  1. Is anyone going to it? I am still undecided and its on Thursday with final bookings today. It just seems like similar themes to so many events over the last 2years not just RFS but most forestry and woodland events seem to be focusing on resilience, which is important but it does just seem to be a bit samey at every event
  2. Has it got the Orange inserts in the rear handle? Got a friend after one for a 42 special
  3. I use an IED solutions (Ed is a member on here as IED solutions) skidding frame with a 0.2cu mtr farma grab fitted
  4. grapple skidding tongs on alpines aren't hugely slower than a forwarding trailer especially on runs >350mtrs they are also a lot more manoeuvrable in early thinnings and if the cutting and timber is presented really well you can shift some material in a day. We skid larger timber and then process it on the rides or in thinnings we cut to 3mtrs and grab bundles. I would love a forwarding trailer but at the moment its far quicker to use the alpine to get the timber to where a bigger forwarding unit to get to and do the final extraction rather than trying to do it all with a smaller machine
  5. do you need to do the full FMO course, or do you just need a bit of paper that says you can use a winch?
  6. Nice day wandering round heard 980 people through the gates which isn't many at all. Had a good chat with lots of stall holders didn't buy anything but it was good to look round some of the kit that's out there. I didn't go on the off site visits as it turned out to just be a small forwarder and winch tractor to look at.
  7. Bahco ones Clark's sell are pretty good Tractor Tongs | Clark Forest : Logging Equipment
  8. that's a shame just realised that ive booked on the off site FC visits when the GiB talk is on so im going to miss it. Looking forward to the show though
  9. thanks for the comments. Its had some thought gone into it. here are some vids of it heather cutting and skidding a decent size scots pine upto the track. The winch is steady but as mentioned its mainly there for an aid for getting hangers down and self recovery. I would rather be carrying the winch compared to a block of weights on the sites Im on [ame] [/ame] [ame] [/ame]
  10. The tractors a bcs vithar 900rs it's 84hp the tongs and front winch mounting were designed and made by Ed at IED solutions who is on here. The tongs were designed specifically for the tractor and work exceptionally well. The slew on the arm took Ed some designing but it's ace in thinnings where you may not be able to get onto the hand cut stacks squarely. The front winch tray contains a 5t rated stepson hydraulic winch for self recovery if needed and pulling the odd stick about. I should add the tongs can be used for lifting logs as you can get the butt into the middle and then lift them off the ground. I will try and find a pic When it's dualed up the tractor will drive over stuff you will struggle to walk through. In that pic above the moss was to the top of my wellies, the tractor just drove round on top with no marks left.
  11. alpines are great time I suppose mine made an appearance on here, did someone mention floatation?!?
  12. I would give Mick at Rowanwood woodland products a bell, runs a nice woodmizer lt40 nationalforest.org | Wood Products and Services - Search
  13. apologies for the delays in sorting this, quick bump to those who I haven't been in touch with its looking like it will be mid June time. If your interested please can you pm me your email addresses so I can add you to any correspondence on dates etc Cheers Charlie
  14. Stem injection 2ml neat into each stem its 99% effective if timed just before the plants start to die back in autumn. Foliage spraying will require 3 doses per year for about 5 years
  15. We have actually increased the % take since using the planter on the tractor over spade planting, good operator on the machine makes a hell of a difference and it takes a big chunk of the hard work out the job. The biggest falling down point with large scale planting is the follow up, although with the new FC grants there is compulsory weed control for the first 5years (from memory) so that should stop neglect in newly planted woodlands.
  16. all done and dusted for the end of March, although this does help more than a little [ame] [/ame][ame] [/ame]

  19. Mine has done a lot of hours starting to show now on parts fatigue especially springs and brake bands
  20. which one, done two on mine, both the replacements have been a better quality of spring compared to the original especially the one next to the on/off switch
  21. I have also used Matt and Dan for contract chipping and would recommend them as well sound lads that really graft
  22. I use Fallows near Cheadle I think the last lot was 18 per ton
  23. I am looking at organising an instructor for a couple of days to come to Staffs to run the EFAW+F course, as mine and several other lads are coming up for renewal, I would like to get an indication of numbers of people who would be interested. The course would be run near Uttoxeter and would be for 1day. Once I have an idea on numbers I can get an accurate cost per person. I am trying to get the same instructor who came up several years ago as the feedback from LGPEddie and his guys, Logbarons team and the other contractors who attended was very favourable so I will try and sort getting him up again. Please reply here if interested and I will keep this post updated as I get ideas on costs and dates Regards Charlie
  24. Give Tilhill a ring see if you can sell it to them via their compound up Marchington
  25. Thanks for the pointers, I may try my local jd dealers then as they are only a few miles away
