I wasn’t trying to help prove your point. I was trying to illustrate that the UK can’t really be compared to Norway. Due to density of the population and the actual size of the centres of population. What works here wouldn’t necessarily work in an over populated UK.
  2. You been on the Sherry ?
  3. I often tie into thinner. But then again that is certain species that I know can handle it. Wrist thickness is a good guideline for beginners who have little to zero experience of climbing or the integrity of the timber they are (sometimes) trusting their life with.
  4. But was that 5 days a week or the occasional day?
  5. See that smiley face on the post... a bit like this one It generally means the comment was tongue in cheek.
  6. Please do.

@trigger_andy That’s fair enough Andy, Stavanger is not Oslo. But you know that Some in Oslo are protesting against the restrictions, closed gyms etc ? Even NRK have been doing articles about the Norwegian Lockdown and it being the toughest of times since WWII. Another NRK article. Koronakommisjonen holder forklaringene hemmelig WWW.NRK.NO Regjeringsmedlemmer og helsetopper har nå forklart seg for regjeringens Koronakommisjon... So the picture you are painting isn’t entirely correct. Yes it is less than the UK but it isn’t all business as usual. You know they closed the Vinmonopolet and it lasted 3 days? Basically the government loosing money was enough to reopen it, plus the complaints from the people ‘who needed wine and spirits’. Yet the gyms are closed, youth training and clubs have only just resumed as off today and adult training is not yet going ahead. You can get pissed but you can’t go to a fitness centre or sports club. So again the picture you are trying to paint maybe true for the area you work but certainly not for the Norwegian Capital.
  8. Couple of pics from the last week or so. Elm, dead wood cut back from building. Silver Birch dismantle.
  9. So are you estimating the tree to be 40+ m in height? Nice work.
  10. Probably with a ground guy, truck and chipper.
  11. But are they able to get it 5-6 days a week and stay busy all year round at those rates? I was a busy bee before I moved to Norway. I charged 180 a day. 20 quid extra for rigging kit. Often got more. Some days 300 plus for crane work. But I wouldn’t say that was my day rate. This was nearly 3.5 years ago and in London and SE Kent area.
  12. The box says 500i. Maybe it is false advertising.

    Covid-19

Ski resorts in Norway are open but limited. Mask wearing is required inside restaurants and inside public areas like shops. There are restrictions in Norway but not as strict as in the Uk. Yesterday in Norway.
  14. They do that in some parts of Oslo. Poor sods in a mewp with a hedge trimmer. They are Lime trees though and not Planes.
  15. Andy, the leccy cars are cheaper in Norway. I have been doing a fair bit of research into it as Oslo is fazing out diesel into the city centre. At least the Tesla’s I have we looking at are cheaper.
  16. I use a tracked 280 regularly. I have a deal going with one of the guys I work with who has one. We collaborate a lot on jobs, he uses my ST8 if needed and I take his 280 when needed. I reckon the ST8 outchips it tbh. But they are both very productive machines. His ones into its own as he has two winches in it. Front and back. We fell a lot and winch to the hopper. Great for hung up trees. Cut the end off and just rip it out. The ST8 seems to drag in quicker once you are at the rollers. It could just be the 280 needs to have the feed rollers touching up mind.
  17. Well I messaged Kevin Bingham on the TH and he said the RRPro sometimes needs a bit of 3in1 type oil to lubricate the Bird. Gave it a squirt last night and the RR runs flawlessly again.
  18. Hello mate. They are both great. It isn’t so much which I like best. For me the choice is what job I have to do. Sticky pine and spruce, I use the bdb because it works well on the bits of tachyon I have that I don’t mind getting covered in sap. Large prunes I use a 60 metre rope. I run the rope runners on those. Cougar Orange and Samson Voyager. I have just got some Courant Squir but I am saving that till the weather is nicer. One thing I have noticed, the RRP is recently the bird is slacking a bit. Sometimes it doesn’t bite and engage. Could be a bit disconcerting if you were not expecting it. I have been running the top bollard fully open and the weather has been pretty cold. Minus 14 c this morning on the way to work. I did tighten the bollard today and it worked better but not as smooth in descent. Who knows? It might just need a wash or the spring had gone or just the cold weather.
  19. I have a RRP which I use daily. Lovely devise to use.
  20. A video I made quite a few years ago. The BDB is the same principle just a few of the bits look slightly different in the newer versions.
  21. How much did you charge?
  22. For a start your bridge would snap and/or the other line (secondary anchor). A millisecond before that, your legs would slap together so hard your testicles would be like fried eggs. Then you will fall.
  23. Ank, how long have you been climbing and how long has the person who said you can’t use it been climbing? What are they suggesting for a acceptable solution to the problem?
  24. That was the cut itself. The wood above was considerably sound. There was a bit of reactionary growth or something on the bark. Just didn’t look right so I took the flip line off. I sort of heard a pop, (maybe I felt it) and then felt my feet started moving a bit. The bottom of the cut, split a bit IIRC but I only snapped a pic of the cut and not the picked piece. The whole tree wasn’t in the best condition.
