There will be a press release closer to the date of change regarding changes in our dealership details and I will add no more than that. However, Dave at Arbtech will be staying faithful to GreenMech, and we are grateful for that as he and his staff are all round good eggs and thoroughly aminable people. Dave and the new people are in accord for a good working relationship in the future, and, rest assured will still be able to talk to his customers that he has built up a relatiobship with in the past.

Funny that, I'm after a flat top bench for personal use. To work off of grey fergie prefered, self drive otherwise. Anyone got a basket case or suitable thing for sale? Just found out that one I used to use years ago and was self built by family was abandoned in a yard by someone who borrowed it and moved on....

That is a couple of us for parallel and tapered. The tyre has grips on the bead - makes me think of tyres that spin on rim when under load when they shouldn't. Don't know that I've seen a comparable rim, but that may be the clue.

The original GM pens where ace! Parker pen style refill and barrel made of Beech, positive action made as a keeper! If you were lucky enough to get one, you'd agree. Swag resources are limited, but I have given some stuff away when it has been available. A load went out after the raffle and I dished out two hats and two travel mugs whilst on site yesterday too!

Yesterday, we had the second lot of Moulten Arb students visit GreenMech for a factory tour. A previous visit showed that they wished to spend more time out in the factory than have me waffle one about different types of chipper and shredder, so I fair rushed through the Power Point Presentation. They then got shown various aspects of the manufacture and assembly of woodchippers and the engineering and planning that goes into a production run. This was followed by a buffet lunch and a demonstration of what a couple of different woodchippers can do. All those present enjoyed the day and it was good to have a responsible and attentive group of trainee Arbs in the factory. Even the chaps in the factory enjoyed being able to show what their work goes into. Stuart, who works the lazer cutter, delayed the start of a new sheet of steel until the first group came through that workshop! Thanks to all those who attended for making our efforts worthwhile and if any other colleges wish to have a factory tour, please contact GreenMech direct or send me a pm.

Just a few more colours to add to the list. Even one with a Union Jack style paint job (vinyl actually) that is going to a contractor in Germany. I'll get better pictures of the very soon.

At GreenMech, we regularly fit an electric one to tracked machines and we have also fitted hydraulic units in the past. We commonly use a 9000lb unit. They are fitted more to aid recovery as a thermo switch is fitted so that the winch motor cannot be overheated from repetitive use. If you are half-way through a pull and the winch stops to cool down, that could be tricky!!!

While I believe in the "free market" economy, and indeed, use tinernet and the phone to get a deal for my house stuff - if I can get it at a manageable price locally, I will do. Support your local suppliers and they will be there to support you locally in your time of need. If everyone got their purchases from an online warehouse then the local suppliers will dwindle in number to the point where you will have to drive miles to their premises and they won't have it in stock when you beed it. Most suppliers will have a booking system for service and warranty work, based on a queuing system. Take your tool in and it will join a queue - be it 2 days or 2 weeks, if you are a loyal customer then I would warrant that they will try to prioritize the job to help you out. If they only get your business when you are desperate but there is no loyalty, where is their insentive when they do have more loyal and regular people. How would feel if you regularly see a competitor beat you to a job, only to have that customer ask you as the other chap cannot fit them in. Quite often, the income from warranty is a lot less than the income from routine workshop rates therefore the warehouse can sell it cheap because he hasn't got to work for less when it goes wrong! Plus no one grumbles at him about waiting times nor does he have to do paperwork or worry about claims heing thrown back!

I really don't consider that 30 mins of my time lost! Wonderful finds and thanks for sharing. I did a short stint in Vernon Barber's sawmill at Turnditch under his son, Gordon, back in the early 1980's, I also spent time with Keith and Sid at the Long Whatton Estate sawmill and they taught me a lot about their Robinson reciprocating mill etc. So much so, I helped the importer of the Taff tractors with his double reciprocater at the Stockton Gaylord festival some years ago and was able to assist in its first run with some handy tips on set up! Back in the depths of time, my family converted wood in their sawmills and I still have a set off conversion tables for coffin sets and sawn timber from the 1950'S. Much of the timber the cut went to prop up the coal mines of Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire upto the mid 1970's.

Mine had the original chassis boxed off, a Jag IRS fitted (420g), Rover V8 and BW35, narrowed I beam with discs, arches lowered to suite modern tyre sizes and widened rears. The original builder did it black and plum then later changed it to silver. It won a prize in the 70s and it is rare to have the original make in the log book too.

The green Scimitar went for £2,850! Mine is a 1938 Austin 16 which aint no dragster! But worth a tad more than the green thing. Hey Kev! Have you got a number for your neighbour with the yank barge? That 6.6litre V8 wouldn't be a bad lump to fit in mine! And yes, mine can tow a chipper!
