  1. True Matthew, but unlike Land Rovers, you shouldn't be needing to order parts every other week Normally when ive ordered from the States, stuff arrives within a few days. Mike Hill's got a short wheelbase, 2 door Chev Tahoe with a 6,5 TDV8, shorter than a defender 110, wider though. I visited last weekend, picked me up with it with a tipping trailer and 2 oak logs, gotta have been 2 ton. From the passenger seat you couldn't tell there was a trailer on! I guess general availability of the vehicles would be a problem for you. Old land cruiser does sound a wise choice
  2. Yeah, i forgot the bigest downsides with them, the turning radius! The Green one is 1 meter longer than my hilux, but turning radius is 6 meters wider!
  3. I too am looking at getting a vehicle specifically for heavy towing and 4x4 is a must. Looking west rather than east though! Currently interested in the two trucks below, both F250, both diesel V8 (6,4 and 7,3) towing will probably be similar fuel consumption as a Jap pickup! Hopefully will go see the 6,4 on tuesday. down side is its a HGV (3,6 ton empty). I do have the license though and the tax and insurance is far cheaper being hgv. 90,000km, 3,5t towing, 1 ton on the back, cheaper than a new cap 4x4, but prob still a bit dear really. The older, 7,3 would be better, B licence, 3,5t towing, £12k. Unfortunately its been chipped for performance and owned by a snowmobile kid, so likely to been thrashed (not good for essentially a lorry engine i've been advised) Still tempted, and next weekend i won't be too far away from it to have a look... There is a couple other 7,3s for sale now, similar price, better condition and half the km, but only registered to 3 ton towing.
  4. It’s academic and practical
  5. “D” course today, getting trees off power lines
  6. Skogsarbetare means forestry worker Pretty sure arborist has its own category now. It does on the wage statistics. Regarding the earlier post, it’s only forest worker. Forest (skog) can translate into woods but wood doesn’t translate into forest, wood is a material - trä. Wood worker would translate into carpenter.
  7. Yes, but wider wheels = more resistance and more likely to snag on something =harder work to pull imo That TCF looks rather home made tbh. And the wheels look to be set back too far?
  8. First day out with the bandit! Quite like the style trailer ive hired too Started with a few small apples then onto a chunky oak.
  9. Sorry eggs, my comedy genius has passed you by, I got the only fools and horses theme tune in my head reading your post
  10. What about V A T? do you ever give money back or a guarantee?
  11. Worth every penny imo. Only 43000miles If that was lhd and over here I’d snap it up! what do you think it’s worth @wicklamulla?
  12. Well done for completing the job! I remember when i first started, the lead climber went mental at me for cutting 30cm out then cutting the pegs off - all those little pegs need fxxxing picking up!! Pegs are unnessary and give a false sense of security, they're only good for your rope half hitching them and getting stuck, branches hanging up on them and getting stuck, stabbing your guts, face, balls when you gaff out. Ripping clothing and generally being annoying little wxxkers!
  13. I must admit Paul, I do admire your traveling around, working around, looking around ways
  14. Yep, defiantly the best tool for this job! drove inside the housing area too, along walkways, around playgrounds, nimble and no ground damage (helps the grounds frozen though!)
  15. Last weeks job plus Monday and Tuesday this week moving wood 40 odd trees down, chipped on site where possible and stems away. Plus team 2 took a break one day to rig down a dying ash, chip on site, log up rest. 8 hours total to drive the logs out (plus drove out some logs from other recent works Monday morning, loading containers tues arvo)
  16. You’re right @slack ma girdle, i dropped a log or two today exactly there! I’m sure they could be protected a bit better though? Amazing price! Will be interesting what you make of them @Big J, discount for two?
  17. Ah, sorry, i googled Logbullet and it looked almost identical to the Kinetic, i assumed it was model name or something, whats the fully loaded logbullet cost? sorry
  18. Looks good, haven’t looked at them for a while, the original ones had big drawbacks apparently, which look to have been rectified (no reverse drive for example) What’s a fully loaded Kenetic cost? With crane extension, joysticks, winch, lighting etc? And weight?
  19. Yeah they’re getting expensive, then again alstor has jacked their prices up too! Too whack alstor here is over 80k! Id like a go on the diesel 8000 bison, see what the difference is. This 6000 seems thirsty (might only be noticing its consumption as its running aspen mind!)
  20. Had it out again today, and tomorrow too. get more and more impressed each time I use it! This is was this afternoons work, 4hours, 100-400m extraction route
  21. Cool that you can get the grinder on the back of the ranger @Tree Man Tom
  22. who then works for a guy charging a grand a day, subbing out for 300.......
  23. Am i the only one who thinks the title is misleading? No-ones been ripped off, first quote was a bit high thats all, no trees been cut, no moneys changed hands I too normally put a high price on customers i don't like, i can see why the price left was high!
  24. Donk, MAM vehicle OR trailer GTW or GCW vehicle, vehicles load, trailer and trailers load all combined. the typical landrover (not all) has a MAM of 3,5t and GTW of 7t the LR on its own cannot weigh 7t from the link you provided:
