  5. there is a system to go through quite easy but they will cheak who is qualified and send the licenced logo very easy just call them kev
  6. Have fun tractor boy, i would reccomend everything every one above has said, buy the loos wedges avoid the stilth bagged ones, buy an extra ring for eaxh wedge so 2 rings a wedge, get an extra shaft for each wede you have, and i would suggest a min 3 wedges but you can get away with two. if you break the shaft wellcome to the millions befor you, so be prepaired. at home have drill with a resnoble sze bit in it, and a tapered bar, like a pillar drill chuck removing tool to get the remnants out of the head. and above all enjoy your self and listen to your instructor, many people have trouble with 32 as all those little errors in small trees are magnified, and also dont forget you may be doing the new award so big trees and boring MUST be done in assessemnt now were as before you could avoid it. enjoy
  7. i did it when it was all one paper, and my claim to fame is i was the first known dyslexic candidate to take the qual. it is very well respected by those that know it, but wander out side the tree world and it is little herd of. did mine by self studt but had done the cert arb and tech cert before. i would higly recomend a cource of stady and the qualification, but for the long run a degree is worth wile. i also have some forestry and hort quals and i found having this range of knowlege has helped a lot in trees and also in passing exams. at the end of the day though you need to make a choise, as i would also stress the importance of practical experiance. good luck i truly belive education and experiance together just as a point yours vsbmaster K R Moore. MIOSH,MOSJ,F.Arbor.A, MIfL, Cert.Ed, CErt.Arb,Tech.Arb,P.D.Arb
  8. the good news is that is exactly what jason plans when we have the car park sorted out!!!!!! and if you think there are goodies in the shop you should see the wear house, i have to waer a str8 jaket when ever i go out there. did you like the glove section???? a glover for every perpose and every day of the year, yep enough to almost have a differant style every day!!!!!! and as the importer we can offer some great deals!!! but seriously hope you got what you needed kev
  9. The cost of college cources is directly proportonal to the mucked up state of this countries finaces, many colleges are now laying off staff by the bucket load as funding being limited up to 18s and also harder qualifying criteria. in one way im happy as it has always been a grippe that private training providors find it very hard to compete with funded places but in another way its sad as it limits access to education kev
  10. well if they asked for CE numbers you should appeal as that would depend on the manufacturer and the notifying body they us?????? as for EN numbers 397, 1731, 352, 20354 and think that gloves n trouseres are 381 pt1 n 5?? sad hehhh?? i can guess who wrote that question and why as well, one would guess that the marking scheme would have placed more importance on a good description of the 3 types of desine and also speed ratings wit there relative use rather than rew spouting numbers. as for the first aid question, again i think that will be structured arround the rules and regs quoted on the cylibus as they mention a number of best practice. as with any exam though if you know the answer its easy, if its the area you have not studied or dont know too well its not. dont be dishartened try again you will do better next tiem kev
  11. Hi Chap I have no idear how old you are but if i were you id do the uni rought, ive done the vocational rought, got all sorst s of quals including p.darb, but some how would love to have done a degree kev
  12. Guys just think, you run a company, you have people who have at least 5 years experiance, well trained and certifcated, have had regular updates, carry a full range of kit, you have your office produce paperwork, you have marketing, you advertise, you equip, you have archiving, insurace electric, gas, vehicles, machinery costs, site costs etc. how much would you want to ern as a minimum each day?????? with out ESI instructor/assessors we have to start at 300 a day and go up so our chainsaw lot are cheap by comparison.

  16. to leggaly work 'on the highway' you need an appropriate qualification ie NRSWA unit 2 or SSC12 if you hsave thst qual you will know where to find the answer, every year many workers are killed and seriously injured at road works, forget chainsaws it is dangeouse out there. if you need help finding a trasining providor for NRSA mail me we can help kev

  18. this has insdeed been covered before in a nut shell ppe is the lowest for m of control in the hiarachy of risk, it is not fool proof and is the weakest of all controls even if you take some class 3 trouseres got them dirty and oilly and then stuck an 044 or 357 et al in to them you would not enjoy the end result. remember last line of defence kev
  19. beal do a stiched termination on their jane lanyard which is a dynamic rope. other than that thats all i can suggest kev

    chain sharpening

Hi U1000 have you been trained to mainain your saw??? i ask as your questions are those that usuallr arise from people who have not been shown how to get the right info for the sharpening. as for file guides, interesting point, that has become corrupted over the years, there is no 'you must use a guide to sharpen' ruke in NPTC lantra, edexcel etc. what the rule is is you must get top and side plate angles gorrect, internal lay of the cytter correct, must not damage the tie straps, and must get depth gauges to the correct height. if you do all ot that the ting will cut. assessors cheak angles tooth lengths etc, so the easiest way for aninexperanced person to be consistant with that is with a file guide, but it is not mandotory. as to your chain going blunt quickly i see you have been asked if your timber is clean and away from the floor but what condition is your bar in is your machine oiling correctly and are you using a quality chain i had some carlton stuff once as it was cheeeeep worst chain i ever used blunted too quick also as a though if you are cutting 2 year old hard wood and some pines are you using a chisel or a semi chain, with hard seasoned wood you will loos the working edge soo quick and semi would suit you better just soem thoughts kev
  21. I love this thread let me turn the question on its head a bit, regardless of if you the primary, first best climber uses them, do you have them availible??? I ask cos i love ladders, be them a single step up for changing a fuse or a decent set of triples or heven henchmans for that headge but regardless of that the rescue climber is usually on lots of sites, the 2nd climber, not as good as you climber???? if we think about planning for a rescue, you may be able to foot lock like a rocet ( me its moor like a pregnat whale footlocking) but what about your rescue climber how quic is he???? just a though kev
