  1. I'll be using my for everything except take downs...201T with a 14" bar for that. This little saw boxes well above its weight and I haven't tried any smallers saws that come close to it.
  2. I've been on a Petzl swing for a couple of years now. I love it. If you like a'sit' harness this is great, all the weight is off your hips. Downside, its a pure 'climb' harness and on the ground its like having a plank strapped on your 'arris!. It can slip a bit with a bit saw..just do it up tighter .
  3. thats good news Buzzlet
  4. some sound advice on this thread. At then end of the day, we all worry too much about what other people charge and do. Price for you think is right, do the job as best as you can and treat your staff with respect...if its worth doing, its worth doing well...
  5. ' would rather work 3 days a week for a professional rate than 5 days a week for maybe the same total profit (or maybe less depending on variable costs).' ..that hits the nail on the head for me...that and 'being busy isn't being successful' I work 4 days a week and spend the 5th pricing and catching up in the office...its very easy to fall into the 'busy fool' trap
  6. Both of my Landies earning their keep
  7. was rigging a Poplar (the usual suspects I hear you say! ) and I ended up having to share a pollard head for my anchor and the rigging anchor. I cut a lump out (which in hindsight was too big). The pollard head ripped in half, the lower block and anchor sailed over my right shoulder just missing my head. The lowered limb just missed the groundie using a Hobbs..as did the anchor point and block. The second groundie held on to the tagline for grim death and was dragged across a cemetery, between several headstones. My climbing anchor stayed intact...just. Under the tree were several headstones and a spiked iron railing fence. Nobody hurt, nothing broken...lesson (re)learned...
  8. my mate had tow hitch on the back of his 10" farmi on a mog for years and pulled an Ifor 16' trailer without any probs for years.
  9. Been using my mates 150 all day today, what a superb little saw!. Re-pollarding Limes - the perfect saw for it. I used a silky on cuts near my line etc, all the rest I used the 150 on. Plenty of power and a small guide bar (almost like a carving bar) which enables you to get into cuts you'd normally use a handsaw for. The weight seems to be half that of a 201 (I'm working on an injury at the moment...it was MUCH easier) and the fuel consumption is a lot less than an MS200T. Great for pruning...I'm getting one next week
  10. they've been bleating about Mogs for decades...anything to stop a bloke working, eh?. I ran one for 5 or 6 years and never had any problems....just more obstacles for us to overcome I guess....
  11. A mate of mine caught a gang of thieves in his yard at 2000hrs the other night. They were just about to take his truck (with mounted TW125 and 18m tracked MEWP. Cheeky sods, he was sitting there watching TV with the curtains open and they STILL had a go!. Thankfully, all he suffered was damage to the truck (they bypassed his alarm AND immobiliser) Watch out Essex!
  12. run on red with no O licence or HGV...and never get taken alive!
  13. have used a couple...awesome machines. Very heavy but everything you need to get to is accessable. One of the ones I used had a winch fitted and was a very useful bit of kit
  14. excellent, this is on my list of things for this year. You must be as deaf as a post mate!
  15. Gnaeus Porcius Severus I think I'll stick with Spikus Maximus, us Centurions have reputations to uphold!
  16. 'You fallen down the stairs again? I heard that from over here!' not down the stairs Geoff, he's just tested my line before I go up and taken a terrible tumble out of the garden, down the stairs and out into the road! Thanks Felix, glad I didn't ascend on that anchor!
  17. what a pisser...I hope it turns up mate, nothing worse that being parted from your whole climbing kit....
  18. 'Another much more simple one, wait untill the guy up the tree isn't looking and crawl under the nearest large branch and lie very still. Had this done to me and very nearly sh@t myself..' you mean like this mate?
  19. stihl Kombi is superb..and it fits in the back of the wagon no probs
  20. I would be interested to see a comparison with an MS200T/201T..those little husky T435's are clockwork powered aren't they? Looks like a great little tool for light reductions/thinning...etc...I'd be interested to give one a whirl...
  21. great drill...horrible music!
  22. Rockapes!...AKA the SRDG (short range desert group)
  23. mine is £120 a day before wages..I put depreciation for the trucks and saws on this too. I've been working hard to keep overheads to a minimum...its the wages that kill it...my blokes are worth every penny I pay them..pay peanuts = get monkeys
  24. the problem with ex-Army goretex, is its DPM (camouflage), I've had a couple of near misses wearing it...a hi viz is a must. The Navy stuff has pockets and is much harder wearing..heres me enjoying a bit of Suffolk weather in it!
  25. gulp...just got quoted £918 for a 130 tipper with Aviva...the cheapest I've had is £850. I've got a Disco commercial insured at £580 at the mo (with another named driver), they've just quoted £781!. insurance...what a scam
