  1. Cheers Matt. The used one was a bit of a slag...
  2. Picked up 50metres of New England Tachyon also at the show. Finished the splice off this morning. Now to sort an older but of Tachyon which had a bit of an accident.
  3. Got back from the arb show today and spliced up a couple of dead eyes out of 19mm db for rigging blocks. I was having a bit of trouble on the final bury and had to get a bit of help...
  4. Very nicely done Reg. Thanks you for taking the time to document it. I think I might go back and read it again to try and take a bit more in. Enjoy a pint on me, Ill have to pay you next time though mate...
  5. Rupe, just get a wireless dongle. Could be ok, depending on speed in your area.
  6. No, that is called good enterprise. If you can get that for a swedish log then go for it. A friend of mine does quite nicely out of them.
  7. So what is the opinion from your head then Kevin?
  8. Sorry mate. Managed 5 seconds and had a flashback to an early nineties rave.

    Parkrun

Sod that! I have been thinking of getting my running shoes on again but since I don't live that close to the Heath I don't really fancy tracking around smoggy roads. It is more just to help out the fitness along with the other training. Cheers Rupe, I used to use walkjogrun.net but maybe something new is in order.

    Parkrun

So Rupe, or anyone else. I have just checked the website and found there is a Parkrun about a mile from my house. I may even have a go myself Quick question though, did you train before for it? or just go along, have a crack and then there is your benchmark to beat? Not done any running seriously for a good few years. Was more of a plodder really but used to do about 5-6 miles round Blackheath and Greenwich park. As I said though, it was more of a plod to get the aerobic capacity up to help with the Muay Thai. Cheers.
  11. I was working in the woods once and the heavens opened. We cracked on then it started coming on ridiculously heavy. The climbing was finished but we still had a fair bit of clearing up to do. It got so heavy and then a bit of thunder so we grabbed the tools and ran about 300metres back to the truck. We were sat in the truck waiting it out when we heard what sounded like a bomb going off. A tree about 50 foot to the left had been struck by lightening and when it traveled down to the main union it was like a bomb going off. The whole woods and cab lit up like a camera flash. You have never seen 3 arbs leg it so quick from the truck. I half expected to hear the freak as the tree collapsed so I headed for a clearing. The tree never fell, we thought best to get out of there for the day but then we realised we had to get a tracked chipper out and an aluminium ladder back to the truck. As you could probably guess, nobody wanted to get the ladder...
  12. So David, always wondered this... Imagine the pull test on that tree say last week for eg. The tree comes over under the exerted force and we have a result not dissimilar to the pictures we have seen. Who is responsible? The arb is acting to assess the structural integrity of the tree. Is it just viewed as an accident?
  13. Tom, are you sure the topping causes the problems? IME trees of this species only have a shelf life of around 70 odd years. Once it gets to a size and considerable deadwood and dieback, then it is topped. That tree could have been knackered well before the topparding cycle begun. So you could say the diagnosing and recommendation of works gave the tree a few extra years. But at what cost? Well they found out the other day and it could have been a heck of a lot worse.

    880 on ebay

Personally 700 GBP plus Vodka and Tonic... I'd say not for a 2008 saw. I realise an 880 doesn't go out all that often but that is 5 years of opportunity to put a wrong mix in there.
  15. David, how did you get them? You been out for 10 minutes in your time machine again?
  16. Yes David, sorry should have made that clearer. One person commented they didn't think it was a poplar... Why would someone sign up to be able to post a comment and then show their ignorance by writing that. They are obviously in the know, unlike most other people.
  17. Glad no one was hurt. Quite a big tree there and very lucky there were no serious casualties. Must admit though, there are a few muppets in the comments.
  18. Looking great mate. I used to work for a firm with an RB44. I have found memories of punching the dash everytime I tried to get it into 2nd and 4th.
  19. I am not entirely sure but I seem to recall undertaking is illegal unless the person is travelling slower. So if the monkey in the middle lane is doing 60 on a dual carriageway. Crack on and undertake them. I did pass my test a long time ago and the memory isn't what it used to be...
  20. Nice vid Ben. I enjoyed that. Cheers.
  21. Matt, following on from your comment regarding the Knut. Here is a thread I started a couple of years ago regarding the issue you mentioned. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/34754-those-climb-knut.html
  22. Nice hat! Where can I get one?
  23. Holm Oak Rj. Probably removed about 1-1.5 metres all round. Sun was out, customer was really happy, I got paid. Nice day really. Before and after.
  24. Missed this thread first time round. Great work fellas. Thanks for bringing it back.
  25. Haha, I used to have one of those on my rubber coated Nokia about 5 years ago. MS 200t if I remember correctly.
