  1. I heard it will be available on a Monday.
  2. Looks bigger than a 20" bar!
  3. Sounds like a very dodgy guy. I would make sure the police know every detail you can give them about the bloke. Getting 12/13 year old girls drunk!
  4. Cheers for all the info everyone I think its unfair that Stihl and Husky are trying to push 'blame' onto the dealers though. They dont expire but we are supposed to do refreshers every 5 years(2 or 3 years for non professionals) I have never done a refresher so im not sure if it will update your NPTC card(i pressume it will)
  5. I have never greased any bars but have had a few oregon ones seize up so I only buy Stihl when I can. I think the problem with grease is it attracts crap so unless you purge it regularly you will have bearings surrounded by crap impregnated grease. Which isnt very good. I assume the stihl bearings are designed to be cleaned and lubricated with bar oil.
  6. Thats the job of the PM;s, tut, tut, tut, tut, tut. I would be too busy getting chaffered about in my Maybach drinking only the best Innis and Gunn had to offer to even care about that hassle.
  7. I dont think it changed, it just sort of got watered down so you had to do more tickets to make you more competent. I think! Ill guess between 1995 and 2000 or there abouts.
  8. Right then. On the Stihl UK web site its says in regards to arborist chainsaws. " For sale only to accredited, professional tree surgeons." So it seems they ask us to provide some form of accreditation ie certificate of competence but I cant find out what types of certs they deem as acceptable. I am bringing this up for no other reason than I am interested and nosy. I dont agree with the policy and I would hazard at a guess that a 'good' lawyer could have a field day with Stihl over this. ie you cant buy this saw if you arent in this club.
  9. Excellent! I knew drinking more beer makes me a better person.
  10. If the only requirement is "only to be sold to proffessional users" then the definition of a professional is.. "A professional is a person who is paid to undertake a specialised set of tasks and to complete them for a fee" Which covers almost anyone who would buy a saw to carry out paid work. So if you ask your customer " Do you get paid for carrying out tree work?" and they reply "yes" its ok sell a top handle to them. So a bit of a strange policy really Stihl and Husky have really.
  11. Sorry to hear, hope your mate doesnt feel to bad about it all.
  12. Yeah and dont faff about for the cameras, get the job done. Interesting vid.
  13. They put them there because the tree man is coming next week and I want to see what it looks like. Anyone else had that when turn up to do the job? The best was a conservatory that suddenly appeared!
  14. I should have except Scotland from my above post as you guys do seem to know how to charge. No seriously though I do think it is quite different from England. A good mate of mine who has worked on decent sized contracts in England moved over to a Scottish power sub company. He was telling me that contracts worked very differently up north, he said to me "You know how they say all Scottish people are tight, well thats bollox, they used to pay all their jobs up front when the contract was signed not like it is down here where you argue the toss and have a big bun fight at the end of the job". They tried to implement it down here but it didnt go down to well even with the bad economic crisis when no one wanted to be shafted at the end of a few millions quids worth of work.
  15. Reading this quote from Gardenkit in another thread.. "I find it strange that I cannot sell a top handle to a tree bloke, who turns up wearing all the kit and driving an arb-truck, without seeing and copying his tickets" Just wondering what are the requirements that Stihl want? ie which NPTC do they ask for or could you get away with the old 20,21,22 tickets? I have known for some time they have this policy and although it isnt a problem for me as I have all the other latest crap I was just wondering if they specify anything in particular?
  16. In regards to the OP and not just the last few pages(I wouldnt want to offend anyone posting there, I would prefer to offend a wider audience.) I would say my tip is to not take it as gospel what others say when they talk about the huge back log of work they have and how they get top dollar on their prices. If work is so plentiful at top money why do they only run one gang and not 10 with a couple of PM's a contracts manager and a full time secretory?!! They could then arrive at work in the Bell 222. Surely there must be a reason they dont do it, I mean who wouldnt? It would be stupid of me to not run more men if there was a glutten of good paying customers in my area. I think Scot Spine said it right when he said... "I do agree in general that we should all charge more - but we're all to a greater or lesser degree controlled by the economic situation of the area in which we operate. "
  17. DailyTech - Battery Breakthrough Based on Graphene Charges 10x Faster If this gets developed then batteries could well be on the cards.
  18. I did that once too! The neighbours three streets down thought dawn was breaking. I would say there wouldnt be much left when you have a burn up.
  19. Cheers for that. Although not sure I would trust it(or is it my splicing I wouldnt trust!) I was thinking about splicing in an eye with an eye thimble thing in which could be handy and act as a stopper as it does with my wire lanyard.
  20. I have used a 020 barrel on a 200t, worked great. Well I couldn't tell the difference. Can't remember what gasket I used though 99% sure it was the 200t.
  21. What you really mean is that you were called out to rescue a cat but cba chasing it around the tree.
  22. All the info you need mate. APF 2010, the UK?s largest forestry and arboricultural exhibition is returning to the same location as its hugely successful 2008 event.
  23. Its the same weight as a 441 but with more power. I would go for the 460 even if it means waiting until the APF.
  24. Sorry but not in my book. Should we just ignore this type of thing? Cause and effect, do something nasty and deceitful and expect to be punished. Lets not forget she is basically trying to get someone to remove without permission ie steal from her neighbour. We all know what we do to a thief if caught nicking stuff from us.
  25. They must have started buying the old pfanner stock of zips. Only ever bought one pair of the hiflex when they first came out, they ripped to bits instantly but im sure the zips were OK back then.
