  1. I have a full time vacancy based in the borders / edinburgh, what sort of money are you after?
  2. There are plenty of hitched that can be used like a prussic without the need for a pulley, some can even be tended one handed. I have a Howard hitch with a knut finish on one of my ropes, it works really well. I have posted it on here before. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  3. Those aren't cut an paste errors, they're oil leaks.
  4. Mine has had 147 views but I have only had one response, yet I see threads from guys looking for work all the time????
  5. That's nice Rich, any idea of the reach?
  6. I am looking for a groundworker with chainsaw quals, 30, 31, etc. the more the merrier. The job is based in the berwickshire / east lothian area, salary will be negociable depending on experience. You must hold a full drivers liscence. There will be an initial 3 month trial period. Sorry this is a bit breif, but please call for more details. Thanks Tom 07801 538 717
  7. Someone I know looked into it, you gave to pay back vat on any assets that you still have in the business or have sold within a time period, I don't know the fine detail but it sounds expensive. But then being 20% cheaper could have advantages......
  8. Jesus, If I was the copper I wouldn't have lunged for the camera I'd have decked the annoying git. If you cant do the crime... If I got caught speeding I'd say fair cop and pay the fine. I couldn't be a copper.
  9. The real answer to this depends where you live: in the arse end of nowhere... do what you like, in an area where there are lots of vosa stops...do it by the book...
  10. I don't blame you, I am amazed how little ag contractors charge: £9 an acre + diesel for ploughing????? The must only be making a tenner an hour. I quite fancied the idea of having a tractor, but wouldn't need it all the time so I looked into getting a sidearm flail to keep it busy... till I found out what others charge!!
  11. Get well soon mate, and don't do it again.
  12. 15 mins may have been what your instr.uctor was aiming for, but I am pretty sure that the time allowed on the test is 40
  13. No, and the same could be said for the majority of the cs units, 38 is an exception since the title is climb trees and perform aerial rescue. Like Steve said, a real rescue scenario would require a competent climber. The fact that the nptc are prepared to pass climbers who clearly aren't competent only backs up the argument that this is a form filling excersise aimed at avoiding legal action, if they were really intersted in H&S the course would be more rigorous.
  14. give em a chance.. when I was doing cs41 I acted as the injured climber for a guy re-sitting 38, he took 35 mins to get me down and passed, that was with my surupticious help too.... its a joke really. 15 mins would weed out the totally useless.
  15. I think you are right, however it will never happen it would be impossible to assess a climbers "hours". I have long thought that it is crazy to have supposed "rescue" climbers who can barely climb a tree. Cs38 is FAR to easy to be of any real worth. Candidates are given 40 minutes to perform a rescue, 15 would be a more useful test of a climbers ability. You can't learn to drive by reading a book, and it takes a little time to become a good driver, climbing is no different.
  16. we were looking at replacing our A4 with a small 4x4 last autumn, with all the snow the prices went crazy and we haven't bothered yet. I have test driven the freelander, the kuga, rav 4, and the skoda octavia scout. We have also looked at the volvo xc60 and xc70 the vw something and audi crossover thing. I'd say that all the small 4x4's are quite small inside and had less space than our audi estate, the xc70 scout and freelander are ok though. If you don't mind the space issues then the Kuga is a nice drive, nippy and handles well. The freelander is probably the nicest, but would be heavy on fuel. My favourite is the scout, which feels just like our audi and goes nicely too, has a huge boot and will tow 2 ton. The biggest disappointment was the rav 4.
  17. What's a landi fir?
  18. I have a 24" X 8' oak stick sitting on a site in east lothian if you're intersted, its already on the deck, there is no need to clear up sawdust either. There's 3 or 4 decent syc sticks too but its probably too late in the year.
  19. what hitch are you using?
  20. Somewhere along the way this thread has got a little polarised and perhaps lost sight of my original intention. I should make the point that although some of those argueing for the "tree" have suggested that the "cutters" would tell a client that a tree needs to come down when in fact it does not simply to make money. If that is the case then their loyalty lies with neither the tree or the client. Loyalty to the client is giving them value for money i.e. if no work or little work is required then that is the best course of action. A tree hugger who needlessly installs a bracing system or reduces a tree which could have done without it purely in the name of "the tree" is just as much a charlatan as the guy who tells them to fell it.
  21. On the video speed thing, You tube glitches can speed them up sometimes, I have seen this before. Try watching it again... seemed fine to me.
  22. I used to drive that beast, It wasn't pleasant round town, but I have to say the chipper is awesome.
  23. oak ???
  24. I'm with my Blair on this one, my book keeper is worth her weight in gold, she does invoicing, banks cheques, paye, vat return and keeps everything simple. I just give her receipts once in a while and sign a few cheques and let her get on with it. I'm busy enough already with out all that crap. we use sage accounts BTW
