  1. you seam to have a winch rope strung across a road/track between a tree and a stuck Land Rover, to top that off you have the rope at cyclist, bike, car occupant height and then to top that off even more you have nothing to make the which rope clearly visible to any road/track user to stop them and seemingly no one stood on the road/track to stop users etc. I have to say regardless of it being a public road or a private track I am truly shocked at the danger potentially posed to others needlessly

    Libya

This is not “involvement in peace keeping missions” it is interfering with a state which is trying to put down unrest caused be resent events in that region and a small uprising that has been perpetuated by the west into something much bigger than it EVER would have been given the extremely public statement by the USA when it first started to offer “any type of help to the rebels” and to spin the military pulling back to avoid civilian bloodshed (as would happen if the military was to hold its ground) given the Libyan military had a very limited RoE however this was spun by the Americans etc as being Libyan military in disarray which was obviously not the case by the way they have sweped back the other way when the Libyan government have had no option but to restore public order. Just remember it is the rebels/terorists who are held up in conurbations using unarmed civilians as a shield or if you start running around with stolen assault rifles or mount machine guns to your vehicle or tow AAA cannon and use all of them agenised military, police officers and members of local government or pro-government supporters/civilians etc then you have well and truly stopped being a civilian yourself and are well and truly entered the realms of being a legitimate military target. I wander what the end result would be if e.g. 300 "civilian" (rebels/terorists) men armed with everything from assault rifles to AAA cannon were to encamp near Westminster would be if they were shooting at MP‘s, police, civil servants and members of the military? A military response no doubt.

    Libya

Personally its about time politicians in this country had they powers curtailed in all cases bar an immediate military threat the UK so the silly police actions and the likes of Iraq and Afghanistan could only have happened with a referendum. As for Libyan opposition I am afraid you lose you civilian status when you start using stolen assault rifles or mount machine guns on your vehicle or don some military clothing or tow around AA guns, thus you become a legitimate military target.
  4. that’s precisely the type of statement that could substantially weaken your patent claim/registering.
  5. If you wanted a winch for a digger then be aware your average 4x4 hydraulic winch wouldn’t be strong enough in its structural design ratio. Diggers even 1.5t will output more pressure & flow than a leyland 262, so would work better powering a hydraulic winch and would be quite fast as with a higher pressure you can use a smaller cc motor so you LPM make the motor turn faster when under no/part load, however if you got a winch second hand you would almost certainly have to put the correct pressure motor on it as most will be in the 135bar to 160bar range rather than in the >205bar <260bar range that digger are at. If you do find a suitable hydraulic winch then old ditching buckets make good structure’s for housing winches in with the fairlead in the back of the bucket so it can be used at any height/angle and its easy enough to weld permanent spade lugs on the bucket base for high force pulls low down or if you need to do a high force pull from higher up with a smaller digger you can always cut the top part out of a tree to rest the bucket on.

  7. if it has ABS then there must be some form of "phonic wheel" at each wheel/hub to tell the ABS system what that wheel is doing. if it doesn’t have ABS then you wont have phonic wheel" at each wheel/hub. Other than that I cannot help.
  8. First off you need to work backwards from the wire rope to the motor. e.g. 6000kg pull on the lowest rope layer vs. drum radius vs. torque unit length so you can calculate the required drum torque using lbft or NM etc. Then divide that drum torque figure by 47 (gearing ratio) to give you the required torque, add >5% <10% to that figure for drive losses, you then end up with a torque figure the motor must output at or just before it stalls. Once you have a torque figure for the motor you need to find one that dose that torque figure at stall when using 2600psig pressure and that 38LPM is within the working flow range. 2600psig @ 38LPM is only ~11.4FHP so whatever you make its not going to be very fast under full load even with your tractor at high rpm unlike how it would be if run via a more conventional PTO shaft method. Also you may well need a motor with an internal brake if you do away with any ratchet etc

    Oops...

Looks like the axel U-bolts have snapped mainly on one side due to the common problem of coming lose which then pulled the prop shaft apart along with all the damage that both ends will do as they flail
  10. if you read the BFF link you will see is doesn’t back up the salesman, also do you believe someone who is a salesman I have a letter from TMC UK saying that towing over 2250kg could void any warranty which is why the brochure has a stated towing weight of 2250kg & a GTW of 5190kg, the only way you can tow 2800kg and to stay under the 5190kg GTW is by NOT putting any load on the Hilux its self so keeping it under 2390kg VW (which the Hilux Double and Extra Cab are homologated in the UK to do BUT TMC do NOT recognise these “local“ test hence the brochure & warranty situation), after all the Hilux has its own GVW of 2940kg. its one thing to say as a salesman yes you can tow 2800kg however by omitting making you aware of the provisos in that anything you tow above 2250kg MUST be subtracted from the Hilux payload to stay within the 5190kg GTW or that if your driveline goes bang TMC may refuse to repair under warranty because you didn’t adhere to their towing/GTW recommendations shows he is only telling you what you want to hear rather than the full facts which would sway most people if they knew that.
  11. Mines with NFU. Agricultural tractor insurance: Just remember if you just do domestic/LA/etc arb work then that is contracting, as is forestry unless you are harvesting trees that belong to you, there for your percentage of turn-over derived from contracting is high when calculating premiums, but if you fail to include the appropriate percentage of turn-over derived from contracting you run the risk of the NFU or other insurers asking to see your accounts and refusing to pay out if you don’t. The contracting percent has quite a big affect on premiums.
  12. powered winches for lifting would be hoists.
  13. Ibbets its just down the road from Downham Market! As for getting the engine out its not a very long job provided you have the right tools which some of us have.
  14. And what are you thinking of in putting a first aid kit with a fuel/oil can! It is hardly wise either at a chemical or hygiene level
  15. The PTO (540/1000) can have starter interlocks as can the high speed gearbox mounted “fast” PTO, so if any of them are partly engaged it will stop things being started off the key. With respect to the PTO interlocks there is a fuse for it, if it blows or has a bad connection it will stop things starting off the key too and will light up the relevant PTO stub icon warning light on the dash (if the bulb is working) as if the PTO is permanently engaged. So make sure all PTO’s are in the off/disengaged/neutral position, check fuses and as others have said check the clutch pedal start interlock switch is working.
  16. I never had one, I wouldn’t have one as they restrict getting under things and if you shorten them to much it makes it noisy/smoky in the cab, that’s besides the extra noise of the exhaust pulses travailing up a pipe much closer to your ear!
  17. err its NO, as not all red diesel will be DERV with red dye in, red dye and being ULS dose NOT make them the same, you have fundamental things like cetane rating which differ and it cost more to make fuel with higher cetane ratings. under the old BS 2869 & BS EN590 system you had: ULSD = DERV to BS EN590 @ >CN51 ULSGO = DERV with red dye in to BS EN590 & BS 2869 A2,D @ >CN51 Gas oil = red to BS 2869 A2,D @ >CN46 under the new system you have: ULSD = DERV to BS EN590:2009 @ >CN51 ULSGO = DERV with red dye in to BS EN590:2009 & BS 2869:2010 A2,D @ >CN51 ULSGO = red to BS 2869:2010 A2,D @ >CN46 gas oil = red to BS 2869 D @ >CN46 At the moment in the UK there is a shortage of refining capacity for gas oil so more DERV is being used to make red diesel which has pushed the price up of both DERV and gas oil (in addition to world oil prices) as that is only a stop-gap wile refineries have been switching over to production of ULSGO of >CN46 which just conforms to BS 2869:2010 A2,D & NOT BS EN590:2009 as per the other original ULSGO which has been on sale for many years.
  18. or like this,
  19. The last 190 tracked flywheel I see the price for was £1600 that included the stub-shaft etc it runs on, also taking an old flywheel off and fitting a new TW190 flywheel & stub-shaft is not exactly a slow job and should be easily done in under a day, as ware the £6k price tag if from I don’t know but they (LA) are either lying about the cost or the LA is being stiffed on the parts and labour cost
  20. I would say it’s a bit of a mix of to ridged design and a bit of operator error in not placing enough load on the front legs when up &/or having the front of the land rover up-hill when on modest slopes regularly. Its surprisingly common on trucks when truck cranes are fitted because the sub-frame has been made to ridged and the vehicle gets flexed a lot off-road etc.

    Td5 problem

the MAF and the Injector harness for in the head are ~£35 on ebay etc for new ones

    Td5 problem

The MAF sensor on my td5 dose nothing, my old one broke and I didn’t relies until I got a nanocom, then got a working MAF sensor just to see and it made no difference even though its confirmed as working and my td5 runs very well considering its standard regardless of if the MAFs is working, disconnected or removed lol
