    Hi-viz

a neighbour asked one of the lads for a quote whilst I was up a tree the other week...I got down and went to see him during a break...with an orange hi viz on...he went to take my clipboard from me and said 'Oh!, I thought you were the postman!'
  4. look at this beauty!..also in a Beech in a council owned park
  5. my little girl, a few years ago, went to a wedding with my Mrs. In an acutely quiet moment, before the ceremony got going, she picked up the order of service and loudly asked....'Mummy, whats a hymen?' my missus asked her where she'd read it....'its hymn love'...que chuckles from the congregation
  6. Some of the work I've done for the Wildlife Trust. We've tried to retain these Beeches for as long as possible, monolithing and pollarding where we've been able to. We ended up felling the worst of them this year...Kretschmaria Deutsta and Meripilus Giganteus working in perfect harmony combined with busy footpaths which can't be re-routed. When I cut the top out of the oak, it split a bit more than I anticipated, scaring the hell out me and creating this lovely bit of habitat..
  7. had my digs in Woodbridge for 6 weeks when I did my city and guilds at Otley college...lovely little town
  8. thanks fella's...I'm as green as grass when it comes to this stuff!..I'll get my eldest lad on the case and pass on your advice...
  9. I thought they could already do this?...its tough...buy something big and it will off set your tax liability...and hope the work doesn't run out....
  10. In my opinion, NPTC units are a certification...not a qualification...after all, its a maximum of a 5 day course!. A Level 2 City and Guilds in Arboriculture was a 6 week full time course, with 3 months home study and a written paper. Its only a craft level qualification...but it is that...a qualification...NPTC are just confusing the issue for people selecting a 'qualified' arborist. The other issue is, a lot of companies are advertising 'NPTC certified staff' when the owner/climber of the company is the only one with a ticket...'staff' means the whole crew fellas!
  11. I extended my chipper chute on my TPO, front mounted Schliessing 105 years ago. We had lots of problems with blockages. The first was that we used light ali tubing, which soon formed a lip and blocked...once we went of the a removable piece of light steel, this stopped happening. The other was, the blades had to be spot on, we changed them every month. A wet day in conifer or willow and a blockage was almost guaranteed. Unless your chipping over a cab or something..I would concentrate on the chipbox rather than the discharge chute..maybe put a 1/2 roof on it?
  12. I passed my City and Guilds with a distinction, years ago. Am I the only one that gets peeved by 'NPTC City and Guilds qualified' stickers?. Its great that NPTC units can count toward a formal qualification, but it does imply that the holders of units already have it. Is this a justified gripe or am I just bumping my gums?
  13. I find being near the chipper and having a dusty road on the way to my yard, mine sucks in all sorts of crap..the filter needs shoveling out on a regular basis..can't understand why they've put the air intake by the left wheel ?....must get a snorkel fitted
  14. the lads on the coffin party did an excellent job.
  15. I'm liking that snorkel mate
  16. those outriggers are coming off to make room for a couple of boxes mounted on the chassis...I like to keep saws/fuel climbing kit etc apart...and out of the chip box
  17. Rob..disco's are lovely to drive...I haven't had a Defender/110 for quite a few years now, this one has reminded my how 'straight up and down' they are...it does exactly what is says on the tin...and no more...no frills in that cab!
  18. if it was near a path that couldn't be re-routed, I'd drop it...bat inspection notwithstanding!
  19. the tyres are particularly horrible!...my disco's got BFG MT's on and boldly goes where the 130 fears to tread!
  20. thanks Steve..I've got plenty of time this week..work is lean and pricing is very, very keen here at the moment....hence kick-starting the website !
  21. thanks fella's this is what I need..doing a bit of research into this tonight
  22. ah right..thanks mate, I'll look into it...
  23. like that? thanks Steve! I've got the Yell.com woman coming over tommorow, I can link into my website via that and pay more for 'weighting' the listing...didn't get much work from the pages last year, so I'm going to have a line ad in the book and go for a better Yell listing...anyone had any luck doing this?
  24. not having much luck with the search function..anyone know how I can bump up my website locally on a search engine?...keep it simple, I'm not much of a computer geek!...
