  1. milling machine parts and a tyre from an old raf/army flat bed or bomb carrying trailer
  2. Hows about doing a woodland management plan (paid for by the FC assuming the woodland is big enough) which will then cover you for felling operations (so you wont need a separate felling license) and supersede any tpo/ca issues as the FC will liase with the local T/O (being that they work in the offices next door to each other in your case) The management plan template will also guide you into what sort of content is expected. Just an idea
  3. Cheers for today, seemed to have gone well anyway
  4. does that mean the day rate goes down
  5. IainH on here had a mini master which is the small one but from memory he had gearbox issues that lead him to sell it.
  6. I have used a 3.5ton Tajfun on the back of a 56hp BCS, very well balanced set up for skidding, I think if you went for anything much bigger than this it would be getting a bit heavy on the back of the tractor for skidding out with. Seriously impressive set up with where you could winch yourself out of for dealing with steep terrain. Reverse drive is ace, even with the winch on its nice and quick to spin the seat and drive in facing the right way in narrow racks. Only issue I had was the cabs are tiny for getting in and out of when winching and you really want one if your doing a lot of ride flailing
  7. You want to keep an eye out for the farming and forestry improvement scheme which may well have a round of funding in the next few months. You will need to have a detailed business plan and accounts showing a need for increased efficiency. This grant is harder to access if your not a land owner or cant show a supply of timber or client list. There are bodies out there that can assist with this but success in the forestry sector on the last round was a very small % of the successful applications. keep a look on this page Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme (FFIS) and it may be worth calling the delivery team to ask about would be required as if you can get the paperwork in order for this you will be well placed for any other local schemes. Not sure but it may be worth speaking to the people running the ward forester project as im sure they would know of any local funding available
  8. The guy is a complete clown, I mean what the hell is the comment about being about an hour away by car about? can most species ecologically linked to an already fragmented habitat easily travel up to 60miles
  9. Ryland forestry in Warwickshire had in the past had said they would travel for saw mill quality Elm may be worth giving them a bell if you don't get sorted on here. They were certainly interested in running down into East Anglia for decent parcels even if it was only part loads that could be made up. Sorry only just read your last post, I will leave this contact info up incase anyone else has some to shift and this comes up on a search
  10. is the .410 single or mag fed as webley did a few with magazine under the bolt which are a bit rarer, I have done a lot of pigeon and rabbit shooting with a .410 webley, basic sold gun, never used a 9mm. Just bare in mind that .410 ammo is properly expensive! as mentioned make sure the back screw on the action is solid and hasn't been butchered by over tightening it as this is a real weakness on them
  11. get a reverse drive alpine with a flail mulcher on it on it a 65hp alpine will run a 1.5mtr mulcher that will deal with stuff upto about 3inches. Kilworth at Ashby hire them out with flails and tongs etc on them. V helpful guys, give them a ring.
  12. Thats awesome, one for Gregs santa list?
  13. hire a tracked pedestrian mulcher for the small stuff like a boxer or hire an alpine if the track in will take it with a mulcher and a set of hydrotongs, mulch the smaller then fell and skid out the other timber
  14. Other thing is stopping light fingered types from helping themselves one of the woodlands round here is targetted every winter however this time we had some trailcams out so someone is going to get a visit soon from the police
  15. Mikes idea is also a very good one, theres a lot to be said for improving the infastructure into the woodland as it will increase productivity and significantly reduce extraction costs longer term. Wish the owners of the site in my picture would get a digger in for a few days!
  16. I dont actually but to give you some idea of the site we were using it on last week, after a bit of learning! We are skidding 12ft larch saw logs to the landing where the alstor is parked in this photo as the terrain in here is the limit of what we would extract on, its steep and uneven with very limited access. The alstor only just fits up the paths to extract up and its a bit hairy on some of the turns with a drop off at the edge
  17. sorry about the delay i have pm'd you a link to the document i use which shows the colours in the wiring on the kohler magnum 18hp
  18. depending on the size timber and terrain if its small thinnings and your using it for firewood I can recommend a petrol winch a proper forestry one with fast haul in, I am using a mercian and it has a 500kg pull and 40meters of cable on the drum and its ideal for small stuff, you ratchet strap it to a tree and then it functions as a normal forestry winch pull the rope and it throtles up and pulls in. This combined with an Iron horse is cracking for small timber on very steep and boggy terrain.
  19. those part numbers are for the bigger felling spikes or "dogs" that fit a range of saws from 372-390 they cost peanuts and can be ordered from husqvarna from any husqvarna dealer, anywhere in the world as they are a husqvarna part.
  20. Matty I have had one of these for about 4 years ARC WELDER MMA WELDER 200 AMP INVERTOR DUAL VOLTAGE | eBay and done everything i need, the father in law who does a lot of welding on the farm has the same make but with the tig kit on it he makes trailers, repairs drawbars on agri kit and all sorts and he really rates his over his older oxford oil filled welders his is about 18months old and hes not had a problem welding with his yet
  21. Edited above post from the IPLhttp://www.husqvarna.com/ddoc/HUSI/HUSI2013_AAaa/HUSI2013_AAaa_390XP_2013-09.pdf
  22. surely any husky dealers can? just find the part number as I havent had a problem getting them for any of my other says outer spike 503 92 27-01 inner spike 537 01 72-01
  23. pm me your email as I think I have the pdf engine manual for the kohler as its the same engine as in mine, and I will email you it it if I can find it
  24. There will be a replacement according to my agronomist. I was told you had to purchase before end of Nov and had 12months from the end of this month
  25. I swapped back from aspen to 2stroke for a 4week period where I was doing a lot of work one the tools, I saved £148. I don't know on oil as I wont swap from bio due to risk of emulsifying the oil in the pump. I have been a devotee of aspen for the last 8year ish, however due to the attitude from the guys on the aspen stand at the confor show, and the stupidly high price I doubt I will go back to using it now. To put this in context its a new 550xp every three months in terms of savings!!! The chains you need to be using a lot, if you can pick up cheap rolls of Oregon on ebay its not to bad, I bought a 25ft loop of chain for my 346 and the tools for £100 so its not bad, if you buy it at list price you need to be going through some to make it worthwhile.
