  1. 'Oh, the way the wind whistles up the pass!'
  2. this is more like it!
  3. Once a Knight always a Knight!
  4. I think the class divides are still there, more so than in any other country I've been to in the world. The difference is, today you can change the class your in...in either direction!. There is also an 'underclass' of people who can't/won't work for various reasons...this is a massive burden on the working and middle classes...obviously the upper classes don't feel a thing!....I'm working class but like to think of myself as more of a 'fighting peasant'!
  5. ..ha ha, they always make me laugh...I can't see the Turks being scared my this lot!
  6. ...sounds like you spent too much time polishing your woggle Felix!
  7. outstanding levels of bullshit!...they took everything we taught them during the Raj years and added a bit of chilli to it....however, I raise you with a vid of the Spanish Foreign Legion...the fastest mincers on the planet! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WRrx-ewVRU]La Legión - Spanish Foreign Legion - YouTube[/ame]
  8. [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/MEDICAL-medical-quality-silicon-vibration/dp/B001M0A2LE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361898651&sr=8-1]Neo G MEDICAL GRADE GOLF & TENNIS ELBOW STRAP with medical quality silicon insert, to dampen vibration: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors[/ame] tried one of these and it cleared it up within a week tennis elbow usually goes hand in hand with climbing on a prussik without a cambium saver!...I switched to a ropeguide and lockjack years ago and I don't suffer injuries like this anymore. A lighter pruning saw can make a hell of a difference too...you need to change whatever work practice is causing you the injury mate
  9. My eldest lad.... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhYa009Pmiw]I'm a Banker - Doogie Hunter ft Us and Her - YouTube[/ame]
  10. So true...having been both a freelancer and a Company owner before, I've had both sides of this. I'm very lucky to only get in climbers who I have worked with before....I've never had to 'chance it' on a job to see how good or bad they are. As for freelancing...I've had a few unpleasant surprises over the years..some from supposedly good companies.. who have turned out to be very poor. Its harder if your just starting out...if you know any experienced climbers..phone and ask for their opinions before you get up a tree for them......I've also had times when work has been slow and I've had to take risks to earn a days money..no aerial rescue, uninsured, no traffic control, groundies with no tickets, PPE etc...its a hard call....work or don't pay the mortgage. This has been a big factor in my starting up my own business again...I can do things the way I want to do them...and not end up getting shafted doing it!
  11. bwa ha ha!...they are learning new things every day
  12. ha ha!, nice one goaty!...they do work well as a team...but my eldest lad is better with a Ukelele!
  13. I wasn't referring to their mental state mate!
  14. hmmm, I view NPTC tickets in two ways; when hiring staff, you know they are at an acceptable level to gain experience in the job (if they got both - result) 2. It means they are qualified to do the job - in the eyes of insurance companies/local authorities etc. Having tickets does not mean you can DO the job...that comes from experience. Too many people expect too much from people who have just done a 5 day course or so!. Lets face it, who is going to be proficient with a chainsaw in 2 days?!
  15. My twin boys are 17 and have their CS38, they get £60 a day. They'll get £80 a day when they get their CS30. My grown up groundie gets £100 a day, he has his tickets, drives and is a damn good chap!. Got to look after your groundies fella's!...that said, I've sacked a good few!
  16. ha ha that made me laugh Mick!
  17. tickets are just pieces of paper at the end of the day. Take 1/2 a day out, practice aerial rescue with the blokes you work with, using the kit you climb with......then get down the cafe for a full English!. Everyone should know where the first aid kit is, the phone is, the rescue kit is..and where the RA is. Lets face it, if we don't prepare for these situations, when they happen are YOU confident your blokes can get you down/YOU can get your mate down?...it would be hard on you for the rest of your life if your found out that you couldn't.....
  18. I haven't noticed any probs with vibration..no more than anyother top handle. The 201T is better than average though.
  19. anybody like a drop of rum?...having read this I'm off for a cheeky little Kraaken rum...what a lovely drop...cheers!
  20. I had to fell these dead willows in a lake a few years ago. They were near a footpath on a nature reserve. Access was by boat and I wore a lifejacket, it was interesting...as was the risk assessment!
  21. just get your speedo's and snorkelling kit on and go for it mate!
  22. ...but its pants....I used one for a day and was glad to give it back
  23. I never wear chainsaw gloves unless I'm being assessed/training. I like the look of the Lidl offerings though!. As has been said, the are class 0..not going to do much against a 25m/s chain...safe handling is the best protection you can get. Keep your hands warm with a pair of gripper gloves and save yourself a few quid mate...
  24. spent New Years in the Orkney Islands years ago...now THEY can drink whiskey!. I tried some lovely stuff up there. These days, I quite like a 'Low Flyer' now and then and I got myself a bottle of Drambuie (whisky liqueur) this Xmas and it was luverly!
  25. I would say July/August for the Walnut...and just after you've sharpened your saw for the Beech
