  1. Hello, Im trying to get into forestry work and have been working for a local contractor so have some exerience. Also have got cs 30 and 31 and a btec in countryside managment.. Only trouble is I have no transport due to financial issues. Just wondered if anyone needed a hand on any jobs in the area? On the right job id be willing to work for the experience. Have own saw and ppe. cheers.
  2. Just out of curiosity mate where are you working? Im from mansfield and mainly do forestry/woodland work.
  3. Im in a simular boat mate, just passed my cs 31 and probly on my 3rd day on the saw at work, mainly doing some clearance stuff and genral cleaning up. All for the timber so you have to be fast but Im nowhere near quick enough. Start of labouring for someone stacking and dragging brash and ask if you can fell a few a day for practise, thats what I do, that way you can still be usefull to whoever you work for whilst being safe and not rushing things. Good look matem:001_smile:
  4. Yeah mate I have, just looking for a book to help back up that knowledge and go into abit more detail. Unless Im missing something the nptc ones didnt seem very detailed.
  5. Alright folks, Has anyone got any suggestions for some reading material to help prepare me for cs 30, 31 and 32? I was looking at these... 6. Thanks for the replies, Im 18 years old and live in mansfield in nottinghamshire. I can just about afford equipment for it but training is an issue. Will look into the princes trust and learning for life cheers Anyone had any experience with these? Thanks
  7. Hello, I was wondering if there is any funding availble for cs 30/31? Grants etc... I have been looking into it but havent found anything, is there anything that might be worth looking into? Any advice etc would be appreciated. Cheers
  8. Making it is good fun. We usually make the floor of the kiln with brash, that way your not losing any decent timber when it burns away. We grade the charcoal with a riddle, simular to a potato one but foot operated. Upto yet we have been burning well seasoned birch and the burn times have been about 12 hours, we will be burning green stuff soon so I dread to think how long the burns are gonna be!
  9. How did you find charcoal production mate? Was it a full time venture or just a sideline type thing? I find when we are working with small stuff its alot harder work as aposed to larger firewood sized stuff. Especially carrying it out the wood, small stuff is a pain and falls everywhere!
  10. Best saw yet? might be worth saving up for then!
  11. cheers for the reply mate, Seems like sound advice, moneys tight but hopefully il be able to stretch for it. Cant use colleges saws because Im not a student anymore! Its a costly affair this chainsaw buisness! Might have to buy an axe!
  12. Alright folks, Been working for a charcoal burner, doing some thinning work. It my first job out of college and Im really enjoying it. Saved up just enough money to put my self through my 1st tickets, was wondering if the husky 435 was suitable for the course and for the small diameter stuff we are cutting for the charcoal. cheers in advance for any help
