Cheers for the info all, very much appreciated. Will deffo look into getting broad band. I have seen that scout cam but not sure on the costs using a mobile network etc. Having a look at maplins stuff now but it still is baffling! Catweazel, what Im really after is to see what is vaguely going on if the gsm alarm gets triggered ie false alarm or get down there quick! Although detail would be handy so maybe a mix of something like the scout cam with a DVR? Any ideas on what would is needed to record a decent image? I see stuff like H.264 compression.

Surely you need to take into account the huge running costs a mog has. Plus didnt you say in your previous post that yours is getting tired after 7-8 years? A vey nice nice truck indeed ,but not the ultimate arbtruck for me. You need a nice big timber grab and trailer plus a nice big yard to go with it. The truck is only half the setup from what I can see.

Looking to get a decentish cctv system for the yard. ATM I have a gsm alarm that txts and calls me when activated, so im after a cctv system that I can remotely access when the alarm activates. I have been told that using a SIM card is a no go as the data needed would cost a fortune so it looks like I will have to get a phone line in. Anyone have any experience in using something like the above and any suggestions as in what to buy?

Tyre guy I know had a dewalt 36v cordless, powerful but over £500 I think! Also a snap on 24v which was good. If your going to crack them off and torque up with a bar then you dont really need a mega powerful wrench.

Also they arent supposed to ask for things like being AA approved when putting out tenders, but some do or did. An approved contractor and a contractors list are two totally different things. The LA will usually just use their approved contractor/s for storm damage.

I agree 100% I also found that I just dont need to use it and since it went wrong on me ive never bothered to look into using it again. I would just bore in to the hinge then cut down onto the back cut on heavy learners. Although I will say that since 99% of my work is arb not felling im not surprised I haven't came across many trees requiring a vee cut.

I tried that vee cut once and the tree just went off to one side. Never bothered to try it again.

Since you are having a go yourself make sure you put the cable nice and high up the tree, not at the top of a 10 foot ladder. -
Often see stuff on ebay at 10X the normal price that the seller sells for. I think they may just take a chance the odd time or maybe its a common mistake when putting the price in. Worth a shot though!

How did they try to get out of paying? It's just from your post it seems as though they said something along the lines of "You said you would do that tree and you haven't" etc, in which case just a quote that contains a list of the work required and some basic payment terms should do. -
They are more fiddly to get the krab into. I prefer to be able to do it one handed if necessary or if im holding my weight with the free end I want to just clip it in quickly. The one I had you could just about get the krab in and it had pulled a few strands. So all in all, crap.

A nice rope,had many over the years but the last one I bought had one of those stupidly small eye splices, can just about get a karabiner through it. I don't if you can specify eye splice sizes when ordering. Forced me to learn how to splice though!

I thought it best to start the new year with a good old Stihl V Husky fight.: Im sure huskys are just as reliable..as long as you spend plenty of time and money maintaining them. No seriously though I find that if you give the oil and fuel tanks a little swill out now and then then the saws dont really have any problems.

Since we use pro saws I am under the presumption that they dont need messing about with every five minutes. I hardly ever turn or dress the bar although I should give the air filter a more of a clean than I do. Plus I never bother warming the saws up and they last way long enough to get great value for money out of them. If people can be bothered and enjoy spending an hour or so every week cleaning their saws then fair enough:thumbup1:, I just dont think they need it though. I do carry spare chains though as hitting some stone or soil with a big saw isnt fun and Im not as quick at sharpening as Mr Skyhuck. Although I mainly run Stihls which we all know are more reliable than Huskys.

The big problem I have with guys like this is that if they do cause a bit of a major problem they will in the van and off, leaving the customer in the shite and paying any bills. Why peole are saying the customer is a fool and we wouldn't want to work for them is baffling to say the least!!! The customer could have even picked the highest quote from the biggest bull crap speaker who looks like he's been in the game for years. As said by others though don't let it worry you a two minute rant and a laugh is all they deserve.

It might just be that a mate or family friend has given a price but suggested they get other quotes so not to feel that they are either giving a cheap price or over quoting. At least it was a small job with not much legwork, its less nice being used as a back marker on a large job with alot of calculations. I remember being asked to quote for a job(domestic didnt sound very big) a few questions over the phone and it transpired that she was getting something like 10-12 quotes all in all! Suffice to say I didnt manage to find the time to quote for that job.

Looks like a good sized root plate that could easily pop back into its hole judging by the angle and take someones head off if they dont get it right! Definitely worth a series of pics when it gets worked on.

Nope never bored being away from work. Anyone who is desperate to go outside in the wet and wind to climb a tree is just mental!!

Don't use a cheap two stroke oil then put it in at 50:1! You don't have to use a stihl or husky two stroke just make sure it's a synthetic high performance oil, actually it may be a part synthetic, will have a check of what I use and get back to you. As for chain oil anything really just as long as it ain't used oil of any kind. I have used the cheapest of engine oils and never found the bars and chains to have any more wear than when using anti fling oil.
