On 10 stud super singles, so a lot bigger than it looks. 5 tonnes sounds a good guesstimate

A flat pack narrow boat in the 'to do' pile. Not too much pressure as we have a lot to do to re-open the canals.

Not a blow out, but sounds just like a slow puncture.

A stihl chain in 3/8 is sharpened with a 13/64 file. The Oregan equivalent is sharpened with a 7/32 file i believe. I was treated as an odd ball locally when I asked for the 'correct' file, went over the border to Cirencester to get a box of the right ones.

I've tried with a digger mounted breaker, never again. Wood absorbs the impact too well. Would a fire be an option?

That is a lovely series of photographs, well done Tone I have seen bats in a dead ash of about 24" D.B.H. with deep spiral cracks. First spotted deep in a crack at head height, later much higher up. No idea on the species (don't know enough about bats yet)

I think that the guy expects that equipment is maintained in the condition that it was supplied in, to be C.E. compliant it must not cause electrical interferance.

When i'm on clay I carry a road plate that fits into the ditching bucket end on. I use it against the dozerblade or the corner of a track to gouge the bucket clean. It's also really handy for de-bogging.

We should be nice to each other, i'm sure that all of us have learnt lots from here. I would be devastated to try to log on to arbtalk and find it gone due to members lack of appreciation of what Steve has done at his own risk. I think that as well as being nice to each other we ought to show more respect for the effort put into the running of Arb Talk Perhaps we should nominate Mr. Bullman for inclusion in the new years honours list for services to the understanding of trees.

A dozer driver mate had one, he rated it very highly but found that when his D9 was sent to a new construction site it was a real struggle to find a caravan site that would allow a Roma van on.

I have some 19mm double esterlon to splice and want some more robust whipping twine. Yale recomends Size B whipping Twine but I cant find any info on what size B is. Can anybody reccomend a suitible twine and suplier for this. I would like it to be braided twine like on the split tales yale make up themselves. I used zing it throwline to whip mine,seems to work well and the yellow looks good on the blue.

Having your own saw is a good plan as on CS31 you can be sure that it will cut straight.

If the gunge is black and slimy then you have the fuel bug. There are additatives available to kill the bugs easily got from boat chandlers amongst others.

Ringing bells here in the volunteer sector. Even the use of P.P.E. is not properly enforced.

Not too sure of the company name, Twilight could give the idea that you are happy to do what the client wants once the tree officer is tucked up in bed. Of course this could be a money maker, but would be a shame to saddle yourself with a title that you would have to explain away when you are pitching for work in the future. Wish you all the best for the future:thumbup:

They were even nicer in the flesh at the DMM presentation at the AA show! Very rope friendly body and the screw type anchor point would lend itself to a strop large enough to match the possible load imposed by modern lowering ropes:thumbup1:

I've not yet done a pin without using heat, not ideal as the seals that come with the kit get melted. Rubber tracks are ideal on site, the grip out in the woods is far from good:001_tongue:

Spud cannons and acetylene filled balloons, proper boys toys. Must get back to spud cannons, only stopped due to a near miss with a helicopter coming out of a well known estate near Westonbirt Arboretum:blushing:
