Couple recent jobs, well the last two I actually photographed! half dead oak to monolith, priced 3guys to rig etc over new roof, ornamental lamp, fence, sewage system, but decided to have an easy morning and employ one of the co’s I occasionally climb for. (Can be allergic to social media hence the name being scrubbed out) Photos really don’t do it justice, grapple saw and operator made light work of it and a lime, would have been an easy short day but bloody strong winds and snow blowing towards the building on the left and logshed behind made it a rigathon. 1 up 1 down, tractor making light work of the ground work though, felled after last shot
  2. The stability was a concern, but then, Vermeer, Rayco and Carlton all make similar looking machines without problem? Then the Vermeer 272 I’ve been using is simmilar width and never rolled, plus stumps to be ground tend to be in nicer access places-lawns, not like the places the tracked chipper needs to go. Rarely do you need to travel on a side slope, just take it straight up/down instead. And then the £:hp ratio was too tempting!

  4. Like rich said, or tried to say plus I found those massive armchair looking leg pads nipped my thigh and occasionally extremely uncomfortable, something I’ve never experienced with the TM. There were a few other niggles but the twisting and the pads were the main ones @silky fox i remember thinking it’d perhaps suit the more sturdy, just got into the job at 40, type climber who’s not jumping around trees. But unlike Rich, I diddnt give it a long tryout (diddnt want to tbh, just wanted my tm back!)

  6. Then we just need a cheap Chinese hobby to die early and Peteb with a good old uk GM to take victory well that’s a supprise, back on track!
  7. IF mark, I said IF I were in the market for a little chipper as it stands my Jensen is a German tank driving over neutral Sweden and when the bandit arrives (if it ever does, more chance of pigs flying it seems) I can have a tracked America vs Germany battle.
  8. If i were in the market for a little chipper, id play it safe with a greenmech. Both the cheapo's and the greenmech will depreciate the same amount of £coin (percentage wise, the greenmech far less) Both will do the job, but the greenmech should be pretty much problem free, easy to change blades, no downtime, good dealer backup can that be said about the cheapo's? 5 years down the line you should still be able to easily sell the GM and get back a good wad of cash, 3,5k perhaps, good for downpayment on a bigger machine, the cheapo, 400 quid if you're lucky/can find a buyer/its not on the scrap heap, not a great help for downpayment on a bigger machine (unless its a CS100 )

  13. 50k isn't as much as it sounds especially without any money coming in, and insurances, taxes, advertising to constantly pay Very few "need" a 4x4. don't be tempted by the "want" of one. do what makes money not what nessaraly whats cool. What would i do differently? If in the uk i wouldn't have brought a new hilux (33k) but a 3?yr old cabstar/fuso style tipper + simple highsides sign written hopefully within 15k. Again, if still in the UK i wouldn't have brought a 2nd hand tracked chipper (12k) and 2nd hand tipping trailer (6k) but a new 8inch tow behind Saws needed - 150t 10", 201t 14", 560xpg 15+18", 661 25+36". thats a couple k there! in the uk you'd be needing hedge cutters and ladders too basic rigging kit Don't forget boring stuff like signs and cones, pension plan, consumables, ppe, waterproofs, blower, rakes I'd have without a doubt built up a strong relationship with a good web guru and spent thousands on a website and web marketing/local advertising. A good accountant is a must (mines also a business consultant and she's been ace) I wouldn't have survived if it wast'nt for subby climbing for others, but then, i didn't do any advertising other than leaflets If its just more money, do a few loads of logs a month if your current co doesn't do logs that is. ordinary car, small trailer, and little petrol splitter Think, just because your current employer is rapidly expanding, doesn't mean the owners are making more profit!

  17. They need lubing, mine were getting stiff a at a few months old, WD40 worked well. Have an old rag handy/against the bodywork to mop up the run-off

  19. I didn't read it as a criticism but some will assume re-badged = shite! Not an overly impressive video on the Laski link though, compared to the better-known brands

The regular Stihl bars are very good as standard, The Sugihara bars are very tough I've found, they need a really good flat file to dress them though (once in a blue moon) Theres hardly any price difference between them at 36" (Sugihara light) Unless my local dealer could do a good price on the Stihl bar i'd probably go for Sugihara as its shiny

  23. If you’re thinking about finance, how much is the difference in monthly payments between (example) a TW160 and 230?
  24. ^^^ This! Im a landy fan but would not run one as a main vehicle especially for a new business (as i understand you are) You'll pretty much half your m3 payload yet handle that half load worse! Parts are cheap (thats good, as you'll be replacing parts often) Down time aint cheap or even free though. If the transits too big i'd look at a toyota dyna or older nissan cabstar. The getting stuck in snow - how often does the uk have snow days, how much £ would you loose taking those days off and how much extra £ does it take to run a defender with less m3 over the year? probably substantially cheaper to have those days off with family and earn brownie points! Most landys are money pits and most are triggers brooms! But you'll probably need to have one to get the idea out of your system, hopefully you're not bankrupt when you come to your senses But i still have a soft spot for defenders
