  1. Sorry to hear, hope your mate doesnt feel to bad about it all.
  2. Yeah and dont faff about for the cameras, get the job done. Interesting vid.
  3. They put them there because the tree man is coming next week and I want to see what it looks like. Anyone else had that when turn up to do the job? The best was a conservatory that suddenly appeared!
  4. I should have except Scotland from my above post as you guys do seem to know how to charge. No seriously though I do think it is quite different from England. A good mate of mine who has worked on decent sized contracts in England moved over to a Scottish power sub company. He was telling me that contracts worked very differently up north, he said to me "You know how they say all Scottish people are tight, well thats bollox, they used to pay all their jobs up front when the contract was signed not like it is down here where you argue the toss and have a big bun fight at the end of the job". They tried to implement it down here but it didnt go down to well even with the bad economic crisis when no one wanted to be shafted at the end of a few millions quids worth of work.
  5. Reading this quote from Gardenkit in another thread.. "I find it strange that I cannot sell a top handle to a tree bloke, who turns up wearing all the kit and driving an arb-truck, without seeing and copying his tickets" Just wondering what are the requirements that Stihl want? ie which NPTC do they ask for or could you get away with the old 20,21,22 tickets? I have known for some time they have this policy and although it isnt a problem for me as I have all the other latest crap I was just wondering if they specify anything in particular?
  6. In regards to the OP and not just the last few pages(I wouldnt want to offend anyone posting there, I would prefer to offend a wider audience.) I would say my tip is to not take it as gospel what others say when they talk about the huge back log of work they have and how they get top dollar on their prices. If work is so plentiful at top money why do they only run one gang and not 10 with a couple of PM's a contracts manager and a full time secretory?!! They could then arrive at work in the Bell 222. Surely there must be a reason they dont do it, I mean who wouldnt? It would be stupid of me to not run more men if there was a glutten of good paying customers in my area. I think Scot Spine said it right when he said... "I do agree in general that we should all charge more - but we're all to a greater or lesser degree controlled by the economic situation of the area in which we operate. "
  7. DailyTech - Battery Breakthrough Based on Graphene Charges 10x Faster If this gets developed then batteries could well be on the cards.
  8. I did that once too! The neighbours three streets down thought dawn was breaking. I would say there wouldnt be much left when you have a burn up.
  9. Cheers for that. Although not sure I would trust it(or is it my splicing I wouldnt trust!) I was thinking about splicing in an eye with an eye thimble thing in which could be handy and act as a stopper as it does with my wire lanyard.
  10. I have used a 020 barrel on a 200t, worked great. Well I couldn't tell the difference. Can't remember what gasket I used though 99% sure it was the 200t.
  11. What you really mean is that you were called out to rescue a cat but cba chasing it around the tree.
  12. All the info you need mate. APF 2010, the UK?s largest forestry and arboricultural exhibition is returning to the same location as its hugely successful 2008 event.
  13. Its the same weight as a 441 but with more power. I would go for the 460 even if it means waiting until the APF.
  14. Sorry but not in my book. Should we just ignore this type of thing? Cause and effect, do something nasty and deceitful and expect to be punished. Lets not forget she is basically trying to get someone to remove without permission ie steal from her neighbour. We all know what we do to a thief if caught nicking stuff from us.
  15. They must have started buying the old pfanner stock of zips. Only ever bought one pair of the hiflex when they first came out, they ripped to bits instantly but im sure the zips were OK back then.
  16. Christ!!! She sounds like a right horrible person. I hope you can cause her a load of grief with the neighbour. I have had that type of thing quite a few times over the years ie asking to prune a neighbours tree and that they dont mind etc etc.(not talking boundary stuff here) I dont see why people think its ok to do this with threes? They wouldnt ask a builder to demolish next doors shed or wall because it was casting some shade! Although I also think some people should be forced to prune their trees by some new law as it is ridiculous sometimes.Swings and roundabouts well as long as its within the law.
  17. Spiking up a skinny bad leaner is one thing trying to work it as another, especially if its not just cut and drop! Slings for foot holds deffo help when it comes to chogging it down etc as it can be difficult to try and stay upright and reach the stem.
  18. I have the geckos with the bottom velcro strap and although I havent tried the leather type they must be better than these ones!
  19. You are wasting your time on that job. Dont waste anymore. Actually you could drop in to see the neighbour (and tell her you will do so) and tell them what shes up to which would earn you no money but you would be doing a very good deed.
  20. I reckon photoshopped. If you zoom in the features(cheeks, nose, mouth, head bumps etc) are very soft compared to the rest of the pic.The edges of the head are also too sharp compared to the background. I bet the holly had a growth that has been manipulated. Still looks cool though.
  21. No it wont last 5 mins on its own. You can slice it open with a stanley knife. If you used something like 12mm wbp ply then used the dibond for the fancy looking side it would work.
  22. I doubt you will be able to move 1000 cube a year doing it that way tbh. You need a wagon with a grab but more importantly you need the right jobs to come along, ie not your typical arb job of chogging up bits in Mrs Smiths back garden and humping them out to the van. Might be worth approaching your LA's to see what they do with their timber, they no doubt recycle it somehow:001_rolleyes: to keep up with targets but you may be able to recycle it better. 65K a year sounds like you need to be processing full time rather than chasing after timber to me. Good luck though, hope you can get it to work.
  23. What on earth does he do for that kind of money?
  24. Havent seen one of those I think, got a pic? Tried a few out today, I maybe wrong but the double overhand is the same as a double fishermans? If it is the case doing it the double overhand way is nice and simple.
  25. Im all for giving other options to customers but it seems that some are more than happy to step over that line and to really start pushing their opinions onto customers:001_huh: Cant people just say 'not for me' and walk away rather than trying to talk the customer into not having the work done the way they want?
