Cheers for the quick replies! It is still on the uk hyd oil, never any problem with roller or track function, or last winter, a little slow when cold but normally let the machine warm up before going full revs/chipping. Fillers the breather on this one too, just never noticed the excess oil foaming, even in the filler neck before. I filled up to midway in the sight glass, but it seems to chuck oil out if theres any oil visible in the sight glass. What was "abnormal" was not that it chucked out oil after potentially over filling, thats fine, but that it done it again today in the morning without topping up, even after chipping for 2 hours yesterday, id thought the oil level had sorted itself out yesterday morning! I'll change oil and see if i can find a filter on Monday. tracks in for changing the oil?

Jensen 530 vari-track, checked the hydraulic oil level (when very cold) and topped up yesterday morning (couldn't see it in the glass which seems "normal" when cold) but it seeps oil from the stop-bar plunger (looking at this on monday), so topped up anyway to mid-way between min and max. turned machine on and after a few minutes on a fast idle it chucked out a bit of oil from the breather and after showed to be more than full in the viewing glass. used the machine for about 2 hours yesterday. Today, on warm up (been out all night again in -15c it done the same, but this time chucking out foaming oil, quite a bit, then settled down and worked fine Why does it do this? is the level in the viewing glass for warm oil? @Mike Hill, @PeteB?

Felling Beeches? NO! Have you considered a light crown reduction in order to increase light levels? only joking, you want non native species gone but standing dead habitat kept, sounds like an interesting project. put some pictures up if you can And you're poisoning a living tree, i think some small bits of plastic is the least of your environmental worries! Eco plugs from the side on thin barked trees should work well, follow the recommended intervals for the plugs, and buy the correct drill bit (the one with the stopper welded on) and a good drill with good batteries! Will certainly be the cleanest method of application of poison and no risk to other plants or wild life.

Low impact forestry services in Devon and the South West
josharb87 replied to Big J's topic in General chat
Good luck Jonathan! I’m sure there’s a varied selection of work for a low ground pressure machine, not just trees It’d be really interesting if you could start a thread about the Logbullet  -
4 wheel drive Mike! Based on a synchro transporter, The last axle has no drive. after using a regular transporter tipper I reckon having an extra axle is really needed to hold the weight

Haha no! Interesting vehicle though

A 110 double cab tipper would be a smaller box than a jap crew cab tipper! - length of the 110 standard bed is under 1 meter, a double cab hilux for example is 1.5m. A crew cab defender 130 bed is only 1.8 for reference - the same as a hilux king cab, which has about the same legroom in the back as the defender Nice setup 5 Shires, works for you which is most important

Thanks for posting David. Great that action has been taken. The fines are not nearly high enough imo. Its not like it was just a little bit off from the original remit. Did i really read "lopping" in the article?! It looks like the "original firm" had started a sympathetic reduction (look at 11 o'clock, and over the house) was this not enough for the client? hence them "not being able to complete the work" - kicked off the job by the client? did the client not bear any responsibility?

Id go for a residential 10 week course, its a crash course covering the basics, giving you the basic qualifications needed by most employers. And if you haven't, get your BE car licence

They are a generic machine, re-branded several times over. not necessarily a bad thing, plenty of stuff is re-branded. Dealer support will be the main consideration. Id be interested if you do get a price, they seem pretty expensive here ( caller Thaler)

Looks very good!

True Matthew, but unlike Land Rovers, you shouldn't be needing to order parts every other week Normally when ive ordered from the States, stuff arrives within a few days. Mike Hill's got a short wheelbase, 2 door Chev Tahoe with a 6,5 TDV8, shorter than a defender 110, wider though. I visited last weekend, picked me up with it with a tipping trailer and 2 oak logs, gotta have been 2 ton. From the passenger seat you couldn't tell there was a trailer on! I guess general availability of the vehicles would be a problem for you. Old land cruiser does sound a wise choice -

Yeah, i forgot the bigest downsides with them, the turning radius! The Green one is 1 meter longer than my hilux, but turning radius is 6 meters wider! -

I too am looking at getting a vehicle specifically for heavy towing and 4x4 is a must. Looking west rather than east though! Currently interested in the two trucks below, both F250, both diesel V8 (6,4 and 7,3) towing will probably be similar fuel consumption as a Jap pickup! Hopefully will go see the 6,4 on tuesday. down side is its a HGV (3,6 ton empty). I do have the license though and the tax and insurance is far cheaper being hgv. 90,000km, 3,5t towing, 1 ton on the back, cheaper than a new cap 4x4, but prob still a bit dear really. The older, 7,3 would be better, B licence, 3,5t towing, £12k. Unfortunately its been chipped for performance and owned by a snowmobile kid, so likely to been thrashed (not good for essentially a lorry engine i've been advised) Still tempted, and next weekend i won't be too far away from it to have a look... There is a couple other 7,3s for sale now, similar price, better condition and half the km, but only registered to 3 ton towing. -
It’s academic and practical

Skogsarbetare means forestry worker Pretty sure arborist has its own category now. It does on the wage statistics. Regarding the earlier post, it’s only forest worker. Forest (skog) can translate into woods but wood doesn’t translate into forest, wood is a material - trä. Wood worker would translate into carpenter.

Yes, but wider wheels = more resistance and more likely to snag on something =harder work to pull imo That TCF looks rather home made tbh. And the wheels look to be set back too far?

First day out with the bandit! Quite like the style trailer ive hired too Started with a few small apples then onto a chunky oak.
