  1. Buy one, i brought one at the end of last year, and am using it twice as much as i thought, probably more I don't have gaps in the calendar, but after for example, a days subbying, ill do a few stumps, an extra hour, and double my money that day
  2. It used to be a waiting list on the Carbon ones! Try Freeworker https://shop.freeworker.com/climbing-gear/climbing-spikes/climbing-spurs.html
  3. Shouldn't be too tippy, looks like the tracks hydraulic motor powers the front rotor wheel, and clamps onto the chassis. so its not gonna tip up and down like it was if only attached to the wheel hub. i would guess its only slightly front heavy. Very innovative!
  4. Imo you atleast need to recover your hourly costs, break it down, tell him he's right, you'll do it for your basic hourly rate "seeing as we were already there" 2 guys £40 ph x 1,5 hour = £120 + additional tipp fee off £18 .
  5. What was the price of the original job and time it took? what was he price of the extra and time it took? Removal of waste for both?
  6. Worked a bit for a company that had a 27hp koler engine on a Vermeer grinder, a couple thousand hours, never serviced, was dry of oil when I checked, still ran and still does as far as I know!
  7. Have they remembered to instal the blades?
  8. Ive a 2015 3,0 auto hilux, a solid, reliable truck - it was their reputation that made me choose the hilux! First i had a flip up top, great, looks cool, but slightly too little space for me, and very, very easy to break into. So i ordered an aluminium canopy (https://www.expedition-equipment.com/product-category/4x4-bushtech-canopy-top-accessories/4x4-bushtech-canopies/) Which was actually cheaper than the plastic ones here in Sweden! Far more secure. Got a sliding tray at the same time. The tray takes up quite a bit of room but very handy. because of the sliding tray with middle floor, i only have about 50% more room than the flip up lid.
  9. Things have changed Stefan, more and more work is being done by climbing arbs, mainly on the "big" lines where trees can't be within falling distance and need reducing to specific heights. The "nature value" of leaving high (like 10meter high!) stumps and, ahem, topping trees is getting more and more important, even out in the middle of nowhere. Arb work isn't carried out by power companies but subbed out to regular arb firms. some base their business around line work, some just compliment their business with it
  10. No wonder Stefan needs a holiday, not from work thats a piece of piss for him, but from being back on Arbtalk for 5 minutes
  11. Hi Mark, Ive a mechanical wedge, brought from Treadlight Forestry, Slightly different, I don't have a pusher although used one a fair bit, I thought they were too big to just have lying about in the truck all the time. Heres a quick review i done a while back
  12. Bloody immigrants, coming over to our country, working hard, paying taxes, putting half the natives to shame..... ?
  13. Vertex vent for me, fits my big head and all ive ever had, i like it and tbh, not willing to try anything else! When i did make the jump from employee, to self employed, i did go crazy and change from white to black (the black one then sat in the cupbord for months as it looked wrong )
  14. Thanks! It handles it fine, although its very flat here and ive not used any other pickups on my trailer to compare it to. Ive toyed with the idea of getting a yank truck which would be better for towing, but the hilux is the best allrounder for me.
  15. Toyota hilux 3.0, 12ft ifor tipper, tracked 530 jensen, bandit 1844 grinder, caddy van.
  16. Good thank you, very busy, been hot and dry for 6 weeks now, serious drought (the only "water" has been the snow melting) and forest fires all over the place!
  17. Good to hear from you Stefan!
  18. Browse/short reply’s on the phone, longer reply’s on the computer whilst putting off writing quotes and invoices
  19. Ive started removing myself from the tree groups, i'm actually too mature for them!
  20. Well despite the snow hanging around and now a drought, temperatures hitting 35 in the shade at home, and 45 up in the sun on the decking a few weeks ago, everything’s growing ok
  21. Nice one Rough Hewn! Few years ago I was on a project and the other climber came from 5 hours away, he'd turn up late monday morning (fair enough) and tent during the week, returning home friday eve. I get tired of people moaning about being quiet on the work front but won't travel more than 45min!
  22. My sons nursery wanted some new benches at their fire pit, quickly made this, with thought to that the children normally kneel on the ground using the bench as a table when eating to determine the height
  23. Exactly, the point i was getting to. Vesp implied previously that wood left lying about was fair game, free for taking. as it had no value to him, yet mentioned to some it has value. Great if you're like vesp and appreciate people taking wood, not so great if that wood was of value to you. The person helping themselves to the wood, won't know if its a waste or a value product if theres no one to ask, so IMO its not "fair game to take it as its lying around" Personally i put up a post on a local facebook selling group in the morning, chip, logs, free delivery to anyone who wants it.
  24. Exactly “to some” it has value, hows the log goblins going to know if the wood stacked at the side of the road is valuable to that particular contractor if it’s just “lying around” without anyone around to ask? Brilliant idea to offer free wood to the goblins though.
