  1. I was just about to post "Ooops you are probably looking at those figures blinking with a blank expression on your face, so, in old money it is 2.8 inches by 2 inches." So is yours an exceptionally big one then?
  2. Ive found this on previous replaceable sprocket nosed bars ive bought. The bar would wear just before the nose, dunno if the nose is made of 'better' steel. Thing is though the bar would be well and truly worn and I have never had a stihl sprocket fail(apart from the odd 020 when the bar has been well and truly pinched to death) so I think the replacement ones are a total waste of money, big bar or not.
  3. It is very interesting stuff indeed especially when you think a 60cm can generate 10kn of force! Although im not convinced that dropping an 80kg weight is the equivalent to dropping a 80kg person. Surely the harness will absorb some shock so will the person compared to a block of steel.
  4. I would say just because petrol is getting through doesnt mean the carb is totally fooked. Well ok not totally but it may need a rebuild at the least if its been standing a long time.
  5. Had this prob with a 046(which started as an intermittent fault but got worse) and what it was was the diaphragm in the carb had blocked with crap and was forcing the inlet needle to lift off its seat a bit therefore flooding the engine. It was really bad though and fuel would pour out of the engine. It is the metering diaphragm which relies on outside air pressure to do something so has a little hole in the metal retainer that clogs up. I cant really explain which bit was causing the problem so I will look for a diagram and post it up.
  6. Right then so lets see what you have made with it then. This is the one I surgically removed with my boot quite a while back. I took it to a wood turner at a show yonks ago asking if he would turn it. He said it was beautiful as it was and refused. So it has lived in the drawer ever since.
  7. I would just buy the cheaper Stihl bar. The nose sprocket/bearing will probably outlast the rest of the bar IME. Does anyone ever bother to get a new nose on their bar?
  8. I suppose it would depend a lot on which saw needed repairing. I cracked the case on a 3120xp which iirc cost me the best part of £300-350! ( you can't just buy one half, they come as a matched pair!)
  9. As all the above but I would give it more than a quick swill depending on how much oil went in and how long it was in there. It can be very sticky stuff and sometimes the fuel can take a bit of time to break it down( this is my experience from swilling out the oil tank with fuel every now and then on the 020s).
  10. No your not imagining it they did have them on.
  11. Do you have any pics of crabs that fail the LOLER tests? And pics of the destroyed crabs? Just interested to see what damage they have.
  12. I'd be interested too. I remember speaking to someone in the know years ago that also did some test on crabs and found that they became stronger with time.

    Poached eggs

Vinegar in to make it taste nice. 3-4 mins(well I time it by my toaster) at most on a non simmer where the bubbles dont break the surface. Or do the Jamie oliver where you bung it all in cling film with some herbs and stuff, it is a very nice alternative.
  14. Never ever bother with a stud extractor, they dont work unless the stub is proud.
  15. Wasnt it Plato back in 500BC that said something along the lines that the children of toady dont respect their elders etc. It seems that youth has and always will disrespect the elder folks but I think that isnt what is happening 'these days' It IS far worse to the point of inciting violence for the sake of it. I dont think some people really realise what is going on.
  16. Ive seen a few poor attempts, well lots of diesel, hole drilling and old engine oil but still left with nothing less than a charred tree stump that still needed grinding out. I burnt out few alder stumps back in the early days but I dug underneath them, bored through the top and got a nice fire going.
  17. Its sad to see that any thread/conversation/debate involving the word strike shows the huge gap that still exists, always has, and always will between employer and employee. Because an employee decides they dont want to back down shouldnt be frowned upon(and more) especially when there are numerous threads about 'should we lower our prices to compete' and the general consensus is 'no stand tall, dont back down, dont let them dictate, dont undermine our industry, rise above it' etc etc. No one should be 'Lucky to be in a job at these times and put up, or shut up' because im very certain that phrase has been echoed throught the ages and always will. And I certainly cant agree with the 'If you dont like it, go self employeed'!! Is that what we really all need? Lets not forget most of us employers are only here because 'our' previous boss was a tosser. Anyway I panic buyed last week at the merest hint of a strike so have loads of fuel stock piled.
  18. 98.9 at the pump this week! At least there's no panic to buy at the red pumps!! For now.....
  19. You don't need a good axe, you need a cheap axe and a very good digging spade. Or even better still a good stump grinder. Digging out stumps just plain sucks but if your going to do it spend more time digging and undermining the stump than just trying to break it out with an axe. I should know, I've observed people digging out stumps.
  20. Looks really nice. I have one more or less the same and that was what I was going to do with it. Although its sat in the draw for over 10 years. Ill have to try and find which draw though! Are they quite rare then?
  21. I would say you £50 is quite safe to say the least!! Its been 5 years in the planning up to now.
  22. Table looks brilliant and nice info on the laser.
  23. Cheers for the info. I keep meaning to try and make the same style in pine and then give it an antique look. Ill get round to it One day.......
  24. I reckon over the years I have probably spent around 50k with the yellow pages with a return of around £1million+, so yes I'm in total agreement with Skyhuck. I know two companies who did pull out of the yellow pages and it certainly didn't do their business any favours whatsoever, so all I would suggest is don't do what they did unless you have enough work through word of mouth etc or have a good advertising strategy. Unless they do screw up your ad then I don't know why everyone seems to hate YP! You pay x amount and the advert you decide on goes in the book that is posted out to and made available to every uk resident. They have never held a gun to my head when it comes to renewal time.
