  1. Nick Was a pleasure to see you and thanks for the demo gear from fletchers. Hope to see you soon. Paul, it was a combination of my thoughts, my main instructor mutleys fine tuning, and a very talented fabricator and lifting gear inspector based in the unit next door.!!!! if any one would like ot pop by and have a look just give me a bell cheers kev
  2. learn as much as you can evergreen on the job and in the class room. we are holding the first UK european tree worker exam 19/20 of this month. that maps strait over to the isa exam, the two are very similar but do focus on differing topics to the rfs. kev
  3. Hi All Im amazed at thiss thread, and i know there have been similar ones. With regard to the quote about the AA trying to do somthing about this...... The simple answer is yep they have, i was envolved with a group when this firts reared its head many moons ago trying to get clarity..... The Aproved Contractor pannel have also been trying for many years to get clarity and also fighting for exemption on wood chip and log. They have also sought to get clarity on what 'virgin timber is or is not. to some greater or lesser sucsess, and that has all been through the centeral policy unit, as it seems differant offices have difefrant takess on it. And currently they are trying to get some resolve over the WTN issue. that having been said, lets turn this argument on its head. At some point or other most people on here have moaned/slated/critised/sworne about the'*****, jipo, cowboy, new boy with old gear and no idear, the quick profit and run, fly tipping, tax dodging scum' you know the sort of thing. given that we all feel it should be a level playing feild, and given that we all accept that even wood chip if stored in the wrong place in too large amounts can caus damage/ harm how would YOU go about controlling the movment of waste, and how would you make a clear definition of what was waste and what was not???? While i simpathise, it is not always as easy to controll an issue but it is easy to complain. your thought and recomendations to government are welclome kev aka arbocop
  4. Hi davey there is a new product availible in the uk called ecoplug. if you go to www.ecoplug.com it will tell you about it. it uses a glyphosate chemical but because of the method of delivery is much moor affective than the normal liquid aplication. cheers arbocop
  5. This is always the advantage of doing a lantra regestered cource with a lantra regestered instructor. a lot of their training materials are excellent, we use a combination of the lantra materilas and sup;lment with some Husqvarna and orogon materials also. otherwise getting the corroct information is very hit and miss. I find it interesting when you get posts like this just a couple up fromn the one entitled how much did you pay for your CS...... Prehaps the thread title should be @ was you cource value for money?' Anyway good luck with your assessment i hope all goes well, just relax and look upon the assessment as a valuble part of the training.

  7. What about using a split tail and introducing a multi wrap friction knot?
  8. Hi Fozzie Thank you for your feedback. Im really glad your experiance was so good, i work very hard at trying to make sure the team strive to be the best they can be. And they all commit to that aim to. Just sorry we could not stop the rain on the morning of your assessment, but with indoor climbing facilites that should not have hindered things Cheers Kevin Moore, Arbocop
  9. Hi chap we used t o do it every year in southend, as judge said take the seats out and clip in, to start with we used to stack all the rubbish on the top deck, but at the end had a truck n chipper follpow us. we still put a lot of the stuff on the top dec but they aided as a trafic control lot. whe had 2 poles at the front to simulate a full size bus, and cut any thing that got close to hitting it. im sure a quick google would show up buses to hire that are open top, but will it show up ones that will hire it for tee cuting. kev
  10. If you fancy comming east pop over to bts near ipswich kev
  11. 346 xp is a far better saw than the 260 and both similar price. both are pro saws so you will pay the pro saw price you could drop in to the 'farm' sar sector, thats the 2 seris in huski, and 1 in the stilth. although if you can afford it the pro will be a good option. also if you are going to use it inferquntley the trio break on the huski may be a good option. having said that both are qality brands and do give consideration to who your local dealer is, although the 346 is an awsom saw if you have to travel for 3 hours to get a part you will not be happy and visa versa. good ppe is a real must too cheers kev
  12. Hi Big O ben what you will note from al lthe replys you have had is just how complex this is. And as said certain things you oftern 'get away with' but for instanceevery day this week on the a14 between copdoc and stowmarket vosa have been there tugging stuff, particually landrovers and trailers. my council to you is every reginol office has a sligtly differant take on this, and every vosa inspector also has a sligtly differant takeon it. if you are considering going down a rought that will take you in to the relm of the o licenec look up your loal office. give them a ring, explain what it is you intend to do and ask the inspectr to come and chat, they are quite plesent and will help you as much as possible as it will make their life esier in the long run. lots of the advice above is good and acurate, but its the inspector who will procicute you if you get it wrong so ask him. hope that helps kev
  13. The new huski technical boot got it 2 weeks ago and already in love, id bee na die hard hi-axe man for several pairs befor that but OMG its super. kev
  14. Good luck I hope you enjoy. I have one reservation however, the 38/39 if it is 5 days is aimed at experianced people and the recomendatioon for novices is 5 days min for climbing and 2 min for chainsaw rope and harness. some people do very well on the combined 5 day cource but it gives you a lot less bredth of knowlege and experiance as a 7 day cource. having said all that you should not be afraid to say if you feel it is going too quick, but if you keep up great. so good luck and enjoy arbocop

  17. I am a champion of Health and safty, and an exponant of its aplication. I find that i cannot agree with some of the above sentements, but all i would say is the over zelose aplication of HSE and the inability of some parties to recognise individual levels of risk assessment are a threat to any industry, not just arb. one should never stop challenging why, with ref to HSE and accept at least one answer will be 'as it is the law' the moor telling answers are the others you will get when you keep asking why. just a thought kev
