  1. Do I have to explain everthing! You buy flat bar for another job that already factors in the cost of the said bar plus a bit extra which is then left kicking around the yard. You use the extra left over bar to make your roller knives up! Jeez I thought that was SO obvious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. I'd be more bothered about someone stopping the job half way through and really fecking the day up! The crane company will still want there payment and the customer wont want to pay another days crane hire to say the least. I'd have to check it through with the council first although that could well be a big hassle too.
  3. Buy some flat bar, grind an edge on them, grind/oxy off the old knives, weld on the new. Works well, costs nothing.
  4. I lost quite a few regular customers last year because they decided to try other quotes and then asked me if we could match them. I'm cheap enough as it is never mind the fact that I end up keeping the same price with regular customers for far too long with out putting it up. Love it when they say I really want you to do the work and didn't really like the other guy but can you match his price:sneaky2: I never let it stress me out, I just have a bit of a rant and moan then forget about it, until I drive past then have another rant:laugh1:
  5. There two groups of people that were vests. A) hard as nails tough men. B) men with homosexual desires. I don't see Bruce Willis in any of those pics so.......
  6. Why do they have primer bulbs? I usually associate them with non pro saws or hedge trimmers!
  7. Ow! Hope he heals well and tell him thanks for letting you post it on here.
  8. Hmmm I doubt the stihl will do that tbh. Wont stop me having a go though. Reckon it will just go "Blehhhhhh"
  9. I'd just pay the £10 and feed five people for the day. Seriously though, all that in 40mins! Theres less meat in the local farm yard.
  10. What was the torque demo? AN did you try it with the 020?
  11. Gotta say I'm quite interested in how others would go about getting that tree down. Not being funny when I say that but Ive not had much experience in the above situation so would like to hear from others who have. 99% of the time Ive had to take down a windthrown tree its been over someones house/property so its been quietly and sneakily climb and cut without the tree or gravity realising or crane tastic. Think its best to start a new thread though.
  12. Thats why you should NEVER respect your elders.
  13. I prefer these over the stihl ones. HUSQVARNA FLUORESCENT CHAINSAW SAFETY HELMET - NEW on eBay (end time 26-Oct-10 22:58:57 BST) As above though just order from one of the traders on the right, they can do good deals with the right advice and usually next day delivery.
  14. "Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes" ie your only experienced when you have made plenty.
  15. Tbh and no offense but I think you need to be a responsible parent and tell the other parents. I would imagine you would be more than a little annoyed if this kind of thing had already gone on in the past but the other parents thought it best to not say anything. Theres a very good reason why the number of single teenage mums is going through the roof these days. No harm may have been done that you know of, it might be different in 9 months time! Anyway Micks idea is the best one:laugh1:
  16. :ditto: The only difference really is how the bar mounts to the saw. Oh and stihl bars are better since you don't have to grease the sprocket:thumbup1: Had to be said:001_tongue:
  17. Just pointt him to this thread. ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD MAKE SOMEONE CLIMB IN CHAINSAW GLOVES Chainsaw protective gloves are the most useless piece of arb PPE ever invented! They would hinder your climbing and productivity not to mention the loss of dexterity which could possibly be a H&S issue. He would not get into trouble with the HSE if you have a chainsaw accident and aren't wearing gloves. He is either worried about you lot and/or worried about not complying with H&S which tbh isn't a bad thing and you can't blame him for that. It's better than some firms I've subbed to and witnessed where H&S is the exact opposite!
  18. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/afag401.pdf States what PPE is recommended.
  19. Fair enough I have though. Its usually because the previous power line clearer's 5 years before had left a big load of crap everywhere so they arent taking any chances which is understandable. I woulda killed for that machine, dragging hawthorn hedges 1/4 mile across fields, fences and ditches aint fun.
  20. Ha you dont know what some farmers are like, they want nothing leaving no matter how tidy or out of the way. Well except nicely cut up logs. Plus you aint dragging a chipper around and over ruts pot holes etc or reversing it back down narrow paths.
  21. Yep I have, well witnessed one anyway. Stopping the rollers wouldnt have done a thing once the flywheel has hold of it, well in our case the rope was getting wrapped around the flywheel shaft which eventually clogged up and stopped it dead. Horrible way to go that:thumbdown:
  22. I would imagine it would be great for utility work where farmers dont want piles of chip leaving around their fields.
  23. Now that is very very poor! The sweet chestnut pic aint too clever either!
  24. I reckon Reg could give them all the info they would ever need. And slip in that his LD's and that spider crane sling thing should be made mandatory.
  25. Shoulda told her that if she wants wet logs it will cost more as they are heavier and require more time, effort and cost transporting.
