  1. the problem with ex-Army goretex, is its DPM (camouflage), I've had a couple of near misses wearing it...a hi viz is a must. The Navy stuff has pockets and is much harder wearing..heres me enjoying a bit of Suffolk weather in it!
  2. gulp...just got quoted £918 for a 130 tipper with Aviva...the cheapest I've had is £850. I've got a Disco commercial insured at £580 at the mo (with another named driver), they've just quoted £781!. insurance...what a scam
  3. looks like Aviva is the way to go. All this makes me think...Arbtalk is a great medium for things like this, I wonder if we can use this to lever things like insurance?. Its all a bit 'hit or miss', insurers seem to think they can charge what they like (have you ever know your premium to stay the same from last year?). The insurers could be influenced by all of us working together when asking for quotes...just a radical idea!
  4. ha ha!, btw, if anyones messaged me today, I deleted it!
  5. every days a school day, today I learned how to delete my inbox/outbox By the way, I put my viagra in my chainsaw boots to make me limp!
  6. Good point Mog...using a saturated/semi frozen rope on a lockjack the other week was a bit hair-raising..went through a pair of gloves in just one climb!...sometimes a 6 wrap prussik or a blakes with an extra turn in it does the trick on a slippy rope....or...stay at home and get skint!
  7. take off his sump nut, drain his oil into a container and hey presto...his engine seizes up...don't get mad, get even. If the Police don't act on info like this, then you have to deal with it yourself
  8. the 'honey' is a model he got in. It was a quiet a cold day by all accounts! Maybe I should get her in and get her draped over the chipper hopper?
  9. the prussik look will never become extinct...because there will always be climbers that won't spend money on climbing aids and who can't remember how to tie anything else (that said, I use them when I climb both ends of my line! )
  10. Just got back in touch with an old mate...and looks what he does!! Tiki Paulo - Home
  11. that looks like a nice one!
  12. crooked?...about 50% or more of firms out there have no tickets or insurance...if your freelancing only work for people you know. Some of these people get you in because they are not capable of doing the job themselves...fair enough...but you have to think about insurance and aerial rescue/first aid...have they got it?...could they do it if the brown stuff hit the fan.?. As for not getting paid, its never happened to me (not by a tree company that is). Had a mate who got knocked in Manchester years ago. He turned up on site, dropped the Boss and took an MS880 in payment!...ouch!
  13. get on ebay, get a Royal Navy goretex jacket £25 jacket about same for trousers. Never let me down. had mine for about 3 or 4 years, its had heavy climbing use. I've washed it and treated it with Nikwax goretex treatment and it hasn't let the rain in yet Royal Navy Foul Weather Gore-tex Jacket with Hood 170/104 | eBay
  14. thanks fella's lots to mull over there. I'm not to worried about customers who don't recognise the phone code..if they're that far away, I don't want to be driving there!. I'll pass these tips on to my lad
  15. I use one every day, my left wrist has only got a couple of years worth of climb left in it...if I don't use one it HURTS!
  16. as fungi goes, its deffo one of the pretty ones!..always looks like it would be quite tasty..not that I'd fancy trying the stuff myself!
  17. I keep them under my pillow mate!
  18. thanks fella's...I've never read the whole poem Mark, just got the quote of the net somewhere!..thanks! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUpawNZNJfQ]"Vitaï Lampada" by Sir Henry Newbolt - YouTube[/ame]
  19. constructive criticism (or otherwise!) welcome . My eldest son just set this website up for me http://www.hunterandsonstreeservices.co.uk
  20. eye to eye sling does the trick. If you loop a sling thru it and it catches the toggle in it, your on the way down the rope and off to A and E!
  21. love my 201..did have to get it re-tuned after about 6 months and it doesn't like Aspen..apart from that, its a great saw
  22. Sequoia swing for me. Most comfortable harness for crown work by far, fine sectioning down..but awful in conifers and hedging!...then its Willans time!
  23. they work together much better than they live together mate!...when they were little, I used to stick 'em out in the back garden with headguards and boxing gloves and let 'em fight it out
  24. ...of course being twins..they do have their 'Ronnie and Reggie' moments!
  25. my twin boys on their CS38 last summer..CS30 and chipper ticket coming up soon
