1. Excellent stuff. Good to see a bit of an experiment going on rather than a bit of speculation. In response to previous posts... With regards to leaving a stub, how long do we think that we have to wait after leaving a stub to then NTP it? I also assume it is very dependent on species since what is the best course of action if the stub starts to resprout?
2. CS51:-How to hold a chainsaw in the rain forest.
3. Close call indeed! I assume you amended the RA after that near miss?
4. I sort of remember something like 3 chains to a sprocket and 3 sprockets to a bar as a guidance they mentioned in college, was awhile ago though. Also thinking it is a load of balony, as most of my bars are the same, ie years old and hardly any paint on.
5. I'd say you just flooded it on Sunday and it was ok by Tuesday and the WD40 did nothing, well except make it smoke. Usually its a bit of easy start thats gets sprayed into non starting engines, never tried it with a chainsaw though!
6. Have a blade that is a + shape so you can quarter logs rather than just half them. Ideally the blades can be interchanged as the + wont be suitable for all logs. I prefer horizontal splitters too, just seem easier to use to me.
7. Plus anti fling doesnt seem to be any better than just normal engine oil to me. Anyone remember how many chains your supposed to get out of a bar before you change it?
8. I would say the big con is productivity. I guess using an axe isn't anymore s:thumbup1:kilful than using a chainsaw, its just a diffent skill. Is great the oldpics in the days of dropping big trees with an axe.
9. Ive done a few removals and UP TO NOW everyone has gone better than planned. Deffo get a nice wallpaper stripper. I wouldnt agree with the above on killing it then removing it tbh only because I have tried to remove old dead ivy and it was a lot more difficult. You could just price in a MEWP then if they are getting a few quotes you will prob be the highest and not get the job.
10. Do you mean to get written permission from the TO that there is no tpo on the trees? If so thats surely a waste of there time and paper! Besides what if a tpo is put in the tree in the mean time. So its best to call just before doing the job, then what If I dont believe them or its a mix up. No wonder some firms dont bother and just sneak on with it.
11. How good an example is all of the above to show that we should all have quick and easy access to a database off tpo'd trees on the Internet. A quick call to the TO to find out isn't always that quick, especially when you have to wait 48 hours sometimes for them to get back to you. Finding out if a tree is tpo'd should be a quick and easy task, after all we are trying to be the good guys so let's make it nice and easy.
12. Sounds good
13. Pfffttt, of course... everything causes cancer. ( I should never have said that, I expect to be dead this time next year) Hope its a year with more sun than rain though:thumbup1:
14. Only problem is you will never achieve any form of sarcasm with a well placed smile.
15. Conifer aphid maybe? Well looks like to me. Are there swarms of the little fellas when you prune the hedge?
16. Isnt used veg oil carcinogenic? Thats why you have to change it more often than if you you use lard!!
17. ..to buy a dodgy meter. I think you cant really get any lower than 15% unless its kiln dried, theres a lot of moisture in the air, especially in the UK!

Pine Craning

I just pay the extra for their insurance, I very much doubt mine would cover it. An if a crane job goes wrong, it goes wrong BIG TIME!!
19. I assume you are employed by him if so its has neck/company on the line in regards to any fines etc not yours. As above in regards to be careful what you say IF you want to keep your job, if not look elsewhere for work.

Pine Craning

Nice vid as usual. Been too long since we last used a crane, always makes me smile how quick you can demolish a tree with one. Think I paid around £600 for a 50 tonner for the day, although only needed it for about 2 hours:thumbup: City crane about £400 I think.
21. Just out of interest, anyone got any ideas on how much a processor that just sort of did the stuff the one in the video does would cost? OK it will be quicker but you get the idea.
22. I dunno, I think I will stick to butt and tip tying in regards as the safest method. Did work efficiently though in the vids.
23. If its their bit of yard that they are paying for surely it wont matter. You cant really make **** look tidy now!
24. I beg to differ.
25. No whistle but I can shout loud enough if required.
