipment has to be carried in by hand.
  3. Recently looked at a job which involves winching (using a tirfor) fallen over Willow trees from a fast flowing river that is probably 30ft wide. I've worked around lakes and small rivers before but due to the speed and width of the river this one is concerning me......if we fall in there's a good chance we might get swept away. Has anyone done something like this before? Ideally it would be best to wait until the flow of the river is reduced (i.e. mid summer but this can't be guaranteed and its to do with an insurance claim so the willows need to be removed asap!) Thinking of getting staff to wear buoyancy aids and having at least 1 throw line on site. Might also look at roping in for the person tying the winch cables onto the trees as they are on the edge of the bank. Any suggestions / comments please
  4. Same with me, it was one of the first things I sorted out when I first went self-employed. I also proactively keep in contact with them and get updates every couple of months.
  5. Thanks to everyone at Skyland Equipment, not only did they donate £50 for the Arbtalk raffle but there service is superb. Order placed on Friday afternoon and the goods were with me by lunch time today (Saturday!)
  6. I've had that before, first job I did for an elderly customer. I've since had another 5 jobs from her as I treated her the same as all my other customers and didn't get annoyed by it.
  7. Ive just bought myself the 18hp version of gloria, really pleased with it so far
  8. Cheers for the suggestions. Has anyone had dealings with Barchams?? Do you dig the holes by hand or go for the lazy option of a mini digger?
  9. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy semi mature trees from? Any one got any good tips on planting semi mature trees? Customer wants to add compost to improve the soil, I've never done this before so suggestions / comments welcome. What ratio should it be added? Thanks Laurence
  10. Agree with this, its just another tool available to us. If you did lots of small reductions or fruit tree pruning it would probably be ideal but not for a company that undertook large take downs every day.
  11. I agree with this, sometimes I think that we try and change nature to what we believe is right but actually we are stopping the natural processes that should be taking place. There is a fine line between conservation and preservation - do we support the wildlife that is establishing itself or try and keep it exactly how we want to by creating artificial habitats and destroying everything else.
  12. I would probably buy a couple, depending on the price as they are easy to store and always useful. What price would they be?
  13. Why the monoculture of hybrid Willow and Red Alder? Surely it would be better to mix in other species such as Sycamore, Hazel, Sweet Chestnut to ensure viability in the future if the two species that you have planted become infected with a pathogen.....Ash and Chalara fraxinea come to mind. Will also be better for the native wildlife
  14. If anyone is looking for a Series 3 long wheel base I've got one for sale, good condition with almost a years MOT. PM me for details.
  15. Can anyone suggest or recommend a good hands free blue tooth kit please? I've had ones around the £50 price before and they have just been pointless and a waste of money
  16. Come on guys, let's make it £5000 by midnight tonight. I'll be getting my 2nd batch a bit later tonight.
  17. I've just put £20 on and will do so again in the new year. Great job for breaking the £4000 before Christmas Day
  18. Had Stuart working with me this morning, he arrived on time and worked hard all day. Would recommend him and will certainly be using him again in the new year.
  19. Nice clear video, thanks for posting
  20. Are there any self employed climbers or groundsmen around Newbury, Berkshire that are looking for work? Will probably have a few days coming up in the New Year with on going work throughout next year as the business is developing fast. Please pm your qualifications and day rates Thanks Laurence
