  1. BUMP - still looking for self employed groundstaff
  2. Looking for a self employed groundsman to work on a variety of both domestic tree surgery and heathland management work. Own transport and saw required. Qualifications essential. Pay dependant on experience. Based in Newbury, Berkshire but work in the surrounding area. Contact Laurence on 07787 997822 if interested.
  3. Spend some time going through all the old threads on this forum then create a business plan. If you don't already have contacts to get into the woodland work in my opinion it is very hard to get them as most estates use a contractor they trust.
  4. I'm looking at buying a new hedgecutter to use for just formal hedgecutting and have been considering the electric options so will be monitoring this thread closely
  5. A very interesting article. If the woodchip is being used as a mulch though is this not locking the Carbon into the ground and slowly realising it as nutrient source so therefore not wasted. I agree that there should be more of a nationwide management of our urban tree cover and that local authourties should be given more money to maintain them.
  6. Might be worth checking to see whether you need a DBS (new CRB) checks for everyone on the team as there will be unsupervised access with a minor (under 18)
  7. I don't mind strimming just grass......its when you hit a dog poo, bottles of piss, plastic, etc!
  8. Haha my thoughts exactly Marc, you were just quicker at typing it!
  9. In a way it doesn't matter why the trees are coming out! Yes they are lovely mature Beech trees but they have a defect (the fungi) which with the targets means they are going to have to be removed at some point in the future, why prolong the inevitable. The work is for a parish council which in my experience often don't have the money for in depth consultant surveys, staged tree reductions or continuing management. In a lot of cases they don't have the money to replant which is why the Jonny is paying for the replacements himself!! Felling now, is a shame but by planting the new trees Jonny is trying to secure a heathy tree future for his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren as those before us did. Anybody know if the beech is worth anything to sell on!?
  10. Have a look at the greenmech tracked chippers!
  11. Just donated. Thanks for sharing the link .
  12. Got sent the link below about a lifeboat volunteer from the Isle of Wight who is also a tree surgeon and used his rope skills to assist when the car transporter ran aground in the Solent in January! Four lifeboats. One massive mission. | RNLI Web Magazine Is he a member on here?
  13. Fell and replant in the grass area behind the fence which will then grow on to be the next generation of trees.
  14. Boulter Tippers in Tadley. They built the back on my landy and I've been pleased with it.
  15. EJM Tree Services. 01635 524217 - they will provide operator and digger

    U deusta?

Yep - time to remove the tree!
  17. Hi Bluemerlin, well done on getting the area planted up and creating a new scout camp site. I'm an explorer leader and would potentially be interested in using it if you could post more details about the campsite.
  18. Have a look at the Oxdale range of splitters. Ive got the SE400 and pleased with it.
  19. Continue to grow my business but also take on board the comments about spending time with family and friends and not work every weekend!!
  20. I use the Oxdale SE400 and find it easy to use and it has a quick ram speed which is beneficial.
