1. You've made the decision and you will be financially better off which will no doubt help with your daughter. Its not something I could do (working away from home) put since its no bother to you just get stuck in:thumbup1: BTW I am assuming you have a job already lined up in London?
2. When did you get a WCL? No seriously though I agree there does have to be a minimum if as you say we follow the above. But, I dont think you can put a figure on the amount unless you be very specific about everything. You say £450 a day for 2 men but I know for a fact I can do it cheaper and others cheaper than me still. We would all be certified, insured, paying taxes running gear to HSE standards etc etc. One BIG factor is the time you put in, your day rate will be higher as you only work 3 days a week compared to my 5 compared to lads I know that basically work 7 days a week and much longer hours. I think we all need to not get hung up on someone undercutting us and thinking they must be taking cash and using nicked gear as seems to be the general opinion. I have seen people on here mention day rates that stretch from £100 per man per day right up to £1000 per man per day. Its best to just not worry and more importantly not slag people off for it.
3. You sure on that? I thought it was used mineral oil and used veg for that matter that was carcinogenic. Besides isnt bio worse for your health due to fungus and molds that live in it were mineral is inert?
4. Any comments from those who have tried the stuff you mix with water?
5. Ive been having a think and looking at what others earn on here and from next year I plan running a 2 man team at £50K a day and doing 2 days a year. If you can't earn that then it's not worth bothering IMHO. Anyhting less is just undervaluing the industry. It has nothing to do with your local economic market, how efficient you are, or anything silly like that.
6. I agree it would seem as though I am letting the side down. On a quick tot up I reckon I could get my hands on around 60k worth of finance (CC,overdraft loan etc) by the weekend. Now that would be nice bit of a spending spree before Chrimbo:laugh1: Although my favourite past time is most definitely sleeping, which I doubt I would get if I owed out some of the debts on here!
7. 0K But then I don't own any property.
8. Excellent!! Who do I give a load of cash to every 3 months then? Is everyone getting all their machinery checked by an independent, trained and certified person? I do it myself on a more regular basis:sneaky2:
9. Well I could see the number of TPO'd trees increasing a bit. Surely no good will come of it for the contrator or the client. As wildwood-dwt said, what do my rates pay for exactly?
10. Well probably not since I'm sure most of us know the possible consequences of free climbing, using a top saw one handed etc etc, so further training wouldnt really make a difference imo. Well while they are at it why not inspect and charge me to make sure I'm maintaining the chainsaws, blowers, hedgetrimmers, strimmers, stumpgrinder, wood chipper, trailer etc etc? From what I can gather poor maintenance of machinery results in more accidents than the failure of climbing kit. BTW I'm certainly not suggesting that we do bring something in were machinery does need inspecting every 6 months! Although I bet it happens sooner or later!
11. 1st aid tree surgeons. " A cut above the rest"
12. It's just depressing to start hearing about this run up to christmas annual theft business:thumbdown: Good to hear they didn't nick anything and I hope you waste your time installing that alarm, if you know what I mean. Hope everyones gear stays safe and remember we can all do our bit by not evening thinking about buying knock off stuff.
13. Are there many accidents due to kit failing? Out of all the people I know who have had accidents in arb not one has been due to failure of rope, crab harness etc. An before you say loller must be working I know that none of them bother with inspections:001_tongue:
14. Ah right yeah missed that bit somehow. Yep that is out of order poaching work. I still stand by my comment on undercutting though.
15. Step ladders eh, the gayest of all ladders.
16. Surely undercutting is when they know your price then Undercut it. Otherwise he,s just pricing the job cheaper than you were. So the way I see he hasn't done anything wrong tbh. Well apart from doing a very cheap job. I'd be cheaper than all of you and I know others who would be cheaper than me.
17. Sorry Steve no help I'm afraid and dont wish to derail but I had to!! An I bet you have another pic that has a MEWP in the background.
18. Errrrrrr think I'll just keep my blower if it's all the same .
19. What was it called again? Actually I have some of that that I use it for hedge trimmer blades, I thought it was just a lube not a cleaner. Another good use for it now though thanks.
20. You know what the best thing to clean a crab with? Petrol. It dissolves all dirt and resins. Let it dry out then a bit of graphite grease. Although it could damage any plastic parts so best not to use it. Actually is there a solvent cleaner that can be safely used with crabs?
21. "A BEWSEY man took an extreme approach to landscaping his back garden when he asked four men to pull a tree down using a car" Love the way papers report stories. Just 4 random blokes with a car?
22. 42...
23. Yeah Yeah. I know your a closet ladder user. I bet you have a sneaky little double rung one hidden under the bed that you whip out and have a little climb on when the missus is out.
24. Second that. Works wonders.

Fray Bentos

I found a 'Tender' just steak and a 'Boozy' steak and ale. Although since I'm getting fat its diet time! So I'm sticking to wotsits, kitkats and some thorton chocs washed down with a few guest beers:thumbup1: Well until I slim down to the physique of these guys anyway.
