  1. Hi Hamadryad give me a bell, we were looking at importing the gear, but kept hitting walls to do not with the gear but the legality or using chemicals with that method of introduction, dealing with the CRD is enough to send a mad man saine!!!! cheers kev
  2. PA1 for all pesticide/biocide handling and pa6d, applicator requiring minimal calibration you can do a pa 1 in a day with the eco plug d a quick 3/4 hr add on. kev
  3. Ummm not rally true after all it is a substance, and a poison is defined as any substance when applied in sufficient quantities so as to cause harm t the target organism. and alsas if you spilt enough to be toxic to somting ie a tree that would be Net regs as well as coshh heheheheheheh
  4. Hi All What the HSE says is chainsaws can be used by people who have reached minimum school lever age which is currently 16, but was raised to 17 a couple of years ago, any one who has started secondary school since 2 years ago will leave at 17. so right now you can do the course and we would be happy to have you, we charge very similar to the chaps at kingswood, but we are in suffolk. the issue with colleges is they are often bound by bureaucrats where as us at bts and the guys at kingswood are less bound by bureacrats but cant get access to some of the funding colleges can. sucks really. any way hassel the college or save up a bit. happy times cheers kev

  7. I thought i would re post this under a differant title as i was amased that no one had read my other thread so.......... Hi All Just thought you would like to know that the HSE guidance on training and certification in Arb & Forestry HAs changed. The format of the document has changed a lot and it builds even moor advice about differant training, but some may find this clouds the issue on training rather than makes things clearer. My interpretation is the guidance remains roughly the same prof users should look to separate training and assessment to demonstrate a basic level of ability. the thing that will please a lot of people is there is now a push to comment on proficiency. at bts training we have been doing this for our internal staff assessments for some time, and have recently started making proficiency statements for external candidates. I think this is really useful as we are all aware that a cert of comp is a basic minimum standard, but a 'ticket' does not mean people can do any moor than what they are tested on. proficiency gives guidance on on ability very useful. have a read any questions please dont hesitate to get in touch cheers all afag805.pdf

  10. Thanks Button and Andy. We do our best to get the right balance between cost and quality. We pride our selves on the high success rate but strict adherence to the standards. Other things in our favor are we employ about 150 tree cutters, and the training team still get involved with the operational side of things, also our retail outlet ART gives guaranteed excellent prices to all students. give us a ring cheers kevin

  13. Hi Guys VAT is a really trickey issue and my coments below are not to be taken as difinertive, but Training attracks VAT there are some very specific exemptions but gennerally at standard rate. Assessments for City & Guilds Land Based Services (formally NPTC). the assessor is working for them, all be it under the direction of a local assessment center, but they use CGLDS rules, regs, verifications, assessment sheduels etc, thus they can enjoy the '0' rating of vat (important not exempt but 0 rated). now the link is tenuose and a number of vat officers have been arguing that CGLDS assessments should be vat charged (both b4 and after last election) but if you give them the right info they should go away. a number of assessors and assesment centers have not resisted the vat man and are thus charging vat on assessments, but they dont have to. if you are vat regestered this is not such an issue, but if you are not vat regestered puts an extra 20% on the cost so cheak befor you order....!! at BTS we charge VAT on training at the standard rate but DO NOT charge vat on assessments. hope that helps. on a personal note i think vat on training is not cool, but even less cool is when a lagitimate training establishment like us do not enjoy the same exemptions as colleges, level playing field and all that. kev
  14. PS i would be very interested to see this work
  15. Is one handed use a Health issue??? would the solo acceptence of vibration out put increase the incident of white finger/HAVS??? what about dropping the H&S bit all together. 'Evaluation of Potential Issues to Safety in One Handed use of Top Handles Chainsaws' or 'opinion based appraisal of issues appertaining to the utilization of one handed operation of top handled petrol driven chainsaws and the relative advantages or disadvantages as juxtaposed to personal safety in tree work operations' just rolles off the toung

  18. Having Just fliked through another H V S top handle saw thread i noted the last comment. a mikita 18v cordless??? it got me to thinking... I was instructing a brushcutter cource, and we chatted about the range of battery strimmers there are now, bosh, makit, viking to name but a few. no one could think of any gas powered machines, but there are now true four stroake.. My thought was moor arround the battery chainsaw, and the rising cost of fuel.. would you consider, for day to day pruning swop to a battery saw and if you did what would you say would be ether the posertive / negative point. thoughts as ever welcome. arbocop
