  1. Not sure I would be planting ash if you want it there in 20yrs, 16acres = 6.6ha 6.6ha @ Y.C6 = 39.6tons per year 39.6t x 20yrs = 792tons total volume (this will be an over estimation as you will have failures and a lot of timber by year 20 will still be unusable as firewood) 792t / 16acres = 49.5t/acre
  2. I also use the howard laser lites but I use the corded ones so when I take them out I don't have to get them covered in crap in my pockets I can just leave them hanging round my neck
  3. Woodgrow at Derby are a dealers Garden Machinery :: Woodgrow Horticulture :: Woodgrow : The Complete Horticulture Company Great guys to deal with I'm sure they will help sort you out
  4. how much steep ground work do you plan to do with it, and do you have the work to keep a dedicated forwarder (mini or otherwise) busy year round?
  5. my understanding was the most recent appeal had been turned down again. I guess they will keep trying but as currently there is nothing you can legally use in hoppers I would probably hold of purchasing them until such time approval is re-issued
  6. I didn't think there was any chemical approved for squirrels this after this winter?
  7. Try Ron Greet Tractors, or Burden Bros in Kent
  8. Swapped from Oregon to sugi light pros and been very happy was going to try cannon but struggle to justify the cost above a sugi as they wear very well
  9. well its all bolted back together and seems the be running fine thankfully impressed with how well its withstood its little ordeal
  10. well my parts arrived at the dealer today so that's only 48hrs so I cant complain about that.
  11. Uttoxeter garden machinery, I think your right about husky shipping parts
  12. cheers for the offer local dealers sorting bits should be up and running again tomorrow
  13. chain break handle, front heated handle, clutch. Very lucky really
  14. at this point it was a bit 50/50 its amazing how much a broken clutch spring mess these autotune saws up. By the sounds of it im lucky not to break the crankcase where the chain break handle mounts as these are a very common failure point local dealer has had 3 break there
  15. wanna bet just needs a polish (yes it still runs fine) shes a week 43 2011 machine
  16. 560xpg all the way unless your doing a lot of first thinnings and brashing, I run 13" and 18" sugi hara lightweight pro bars on mine with an 8pin sprocket and its the best saw I have run, I very rarely take my 346 or 372 out at all now as I prefer the extra go of the 560 to the 346 and its not far behind the 372 unless your in big timber. My 560xpg got run over on site last week, took a ballasted and wheel weighted roof mount valmet right over it with both wheels, Its required a new front handle and chain break and a set of clutch springs and its basically good to go again. Not many saws would stand up to that level of hurt. I managed to keep using it for a couple of hours afterwards until the clutch spring gave up.
  17. you've still got the spark arrestor in the exhaust?
  18. Google "forestry commission gorge trials" it should bring up lots of the small scale kit the fc evaluated for steep terrain broadleaved thinnings
  19. Whats the other side of the top? I only ask as the amount of people that try and extract timber out the most difficult route rather than just asking their neighbours if they can cross their land? what sort of volumes are you looking at, as sometimes if its just for personal use it may be just cheaper to buy something in than spending on the kit/infrastructure for a small volume of firewood.
  20. Yep out on first light after flighting geese, cant wait
  21. what ground are you putting the Japanese red cedar on, I have heard good things about it and see good trail data but I thought it was a bit fussy on site selection? would be tempted to start putting a bit in mixes if it will tolerate damper conditions, I have been putting Doug fir and Norway spruce back into mixes shame to loose larch as it grows so well round here, but I think its days are numbered round here
  22. Been to a big tourist location near home today, two sites in close proximity to it are having larch dropped due to phytophthora infection as well as significant areas of rhodie being cleared due being infected and as a precaution within a few mile radius, and yet at this site which has had known infections in the past, I noted at least 5 fairly significant areas of rhodie showing signs of phytophthora in areas open to the public to pass through or within 6inches of bushes that are dying off. I give up, we steam clean saws, disinfect footwear, bag all work clothes when we leave the site for the nights in an effort to prevent the spread and its just a total waste of time Publicly open areas are going to be the down fall of all efforts trying to combat the spread of this disease. I am going to be contacting FERA about the locations I have noted today, but despite the money being thrown at this disease its a complete and utter waste of time and spread seems to be accelerating and not slowing.
  23. I haven't ever been that impressed with the hudsons build quality, but it would be good to see them side by side. I appreciate that woodmizer are selling these for more here than the us versions, but there is import duty and the issue of getting it CE marked as it wouldn't be just me running the mill so I need to ensure that kit is correctly tested and marked. Will just have to wait till apf for a look at them and see if I can do a deal with them.
  24. Has anyone seen one of these new Timbery M100 mills in the flesh yet? Being imported by Woodmizer uk, will deal with 600mm/2ft x 3mtr/10ft logs for less than £3k new. They look a nice unit for occasional milling, I will certainly be having a look at them at APF, as I have a lot of larch available locally that I can mill for cladding and fencing for my own use
