Top out ASAP or leave until last - mass damping, inertia etc
Rich Rule replied to AHPP's topic in General chat
I think it depends on the weather and situation. I will often get the top out first if it feels like the weather it picking up. Rigging the top in strong wind off a tall pole can banjo you about, big style. -
We had a jobsworth, I mean HSE, turn up onsite once. I was up a big oak tree and all the kit was laid out on the garden. Spill mat for the fuel etc. Rescue kit and first aid and all the RA and MS in a waterproof folder. Pretty much a perfect site. Mr HSE starts going through everything and cannot find a problem, apart from one of the saws. Which happened to be one of my ported saws. He picked up on the fact that the stickers were missing. OMG shock horror, no stickers! The company owner just said, that is the guy up the trees saw, he is from the North and very grumpy. No one else is allowed to touch his saws let alone start them. The HSE said ok and went on looking for more problems which he didn’t find.

Whilst I agree giving a modified saw to an employee could turn nasty. What’s not to like about a ported saw? Lighter saw, less fatigue and overuse injuries. More power, less likely to barber chair or split out on you. I think a lot of saws are underpowered for manufacturing and environmental reasons. That is why I refused to use the first generations of 201t. They were borderline dangerous IMO.

Anyone else just fed up of customers at the moment

if you think that is rough, want to hear the kicker? That is for two seats only. Commercial vehicles have the rear seats removed and you get quite a few tax benefits. If you were wanting to have the seats in the back you are looking about 850 k NOK plus depending on options. -
Mrs going srt kit advise please.

I have one of these but yet to climb on it. I have quite a few friends who climb on it and rave about it. SO for just less than a hundred knicker, ex vat. I gave it a shot. Also, I live in Norway and knew Brexit wouldn't help my plans to get kit from the UK so even though I didn't need it, I put in a big order in December. Courant Squir V2 Red 60m | Honey Brothers HONEYBROS.COM Courant Squir V2 Red 60m from Honey Brothers. The largest equipment specialist in the tree care industry. -

Why wouldn't you tell them you have cash? It always used to be that way, cash up front and drive away with a bargain. -

Just no, you will never stick with SRT. That rope is so bouncy. Something with minimum elasticity would be so much better. -

Might I add, they were more than happy to sell me the truck I had already leased from them for 3 years. I only bought it as it was a very good deal and extremely low milage due to having almost a year off through injury. Also I would have to wait a good few months till more 2.8's are in stock. The ones coming in now are all taken and were ordered around October and November last year. -

I am well aware of the differences. Finance from A N Other provider to buy the vehicle outright Or a lease plan. Or purchase with hard earned pennies. Over here they still have to apply for finance for the term of the lease plan. Either way the point is they don't want to sell me the truck, and are steering me towards leasing the vehicle. Even When I asked about Hire Purchase they just adjusted the figures for a lease plan to bring the residual value down to zero, so effectively buying it... yet not being able to have it as a Asset to my company. That is my point, the salesman gets more commission for a Lease contract than any other so they try and steer you in that direction. Then at the end they actually said if I walked in with the 650000 Nok in a bag they would sell it to me for list price and zero discount. -

I am having the same trouble here Jay. They can offer me a better deal apparently if I finance or lease. More like more commission for the salesman. I am trying to get the new 2.8 Hilux, after leasing for 3 years. I ended up buying my present motor from Toyota finance and will trade up to a new one when they are readily available. They just make excuses if I mention purchasing the new truck from them. Even offered a lease purchase that over the term reduced the residual value to zero, so effectively buying it. Whenever I ask about a deal to buy the truck with money, regardless where it comes from just not a lease plan... they just say I shouldn’t bother as they can’t give me any discount and List price all the way. The world’s gone topsy turvy! -
I would like to know Steve.

It was 10 years ago mate. Might be too long ago to remember or find the results.

A lot of Spruce have been declining and eventually dead in Norway. GranBarkbille of Spruce Bark Beetle is the cause. Noticed some blue staining but not as much as that. Pretty obvious when the beetle has been through. Dead trees, loss of bark and similar markings as you would find in Dutch Elm diseased trees.

I use one of those and it is great. Very light, strong and multiple uses. Just wish I had bought a couple more when I got my RRPro. -

Personally I would avoid some of the kit you mentioned. Better options out there. The courant Squir rope from honey brother is an excellent SRT rope, very little stretch and cheap. 60m for about a hundred quid. I would go for 60m over 45. You can always leave some in the bag but to max out a 45 metre and have to attach another is a right royal PITA. If you have a foot ascender then great, use it. Get a RW and stiff tether and it can work with your existing Hitch climber and hitch. Or buy new, up to you. You will need something to help ascend your hitch. I use the 4srt Chester. But for years I just used a Lyon tape sling like a ruck sack and a krab at the front. You might want to get some form of knee ascender? I have the Haas Velox. It works a treat. For a couple of years though I used a home made one. There are other available. Decent throw line and throwing skills is a great help for setting lines and pre-directs. Ie throwing from a particular position to go through a specific fork to start the work in a tricky area. Ie work in the way up rather than go all the way up to get an anchor first. A couple of slings and krabs for redirects. KISS. Just means they are usually non retrievable. So you have to go back up, or use natural crotches for redirects. The beauty of SRT is you can be a kit junky and make it as complicated as your ego need (Just for Insta likes) or as simple as you need. I keep it simple. As for the plethora of info in the web, your right and there is so much to watch/choose to learn. Maybe check out the Schultz effect. It costs about 40usd and is an extremely comprehensive SRT information resource. Plus it has hundreds of hours of footage to put it together. Sometime it is nice to support the smaller guys in the Industry. Hence the reason I would avoid some of the manufacturers you mentioned in your post. I prefer to give the money and credit to the original manufacturers and not the ones who see a good idea and then copy it, often not to the same standards of quality. -
O dear, O dear. There is no club. Whenever someone questions your methods or disagrees with you, you spit your dummy. This isn't the first time. This is an observation and not a personal remark.
-
A bit of old throw line tied in a loop. You can then put it anywhere on the setup which makes the ascent easy.

Interesting to see it in action. I have to agree though, it looks like “reinventing the wheel” for the sake of it. If you don’t get on with it, I would recommend a Stein fixed bollard over a POW. They do a slightly smaller one which can handle a fair sized piece, yet isn’t too heavy to cart about or rig to the tree. Remember what they say... “big chunks make big hunks”

You do know I don't live in Oslo and have family and friends living in a number of places in Norway? I didn't say everywhere outside Oslo is an oil field bubble. There you go again twisting my words. I said you represent your little oil field bubble and relate that to the rest of Norway. I don't know why people interact with you. I have better things to do than argue anymore over the internet. You seem to enjoy it, so crack on. You will obviously go away, smug, thinking you have won an argument with a stranger over the internet. When in reality, you haven't won jack shit. I just can't be arsed anymore.
-
Whereas, you represent your little oil field bubble and a small town in the Weat Coast as the entire Norway. Pot and kettle mate.

You do have to wear them in restaurants when you are not seated. What part of that is difficult to comprehend? Afaik my story hasn’t changed. Ever tried to eat wearing a mask? It’s tricky, so I am told.
-
@trigger_andy I am sure you just like to be argumentative for the sake of it. I have briefly reread through your posts. The only ? I see is the question about Rogaland. No idea. Never been there or heard of it. The second question mark is you talking about 19 guys on a chopper and guess what? It isn’t my place to suggest measures for the UK. If you only quote part of something I type, that is your choice. Regarding masks in restaurants - You don't have to wear them at your tables but in the public areas, you have to. But you could only quote half of what I actually wrote if it makes you feel better. As for the last bit you wrote. I have a had a hard day and your words are like a record spinning around. It doesn’t matter what I respond with as you will pull them apart and try and twist things. Unless of course I agree with you.

Andy, I don’t live in Uk and haven’t been back their for over a year and a half. I believe the measures the UK have in place are pretty harsh, but you keep painting the picture that Norway ‘does this’ and ‘does that’ etc. I am just trying to give a balance to the argument. I have been snowboarding quite a bit recently and not just Oslo. I will be in Hemsedal and Geilo for the week, next week. They are operating on reduced numbers. You have to wear a mask when in indoor areas. Just to take a pee you need one. Restaurants, granted you don’t wear a mask but if you get up and leave the table you need to wear one. Public transport, shopping centres etc, masks are required if you can’t keep a distance. The three cities you mentioned are considered major in Norway. They are not far off, in terms of population than small town I grew up in. All three added together are only 60 odd thousand more than Croydon. I don’t believe the Norway model is applicable to the UK for the main reason and that is the people. If the measures were relaxed too many people would take the piss.
