    IS this ok

I believe that the recommend minimum length of your tails / ears is 2.5 times the diameter of the rope. Yours are more than that at the moment but they will settle when loaded. Its best to preload any new hitches on the ground before using them. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  3. The long term future of either tree isn't great. They are not currently unsafe however as it will take time for rot to develop on the exposed wood. The trees appear to be reasonably young, perhaps you could fell the multi-stemmed one and keep the other and see how it does. It's hard to give good advice from a photo though. 4. You could also add personal accident cover to your list Ian, theoreticaly if a hired in climberhad PL cover and the main contractor also had PL cover in the event of the climber being injured who pays the compensation? If you are a LTD company then your EL cover covers everyone including the director. If you are a sole treder with EL Cover then only the employees are covered by the EL and the owner must take out his own PA cover (UNLESS AGREED WITH YOUR INSURER). A sole trader climber with his own PL still ought to have PA cover for himself unless he only works for propper businesses with their own EL cover. I don't know why there seem to be so many "companies" out there with no EL cover its not really that expensive. Especially as your insurer will take into account that you may only occasionally hire people in.
  5. Happy birthday, enjoy it. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  6. A blakes is better than a prussik!! and lets face it a blakes isn't great. If you think a prussik is a good performer you need to try some others.
  7. I really dont see why colleges are still set in the stone age teaching candidates hitches that are such poor performers, especially when so many will just stick with what they learned at college for the rest or their working lives. I am not saying we should all be changing our hitches all the time but there many reliable hitches that could be taught to beginners that perform so much better then the two above.
  8. There are so many hitches that are better than either tha blakes or the prussik. For one that is easy to tie and very grippy I'd try the icicle.
  9. No, most dundonians just look like they have rabies...
  10. In Britain it has never found its way into the fox/badger/dog population as it has on the continent. It is found in bats though
  11. Under what circumstances, will you be loading your rope to the point where the choice of knot will be critical? I only ask as the factors of safety that we use (or should use) in arb are so generous that the choice of knot ought to be insignificant.
  12. Dont let it bite you ad, they carry rabies. I think there was a prefessional bat handler killed up here a few years back after he got bitten.
  13. I don't know the answer, but I'd be wary of applying big business ratios to a small firm as they wouldn't necessarily work. For example a big business may consider itself to be doing well if its profits are five percent ot turnover, whereas that wouldn't be good for a one man band. 5% of 20,000,000 is ok for the shareholders, 5% of 80,000 is only 4k, not enough to live on. I'd be interested to know what the general rule of debt/assets/turnover is though. I suspect that what you really need to know is debt to gross profit ratio since that is where any debt interest and repayments will come from.
  14. I wish I had a nice pub in walking distance.... Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  15. I like the ending, goes with the whole mood of the film.
  16. Its weird, I was thinking about it this afternoon, hence my change of avatar. I didn't know it was on, great film though.
  17. Countryside here... I took the pic from my window earlier today. I did live in Bow for a year, worked in the city. I hated it. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  18. If you want to see how to integrate agriculture, forestry, game hunting and the preservation of wild areas go to france. The way they manage their landscape is an example we could learn a lot from.
  19. Velcro... You can buy rolls of the stuff in craft / hardware shops, use a section in your stop. You can experiment with the amount of overlap to get the right amount of breaking force. It should be fairly predictable, better than throw-line. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  20. Working in holyrood park today.Hard to believe we are in the middle of a capital city.... What other city has a wee mountain. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  21. I think theyt all do it, my new one does.... may be a carb thing.
  22. I wouldn't bother, Ireland is in a bad way at the moment. They are not even cuttiung the verges any more, I bet the trees are way down the list.
  23. Its a con. If you want work in a particular sector, then you have to go and find it. By this I mean find out who does the hireing and fireing and contact them....by phone or in person... emails or post/leaflets are a waste of time for this type of work. Its who you know not what you know.
  24. You can do this with tha hobbs, that for me is one of the main reasons for owning one. Whats more you can do it with big bits that might damage the winch on the grcs.
  25. The streight through axle diff broke, he still has it but its an expensive repair I beleive.
